The direction of Line of <strong>Dance</strong> is different at different points of the floor and also depends on the<br />
style of dance.<br />
4.1 Line of dance in sequence dances<br />
Sequence dances are performed in ‘circle’, which in reality is hardly ever a true circle in the<br />
geometric sense. At popular dances, there may be a second circle running inside the first. When this<br />
happens, the convention is that faster dancers favour the inner circle.<br />
On a very small square dance floor the ‘circle’ may really be a circle and LOD is the direction<br />
anticlockwise around the circle. That is, the direction is continuously updated as you progress.<br />
On very small non-square rectangular floors the ‘circle’ may be an ellipse. However, on any<br />
reasonable size floor, the ‘circle’ tends to be a rectangle with rounded corners as shown below.<br />
This is the solution which wastes as little floor space as possible, thus fitting as many couples in the<br />
‘circle’ as possible.<br />
At any point on this ‘circle’ the Line of <strong>Dance</strong> is still the direction clockwise around the ‘circle’.<br />
That is, while travelling along the straight sections of the ‘circle’, line of dance stays constant and is<br />
