Independent Consultant, National Vice President
Theresa Marsh Nation; Toledo, OH
“I didn’t think it would really happen,” were the first words out of my mouth
when I realized that I was a new National Vice President with Arbonne. I had
an immediate flashback to the very first time I read an Eye on Arbonne story of
someone who had promoted to this level. It was September 2004 when I began
“processing” the idea of starting an Arbonne business. I remember looking at
the story and thinking it must take someone really talented and lucky to get to
that level. I could not even picture my face on one of the covers, but in the back
of my mind I wondered if it could be done.
I heard about Arbonne from my friend, ENVP Karyl Molchan. She had just
attended a Presentation by ENVPs Lisa Voorhies and Deanna Osborn and had
an Awaken Sea Salt scrub sitting by her sink. I tried it and thought it was wonderful.
Later that week, I got a call from Karyl asking me to host a Presentation
for her. I was amazed to hear she actually wanted to start a business with a company
that no one had ever heard of, much less pronounce correctly! But when
Karyl offered me a Sea Salt Scrub as a host gift, I agreed. I laugh when I look
back at the Presentation because ENVP Dana Korn and Karyl only brought a
Sea Salt Scrub and a PhytoProlief Natural Balancing Cream with them that
night. But the information we got, and those two products started me on an
unforgettable path.
I did not jump in right away; however, because I was one of those people who
processes things for a long time, I watched Karyl do this Arbonne thing for seven
long months just to see if she would quit. But Karyl had the Arbonne vision and
there was no stopping her, and definitely no mention of the “q-word.” Since I
am a skeptic by nature, I also had to try the products and make sure they were
indeed “different.” They impressed me because they were effective, required
explanation and the information supported what I already believed was true
about the products.
I needed to believe Arbonne was a company worth investing my time and energy
into. I also wanted to feel confident offering these products to improve the
way others look and feel before I got involved. I happily discovered the company
was honorable, operates on moral principles and people just like me were
succeeding in it. This was pleasant to learn. I believed in the products, I believed
in the company — the only thing missing was my belief in me.
Starting a business was not intimidating, since my husband, Doug and I had
started and owned several, each with their share of expense, hours of hard work
and little payoff for the first three years. So, I did not expect to make a lot of
money right away. I had also worked as a research analyst for 10 years and
maxed out my pay. I could not make more money no matter how hard I
worked, nor how good my performance review was. To increase our
income, I would either have to give up my flexible job-share situation and
work 40-plus hours, or take on a second job. Since we also owned our
own business and had three small children at home, these options were
not realistic. I knew if I started an Arbonne business I would be making a
long-term commitment to it because that is the kind of person I am. I felt if
I told Karyl, “yes,” I would really have to do this thing. But would it be
worth the effort and the discomfort of doing things I had never done
before? With Doug’s encouragement and blessing, I finally said, “Why
not,” too!
Well, when you start a business, you want all of your friends to share in
the fun and scary new things you have to do, so I asked my good friend,
RVP Cheryl Naylor to join me in this Arbonne adventure. “One day we’ll
ride off into the sunset in our Mercedes-Benzes,” I told her, only dreaming
that it would actually happen. Amazingly, she agreed right away. Then, I
convinced my sister, RVP Lisa Scruggs to start an Arbonne business in
Colorado. I told her, “The products are great, the people of Colorado
need Arbonne and I’m going to get my Mercedes-Benz by my 40 th birthday!”
I was a new DM at the time and my birthday was seven months
away. Reluctantly, Lisa said, “Yes” too. Now I was really in deep and I
could not stop myself from talking about the products all the time. I had
what I now call the “Arbonne fever” and the only relief is selling Arbonne.
Perhaps you are one of those “long-processing” people. It is okay,
Arbonne will be worth your investigation and will hold up under your
scrutiny. But, do not process too long! The time is now and Arbonne is the
success strategy:
“
Give yourself permission to brazenly
believe in possibility, and then wholeheartedly
persevere to make it a reality.
company. All you have to do is review your options to know that it is worth
taking a chance. Arbonne’s PhytoProlief Natural Balancing Cream came
into my life at the perfect time and fortunately for me, Arbonne came right
along with it. The something different about Arbonne is its opportunity.
What other company can you start with a minimal, limited investment and
have the potential to double, triple or multiply exponentially that investment,
possibly even within the first year?
What other company has unique and effective products that you can feel
confident in offering someone to improve the way they feel on the inside
and look on the outside?
What other company lets you offer everyone you know the chance to buy
great products at a discount, so you do not feel like you are making a
profit on your friends and family?
What other opportunity do you have on the horizon that offers you the
ability to potentially change your lifestyle in a year? What were you doing
a year ago? If you keep doing it, ask yourself if you think you will be better
off next year?
Are you willing to take the chance that you will be stretched further than
you can ever imagine? That you will actually develop a new way of thinking?
Will you be able to live with your decision 10 years from now if you
decide not to do Arbonne today?
And finally, why not ? All of our excuses for not doing this serve some
purpose in our lives. I believe that they expose us in ways we do not want
to admit to ourselves. Either we are afraid to be successful, or we are afraid
to fail. We are afraid to do something that others might scoff at and we are
afraid that Arbonne will not work. Or, we are afraid that success only happens
to other people. That is where I was. I would still be there if it was not
for my husband, Doug. He has been 1,000 percent supportive of me and
has been my greatest cheerleader. He has believed that I could do things I
felt I could not. Doug, thank you for being my partner in life and in Arbonne!
I am so blessed to have the love and support from my family in this business.
All of our kids now speak fluent “Arbonnese!” To my newest builder and
appreciation of your friendship! To my little sis, RVP Lisa Scruggs, you continue
to amaze me with what you can make happen! Your faith is an inspiration
and you are my very best friend! To RVP Cheryl Naylor: I hope you
know that I would not even be doing this if you had said, “No” when I
excitement sometimes dwarfs my own!
To Executive Vice President Stian Mørck and Founder Petter Mørck: Thank you
for pursuing a vision worthy of your efforts. To Sr. VP Product Development &
Marketing, Candace Keefe: Thanks for producing “smart” products that people
To the Arbonne Home Office staff: Your positive attitude and helpfulness each
month are a real joy to those of us in the Field!
I now know that building an Arbonne business has nothing to do with luck or
talent, but it is built with perseverance, a strong commitment, a belief in something
you have not yet fully realized and the persistence to make it happen.
Arbonne makes you into a different person. Go ahead and seize the opportunity.
Give yourself the gift of Arbonne.
