Session 9: Roundtable: Labour Relations
(By invitation only)
This session is for senior transit management who are
involved in labour relations and negotiations. This
year our guest speakers from OC Transpo will present
on the topic “Getting Along after the Strike” and will
discuss the steps taken by OC Transpo and the City of
Ottawa to create a smooth transition back to work
following a lengthy separation, a long wait for the
arbitrator’s decision and bargaining that happened in
the media as well as at the negotiating table. Following
the presentation and discussion of strategies that
worked and those that didn’t, there will be a roundtable
discussion facilitated by Sue Connor, Chair of
the Human Resources Committee.

Session 10: Sustainability through Transportation
Demand Management
Transportation Demand Management is an increasingly
important tool that transit systems and communities
alike can use to achieve their sustainability goals.
Representatives from municipalities across Canada will
speak on initiatives that they have taken locally.

Session 11: New Bus Propulsion Technology
Bus propulsion technology continues to evolve as
technology matures and new ones appear. Representatives
from the Société de transport de Montréal
(STM) will speak on their in-depth study on hybrid
buses, followed by a presentation on the recently
completed CUTA report on hybrid technology.
Finally, BC Transit will share their experience on the
development and implementation of the first
Hydrogen Fuel Cell bus demonstration fleet, to be
showcased at the 2010 Olympics.

CUTA’s National Transit Employee Recognition Awards
and Scholorship Presentations recognize the outstanding
achievements of employees, volunteers and industry
advocates, and will grant a Lifetime Achievement Award
to the 2009 CUTA Hall of Fame inductees.
