PENNIES FROM HEAVEN
Traces of Grace
About 2 years ago, someone handed me a book, ‘Tattoos on the Heart’ and said that reading it had changed
their life. ‘Sure,’ I thought, that’s what everybody says, when they hand me another book to read. I often just
put the book on the stacks of other books that I am hoping someday will have time to read. But then I noticed
the author, Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ and realize, ‘Hey, I know this guy!’ And so I read the book. I can see now why
this person gave me the book. It is indeed life-changing.
Fr. Greg Boyle is coming to join us for an evening on Saturday, September 22. We will gather in Knight Hall at
7pm for an evening of witnessing to the power of grace in the lives of those who are often considered too far
gone to have any hope of change or redemption. Fr. Greg has worked most of his many years as a priest in
East LA with gangs in the midst of poverty, violence, and pain. Come and listen to his testimony as to how the
grace of God is working through the “Homeboy" and “Homegirl” ministries. If God can change hearts there,
perhaps he might be willing to do the same with the rest of us.
Oh, by the way, the book, ‘Tattoos on the Heart’ is available in the parish office this weekend and during the
week for the cost of the book. Stop by and fill your heart with grace. Bring a friend, bring your teenagers, bring
your significant other and join fellow parishioners for a grace-filled evening.

Sunday, October 7th will be "Pennies From
Heaven" Sunday. Please donate your pennies,
nickels, dimes, and dollars to this important major
event. All money raised from this event will
be used for several Respect Life organizations
within Orange County. In the next couple of
weeks leading up to "Pennies From Heaven," we
will be telling you more about these groups.
TOBY’S HOUSE is one of those groups.
TOBY’S HOUSE embraces pregnant women
in crisis by providing a safe and supportive home
for them and their young children. They promote
vocational and spiritual advancement through
counseling, education, prayer and a life-based
value system that empowers them to become
confident, contributing community members.
Each year TOBY’S HOUSE serves approximately
25-30 women and 30-35 babies and toddlers.
They receive housing, transportation assistance,
life skills training including job search, financial
management, nutrition, parenting and
healthy relationship education. TOBY’S
HOUSE exists to help women break free from
the bonds of chronic homelessness.

The Christian Service Office and Saint Vincent DePaul
would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to our
church community for your food and monetary donations.
We also thank the Knights of Columbus for
sponsoring the food drive. Because of the Knights
who gave their time and hard work many food items
as well as generous financial contributions were given
to Christian Service. This will help us to provide
much needed services for our clients in Dana Point
and Capistrano Beach.
With the sponsorship of Saint Vincent DePaul, we
operate a food pantry in Knight Hall which is open
three days a week. Thanks to our generous parish
and Second Harvest Food Bank, we are able to offer a
wide selection of foodstuffs to the community free of
charge.
The Christian Service Office also offers limited financial
assistance to help those who have fallen upon
hard times by sharing in the costs of necessities such
as utility bills, rent, medications, car repair and various
other needs.
