From the Principal
2008 was a strong year for the scots college,
best characterised by the spirit of our fine young
men and the willingness of our community to
respond positively to our call to renew and
refocus our honourable traditions and culture.
We know that every scots boy is capable of
success and should strive to achieve to the
best of his ability in all facets of college life.
We seek to imbue all of our young men with
habits of mind, values, attitudes and core
competencies. We are confident these will
stand them in good stead for a world which
demands that they respond to challenges and
adventures with creativity, curiosity, strong
leadership and a thorough understanding of how
to achieve excellence by serving others in a team
environment. With this ambitious vision in mind,
we are working to nurture a common culture of
high expectations and to provide even better
opportunities, support and facilities for each of
our students.
the achievements of our diverse range of
students in 2008 clearly demonstrate that those
who aspire and who are diligent in applying
consistent effort and hard work along the way are
best placed to realise excellence and to achieve
their goals. those students who are members
of our Pipes and Drums Band and snowsports
teams – both national champions in 2008 –
2
have already demonstrated this. For others, the
journey towards mastery of their field has already
begun. With inspiration, encouragement and
determination, they will be more likely to develop
this standard of proficiency in their chosen field
in later life. We hope that the disciplined and
caring learning environment of the college will
prove to have been the grounding for this.
our academic, coaching and support staff have
worked well together to manage the demands
throughout our year of transition and significant
development in curriculum, the arts and in
sport. through their hard work, these incredible
members of our community add to the strength
of their individual programs and to the success
of the scots college and its many programs.
they deserve our thanks and praise for their
dedication to the betterment of the college and
their generosity as role models to the boys.
and so I commend to you 2008, a year of
