PRODUCT UPDATE<br />

<strong>Excit<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>New</strong> <strong>Products</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> <strong>Family</strong><br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce its <strong>in</strong>troduction <strong>in</strong> 2003, <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong><br />

rema<strong>in</strong>s <strong>the</strong> smallest 32-channel data<br />

acquisition system (DAS) <strong>in</strong> existence.<br />

The unequaled leader for <strong>in</strong>-dummy<br />

use, when used <strong>in</strong> comb<strong>in</strong>ation with <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> Vehicle Dock<strong>in</strong>g Station, <strong>the</strong><br />

system is also <strong>the</strong> world leader for<br />

on-vehicle DAS. Over 10,000 channels<br />

of <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> DAS have been sold to date.<br />

<strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> M-24 and <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> M-32<br />

From <strong>the</strong> beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g, a key application for<br />

<strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> was for use as an <strong>in</strong>-dummy<br />

DAS. DTS partnered with FTSS to create<br />

iDummy TM —a unique system that <strong>in</strong>tegrates<br />

<strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> <strong>in</strong>to virtually any crash test<br />

dummy type. FTSS has designed robust<br />

and easy to use <strong>in</strong>-dummy dock<strong>in</strong>g port and<br />

wir<strong>in</strong>g system that allows <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> to be<br />

easily moved from one dummy to ano<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

As part of <strong>the</strong> iCrash TM concept, <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong><br />

can be moved between iDummy TM , iWall TM ,<br />

iTrolley TM , iPole TM and iVehicle TM<br />

applications (see icrashtech.com).<br />

Introduc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> M-24<br />

To support still tighter applications, DTS<br />

developed a smaller, 24-channel version<br />

of <strong>the</strong> <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> for <strong>in</strong>tegration <strong>in</strong>to<br />

child dummies. The result is <strong>the</strong> new<br />

<strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> M-24. At 70% <strong>the</strong> size of a<br />

<strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> M-32, <strong>the</strong> <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> M-24 has<br />

<strong>the</strong> same sensor connection <strong>in</strong>terface as<br />

its 32-channel counterpart. With <strong>the</strong><br />

ability to <strong>in</strong>stall ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> M-24 or M-32<br />

modules <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> same dock<strong>in</strong>g port, users<br />

have <strong>the</strong> maximum <strong>in</strong> channel count<br />

flexibility. An iDummy TM could be<br />

configured for 24, 32, 48, 56, 64, 72,<br />

80, 88, 96 or more channels depend<strong>in</strong>g<br />

on <strong>the</strong> comb<strong>in</strong>ation of <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> M-24<br />

and <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> M-32 DAS modules.<br />

FTSS Q6 iDummy TM<br />

The first iDummies TM specifically designed<br />

for <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> M-24 are <strong>the</strong> Q3 and Q6.<br />

FTSS is releas<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>se dummies for<br />

production <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> second quarter of 2008.<br />

Introduc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong><br />

High-Bandwidth (HB)<br />

Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> past two years, customers<br />

have expressed <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> collect<strong>in</strong>g very<br />

high frequency data at <strong>the</strong> full 100 KHz<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g a high bandwidth anti-alias filter.<br />

DTS successfully modified <strong>the</strong> exist<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> DAS architecture to accomplish<br />

just this. The <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> HB DAS (High-<br />

Bandwidth) has an adjustable anti-alias<br />

filter with a maximum -3 dB po<strong>in</strong>t of<br />

45 KHz. Applications <strong>in</strong>clude blast<br />

test<strong>in</strong>g and airbag sound and pressure<br />

measurements. The <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> HB is<br />

identical to <strong>the</strong> standard <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> DAS<br />

<strong>in</strong> every o<strong>the</strong>r way and has been shipp<strong>in</strong>g<br />

to customers s<strong>in</strong>ce third quarter 2007.<br />

<strong>New</strong> <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> Module<br />

Dock<strong>in</strong>g Station<br />

In response to customer need for <strong>the</strong><br />

most compact sensor <strong>in</strong>terface to<br />

<strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> DAS modules, DTS has created<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> Module Dock<strong>in</strong>g Station<br />

(MDS). The <strong>TDAS</strong> <strong>G5</strong> MDS uses microD<br />

connectors: one 25-p<strong>in</strong> connector for<br />

Power/Control and four 51-p<strong>in</strong> sensor<br />

connectors (one for each eight channels).<br />

Applications to date <strong>in</strong>clude <strong>in</strong>stallations<br />

<strong>in</strong> aerospace test<strong>in</strong>g and race car chassis.<br />

GM Holden Celebrates 50 Years of Success<br />

GM Holden’s Prov<strong>in</strong>g Ground celebrates<br />

a tradition of education, test<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

technological development <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

automotive safety <strong>in</strong>dustry. The Prov<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Ground, located <strong>in</strong> Lang Lang, was<br />

Australia’s first automotive test<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

development complex and has<br />

been <strong>the</strong> test<strong>in</strong>g ground for<br />

every Holden vehicle released<br />

s<strong>in</strong>ce 1957.<br />

The facility has road systems<br />

designed for a variety of<br />

sealed and unsealed surfaces<br />

replicat<strong>in</strong>g real-world<br />

conditions. This <strong>in</strong>cludes a<br />

banked 4.7 meter high speed<br />

test track, a twist course,<br />

a noise road for noise and<br />

vibration development, a rattle<br />

and squeak track, test hills and<br />

a skid pan.<br />

A range of collision types can<br />

be reproduced at <strong>the</strong> barrier<br />

facility where vehicles are<br />

w<strong>in</strong>ched towards a 76-ton<br />

concrete barrier at speeds of up to<br />

90 km per hour. Over 44 kms of road<br />

systems are <strong>in</strong>tertw<strong>in</strong>ed throughout<br />

<strong>the</strong> landscape specifically designed for<br />

general durability test<strong>in</strong>g as well as<br />

performance and high speed test<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

The Prov<strong>in</strong>g Ground also houses a<br />

safety test lab which is home to over<br />

550 channels of <strong>TDAS</strong> equipment<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g state of <strong>the</strong> art airbag test<br />

and development capabilities. The<br />

DTS partnership with Holden is also<br />

supported by a branch office<br />

<strong>in</strong> Sydney. This location<br />
