The following report on <strong>the</strong> recent efforts for unity between <strong>the</strong> two families<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Orthodox Church is divided into two parts.<br />

The first part is a synopsis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Reports, Agreed Statements and<br />

Recommendations to <strong>the</strong> Churches, written by <strong>the</strong> delegates at <strong>the</strong>se meetings.<br />

It will provide <strong>the</strong> reader with a basic understanding <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> conclusions <strong>of</strong><br />

each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> conversations.<br />

The second part is a full print <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial Communiques produced at each<br />

meeting, including a list <strong>of</strong> participants.<br />

The report covers <strong>the</strong> four un<strong>of</strong>ficial conversations (1964, 1967, 1970, 1971),<br />

<strong>the</strong> three meetings <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ''Joint Commission <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Theological Dialogue<br />

between <strong>the</strong> Orthodox Church and <strong>the</strong> Oriental Orthodox Churches'' (1985, 1989,<br />

1990), and two meetings <strong>of</strong> sub-committees (1987, 1990). The sources for <strong>the</strong>se<br />

communiques are listed in <strong>the</strong> table <strong>of</strong> contents.<br />

2. INTRODUCTION<br />

Since 451, at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Council</strong> <strong>of</strong> Chalcedon, <strong>the</strong>re has been a division within <strong>the</strong><br />

Orthopdox Church due to different Christological terminology. In recent times,<br />

members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chalcedonian and non-Chalcedonian Orthodox Churches have met<br />
