Amateur Band Receiver<br />
On the amateur bands ordinary A.M. signals are almost nonexistant<br />
these days. <strong>The</strong> place of A.M. has been taken by single sideband<br />
(S.S.B.) which offers several advantages oven A.M. in the context of<br />
amateur band communications. Before describing the circuit and<br />
operation of a receiver for reception of C.W. and S.S.B. on the 80<br />
Metre amateur band, some background information on S.S.B. will be<br />
given.<br />
It should perhaps be stressed that it is by no means essential to<br />
have an understanding of S.S.B. before commencing amateur band<br />
reception, but is extremely helpful to have at least a basic understanding<br />
of S.S.B. <strong>The</strong>re is much more to tuning in an S.S.B. signal than<br />
there is to tuning to an A.M. one. Unless the tuning is carried out<br />
accurately, the audio signal that is produced will be completely<br />
uncomprehendable. Without even a basic understanding of S.S.B.<br />
there is a certain hit and miss aspect of amateur bands reception.<br />
Reading the following section should help to remove this aspect of<br />
