C LASS N OTES 1973 Reunion Year Carolyn “Sue” Palmer Jordan, Lyons, N.Y., says she, husband Bob, and four dogs moved back to New York state from North Carolina after her mother passed away. Sue is an insurance agent in Newark and staff writer for the Courier-Gazette. She is also a genealogist for the Foote Family Association of America. Bob and Sue are both firefighters, while Sue is also an EMT. Lora Outhouse Vazquez, Aurora, N.Y., says younger son Adam will transfer to Keuka this spring. She participated in Keuka’s College Major Fair in October. 1975 Amey Steere Morris, N. Smithfield, R.I., is a new grandmother. 1976 Arlene Wesley Cash, Fayetteville, Ark., is working with other members of the ALA (Afro-Latin Alliance) to put together a directory of past members. Julia MacDonald Staats, Belle Mead, N.J., is a fourth grade teacher at Amsterdam School in Hillsborough Township School District. She received the 2001-02 Teacher of the Year award from the school.The award is presented through the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program. 1977 Jackie Black Curtis, Pearl River, La., is a homeschool mom. 1978 Reunion Year Anne Hedges Young, Barre,Vt., is works for the Vermont Army National Guard as occupational health nurse, with the rank of major. She travels to Italy every six months for training,“an excellent opportunity,” she writes. 1980 Lori Cockey Peterson, Colorado Springs, Colo., is the director of Home Health, a portion of the business she started a year ago at Right At Home. She has five children: Leah, 24; Laura, 22; Derek, 14; Devin, 12; and Charity, 10. 1981 Danette Sullivan Davis, Auburn, N.Y., children’s librarian at Seymour Library in Auburn, was honored recently as the 2002 recipient of the Joan Cooke Youth Services Award.The award, given annually to one librarian in a five-county region, honors outstanding service to young people. Leigh Seigle Small, Fairport, N.Y., has advanced to a doctoral candidate with the goal of graduating in June 2003 with a Ph.D. in nursing. She is a grant recipient from the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners. 1982 Jackie Streiff, Baldwinsville, N.Y., was promoted to patient service manager in the PACU at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y. 1983 Reunion Year \\\ 1985 Barbara Bennett, Ballston Spa, N.Y., moved into a new home with Tammy Marshall ’87. Barbara has been promoted to assistant director of nursing at the Eddy Cohoes Rehabilitation Center, Cohoes, N.Y. Nancy Fletcher Eaton,Webster, N.Y., was featured on WOKR, (Channel 13), in Rochester for an Educator of the Week clip. Cindy Hale Welgoss, Fairfax Station, Va., is happily settled in Northern Virginia with husband Jeff and children Allison, 10 and Luke, 7. She is a stay-at-home mom and is active with volunteer projects at her childrens’ school (Trinity Christian), church (McLean Bible), and sports teams.They are planning a summer family mission trip through the Christian Medical and Dental Society with Jeff (a urogynecologist) and kids. She is looking forward to using her nursing skills there. 1987 Tammy Marshall, Ballston Spa, N.Y., recently moved into a house. She is a graphic designer for a local company in Saratoga Springs. She won first prize for her Gettysburg quilt, based on the three-day Civil War battle. KEUKA MAGAZINE 18 WINTER 2003 Gene McMillen, Seaford, Md., is an instructor of nursing at Wor-Wic Community College. 1988 Reunion Year Marcia Young Hudson, Canandaigua, N.Y., and husband John adopted three children last July: Harry, 3; Katherine, 5; and Katie, 6. 1990 Julie Mirabito Wicker, Pflugerville,Texas, recently added her seven-year-old nephew to her family.They are “expecting” their first child this December/January from China. They will travel to China in spring 2003 to bring her home. Michael Canny, Macedon, N.Y., is a principal at the Red Jacket Central School District middle school. Keuka women were out in style as they celebrated with bride Alicia McMillon ’00 on July 20, 2002. Flower girl was Brittany Roberson. 1991 Richard Garcia, Syracuse, N.Y., started a new job as a carrier-accountant. He and wife Joanne celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary (they met at Keuka) last November, and daughters Kayla, age 12, and Tia, age 5, are doing wonderful. 1992 Kyle Bower, Penn Yan, N.Y., has been named principal of Hammondsport Primary School and the Curtiss School. Teri Lashway Ratcliffe,Oswego,N.Y., earned a master’s degree in human services/counseling at Oswego State University last August.
C LASS N OTES Mark Spadafore, Liverpool, N.Y., is employed by the Central New York Labor Federation, AFL-CIO. 1993 Reunion Year Jennifer Murray Cughan, Bloomsberg, Pa., is a supports coordinator (case worker) at County MH/MR. Michael Dowd, Geneva, N.Y., was elected the West Street Elementary School (Geneva) P.T.A. president for the 2002-03 school year. He is a member of the board of directors of Health Quest Foundation, which funds the Council of Alcoholism of the Finger Lakes. He is also a Community Connections team leader at the Geneva Wegmans store. Patricia Schmitz Low, Hamburg, N.Y., and husband Gardner own and run a garden center called Cooper Ridge Gardens in the Hamburg area. She continues to work parttime as a case manager for an assisted living facility. Heather Meyer Tellier, Scotch Plains, N.J., says she has moved nine times over the past five years, and has had many challenging and rewarding teaching jobs. She and husband Aaron, who is a marketing manager for Harrisdirect, have two children, Faith and Claire. She has taken a break from teaching full-time to be a mom. She continues to work part-time as a private learning consultant. They hope to make a final move to New England sometime soon. She looks forward to next summer’s reunion and catching up with everyone from the Class of 1993. Annette Paro Waterson, LaFargeville, N.Y., worked in the Watertown area as an occupational therapist until June 2001 when she became a stay-at-home mom. She has recently begun homeschooling her children for religious reasons. Michelle Ropeter, Camden, Del., is the director of social services at Capitol Nursing Home in Dover, Del. She recently received her LCSW-C license. Rebecca McIntosh Booker, Round Lake Beach, Ill., and husband Dan bought a house last year. Jennifer Lonneville Crane, Clifton Springs, N.Y., moved into a new home in January 2002. Jennifer Miller, Hampton,Va., graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., last August with a master’s degree in community health with a concentration in health care management. She has been working as an occupational therapist at Riverside Rehabilitation Institute since 1997 with a move to the outpatient clinic in 2001. Former Faculty Member Stimson Dies S ister Miriam M. Stimson, professor and chair of chemistry at Keuka from 1969 to 1978 and professor emerita of chemistry at Siena Heights University, died June 15, 2002, in Adrian, Mich. Stimson received a B.S. from St. Joseph College (now Siena Heights University) in 1936 and earned master’s (1939) and doctoral (1948) degrees in physical organic chemistry from the Institutum Divi Thomae in Cincinnati. She taught at Siena Heights College (now University) from 1939 to 1969, establishing a research program that involved undergraduate students and 1994 1995 1996 chairing the science program during many of those years. After her nine-year tenure at Keuka, Stimson returned to Siena Heights as director of the graduate program, a post she held until retiring in 1991. Stimson’s research on the structure of nitrogenous heterocyclic compounds resulted in a series of publications during the 1940s and led her to develop the KBr disk method for taking the infrared spectra of solids. In retirement, she was frequently called upon by local industries for scientific consultation. She was an emeritus member of the American Chemical Society. Angela Morehouse Hughes, Fort Shaw, Mont., is a full-time mom to her two-yearold son, Quinn. She is a full-time student again in a MSN program at Gonzaga University, earning her FNP. She plans to work in Montana as a FNP in rural medicine. 1998 Reunion Year Laura Lindquist Balmer, Gillett, Pa., recently earned her master’s degree in nursing with certification as an adult nurse practitioner from Syracuse University. She received the “Nursing Scholarship Award” from the faculty. She is currently employed as a nurse practitioner with Associated Radiologists of the Finger Lakes and is working in radiation oncology at the Falck Cancer Center in Elmira, N.Y. Lisa French Lamberson, Painted Post, N.Y., is employed at Corning, Inc. 1999 Veronica Bedette, Hales Corners,Wisc., graduated from Quinnipiac University in May 2002. She is a pathologist assistant. Melynda Malone Kaufman, Hannibal, N.Y., began teaching special education 12:1:1 at Kenney Elementary School last September. Karen Darling Monforte, Endicott, N.Y., is a fourth grade teacher at Owego-Apalachin Schools in Owego, N.Y. Kelly Van Valkenburg, Frankfort, N.Y., graduated with a master of arts degree in organizational management from University of Phoenix in August.
