Soccer update<br />

<strong>Wilmington</strong> Youth Soccer<br />

concluded its fall 1994 in town<br />

season with its awards presentation.<br />

All players received picture plaques<br />

with engraved name plates. Well<br />

done, everyone! WYSA would like<br />

to thank all the coaches, assistant<br />

coaches, concession workers and all<br />

other volunteers who helped to<br />

make this season so successful.<br />

Boys grade one<br />

Power & Glory vs.<br />

Hulkamaniacs<br />

Power & Glory forward Steve<br />

Stokes fired in a great goal. Ken<br />

Aruda and Matthew Faup played an<br />

awesome all around game, resulting<br />

in a 1-1 tic. Tony Karalckas turned<br />

in a great field game and Stephen<br />

Potcner blasted in the goal for the<br />

Hulkamaniacs.<br />

and tight nctminding by Brendan<br />

Gibson, Brian Wilson and Jonathan<br />

many scoring opportunities. Aldo<br />

the "D" with Chris Crosby and Zach<br />

Michaud doing a super job in net.<br />

Bushwackers vs<br />

Natural Disasters<br />

Bushwacker Jeff Youngclaus<br />

capped the season with a double<br />

score while Nick Guslin and David<br />

Maison provided awesome rushing.<br />

Nick and Michael Fogarty were<br />

superb as keepers. The Natural<br />

Disasters played an excellent game<br />

of team soccer.<br />

Boys grade two<br />

Buckeyes vs Mountaineers<br />

Sean Wilson and Pat Contrada<br />

each booted home a goal for the<br />

Buckeyes. Chris Murray, Joe<br />

Morcllo, Bill Shulics and John<br />

Mcnczcs covered the field with skill<br />

and hustle.<br />

The Mountaineers' offense was led<br />

by the rushing of Tim Ryan and<br />

Mike Flaherty, resulting in Mike<br />

Hurricanes vs Crusaders<br />

Storming on the offense, Bobby<br />

Sinopoli booted in two goals for the<br />

Hurricanes. Great play by<br />

teammates Russell Grant, Stephen<br />

Emery, Mike Scaduto and Justin<br />

LeFavc, as well as Mike and Charlie<br />

Broussard, Josh and Jeff Courtney,<br />

Jason Axelson, Jared Wright and<br />

Eric DiFava ended the season on a<br />

high note.<br />

The Crusaders answered with<br />

scored by Eric Ollila and Chris<br />

Scarlcs, supported by the hustle of<br />

Brian Bolgcr and Kyle Abcll. Billy<br />

Papageorgio did a super job in net<br />

behind the tough defense of Brad<br />

Hodgson. Coaches Ron and Mike<br />

thank the entire team for all their<br />

hard work this season.<br />

Boys grades 3 and 4<br />

Buccaneers vs Raiders<br />

The Buccaneers ended the fall<br />

season with a fine team effort, with<br />

Joe Caira, Corey Maison, Jon<br />

Bradbury and Dan Shibila sharing<br />

the spotlight. Michael Hiltz was<br />

dynamite as he scored twice for the<br />

Raiders. Travcrs Peterson and Peter<br />

Browncll showed off some excellent<br />

passing skills. Charlie Lojck and<br />

John Broussard combined toplay<br />

flawless defense. Anthony Azevedo,<br />

in goal, stopped all that came his<br />

way.<br />

Vikings vs 49ers<br />

Stone wall defense by Vikings<br />

Greg Phillips and Doug Tranghese<br />

kept the pressure in the offensive<br />

zone, with many great passes in<br />

front of the 49ers goal being turned<br />

away. Greg Phillips kicked in a goal<br />

off an indirect kick to tie the season<br />

finale.<br />

Forty-niner forwards Andrew<br />

Giamberardino, Mike McPherson<br />

and Jared Wentzell pressed relent-<br />

lessly, and Adam McCauley took<br />

that advantage to score. Chris<br />

Paul Maison scored the lone<br />

Dolphin goal in this tie game. A<br />

great effort was put forth by the<br />

team, particularly Ryan Parsons,<br />

Bill Sinopoli, Dan Cwickowski and<br />

Ryan Jeannctte, to close out a fine<br />

season. The Seahawks played good<br />

team soccer, scoring one goal, to<br />

hold the game to a 1-1 lie.<br />

Girls grades 2 and 3<br />

Rubies vs Pearls<br />

Rubies forward, Dawn DeRose,<br />

booted in a beauty. She also played<br />

superbly in net, with support from<br />

Sheila Patterson, Nicole Meixlcr<br />

and Caitlin Foley. Teamwork and<br />

passing were the name of the game<br />

for the Pearls, with Teresa<br />

Desimoncand Deborah Lyons<br />

showing just how it's done.<br />

Gorgeous goals by Kara Bruce<br />

(two), Andrea Alhanassiou (two)<br />

and Michelle Rappoli resulted from<br />

these opportunities. Brittany Walsh<br />

was simply outstanding in net.<br />

Diamonds vs Sapphires<br />

The Diamonds defense was led by<br />

the tough play of Meghan Flynn and<br />

Jennifer Stone and Krystina Smith.<br />

Lighting up the scoreboard were<br />

Melissa Marques, Jordan Lawlcr<br />

and Sarah Cheek (two).<br />

The Sapphires forward attacks<br />

were led by Celine DeMaggio,<br />

Jocclyn Newhouse, Kristina DaSilva<br />

and Sarah Jackson. Excellent<br />

defensive play was exhibited by<br />

Jackie Ridcout scored the only<br />

Emeralds goal in this close game.<br />

posting a shutout second half as<br />

in this closing game of ihe fall<br />

work. The Knicks ended the season<br />

with a good game, demonstrating<br />

Trailblazers vs Bulls<br />

The Trailblazers came out with<br />

fire in their eyes and power in their<br />

feet. Using individual skill and<br />

taking advantage of teamwork, they<br />

put on a scoring blitz with John<br />

Jamerson (2), Eric Meixler,<br />

Payrick Brassil (3), Molly Pidgeon<br />

and Christine Brown lighting the<br />

scoreboard. Jason Mancnt was<br />

superb. The Bulls had a super<br />

season and played an excellent<br />

game.<br />

Lakers vs Nuggets<br />

Katie Catanzano and Kelly<br />

Arsenault led the Lakers offensive<br />

attack, scoring a total of four goals.<br />

Andrew Pctrillo, Suzanne Bcrghaus<br />

and Jason Hasscy anchored the<br />

defense, with Matt Marchesi playing<br />

an unbeatable game in net. The<br />

Nuggets repsonded with enthusiasm<br />

and returned the pressure. Laura<br />
