Tin Glaze Ware History<br />

Invented in Basra, Iraq in the 8 th century for<br />

earthenware low fire ceramics<br />

Colors ranging from blues to greens, reds to<br />

browns, and yellow were made possible on a tinwhite<br />

background<br />

Within a century spread throughout Muslim<br />

empire as far west as Spain and Morocco<br />

With the fall of Muslim Spain the ceramicist's<br />

secrets spread from Malaga and Valencia to Italy<br />

where this technique became known as majolica
