Solids at low temperatures
We shall focus on the specific heat of the various types of
solids that we have seen the Part 1 of these lectures on
Statistical Mechanics. For cooling techniques, the other
important property is the thermal conductivity.
The following types of solid shows distinctive behaviours in
specific heat at low temperatures:
- insulators
- metals
- superconductivity metals
- magnetic materials
