THE HARTFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT CHOICE PROCESS<br />

Before you start:<br />

1. Have a conversation with your child<br />

about their interests and talents<br />

2. Go to www.smartchoices.trincoll.edu<br />

to examine the school options within<br />

your Home Zone<br />

3. Get to know your school: attend a School<br />

Fair, School Open Houses, “Get on the Bus”<br />

high school tour, or Community Technical<br />

Assistance session<br />

4. Have your child’s Powerschool Student ID<br />

number handy<br />

5. Start application at www.hartfordschools.org<br />

To complete the application, parents will need<br />

the PowerSchool ID number of child and date of<br />

birth for each student.<br />

Eligibility for Transportation<br />

We are committed to making transportation services<br />

ecient and cost eective for <strong>Hartford</strong> families. To<br />

focus resources w<strong>here</strong> they are needed most,<br />

students living near to their schools may not be<br />

eligible for bussing.<br />

The guidelines to qualify for transportation are:<br />

Grade K-1: Lives 0.5 miles or more from school<br />

Grades 2-5: Lives 1.0 miles or more from school<br />

Grades 6-8: Lives 1.5 miles or more from school<br />

Grades 9-12: Lives 2.0 miles or more from school<br />
