PIPes anD DRUMs<br />
the Band’s performance at the Royal nova scotia<br />
International tattoo was certainly one of the<br />
highlights. By the end of the tattoo invitations<br />
had been received to a number of different tattoos<br />
around the world, including Holland, switzerland,<br />
Usa, and Germany.<br />
Highland Games, parades and events attended:<br />
annual commonwealth Day Parade<br />
Highland Gathering, Bundanoon<br />
schools anzac Day service, Hyde Park<br />
old Boys anzac Day Memorial service<br />
Rose Bay Rsl Memorial service<br />
Remembrance Day Parade<br />
the Royal nova scotia International tattoo<br />
Pozieres Parade<br />
Victory in the Pacific service, Martin Place<br />
combined scottish societies solo competition<br />
Battle of australia service and armistice Day<br />
the leader of the Pipes and Drums for the last<br />
11 years, Mr Ray lee, was awarded an oaM for<br />
services to education and to the community in the<br />
Queen’s Birthday Honours list.<br />
to cap off a wonderful year the Pipes and Drums<br />
‘a’ Band won the australian championships in the<br />
Juvenile Pipes Band and Juvenile Drum corps as<br />
well as the australian championship in the Grade<br />
4 Pipes Band.<br />
cHaRItaBle WoRKs<br />
Bruce House ran a cadbury Fundraising Day<br />
to support their new charity Redkite, which<br />
supports children and young people and their<br />
families through cancer. their enthusiastic<br />
efforts raised $1600.<br />
armstrong House raised $1379 for the Royal<br />
Hospital for Wo<strong>men</strong>.<br />
Brandt House raised $1200 for the cancer<br />
council with a BBQ held in conjunction with the<br />
‘Biggest Morning tea’.<br />
the annual charity concert raised more than<br />
$7000 for the Royal Hospital and the sydney<br />
children’s Hospital. the guest speaker was<br />
world renowned neurosurgeon and old Boy of<br />
the college Dr charles teo.<br />
the 2008 Prefects achieved spectacular<br />
support from the college community for their<br />
World’s Greatest shave initiative. several brave<br />
Prefects and staff lost their locks for charity<br />
and raised over $14,700 for the leukaemia<br />
Foundation.<br />
the annual christmas Hamper appeal<br />
produced a record number of 101 hampers<br />
this year which were distributed by the<br />
Presbyterian church to families in need.<br />
<strong>The</strong> World’s Greatest Shave raised $14,700 for<br />
the Leukaemia Foundation.<br />
7
