<strong>Tan</strong> <strong>Sri</strong> Dato’ <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Dr</strong> <strong>Zeti</strong> <strong>Akhtar</strong> <strong>Aziz</strong><br />
Governor, Bank Negara Malaysia<br />
<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Zeti</strong> <strong>Akhtar</strong> <strong>Aziz</strong> was appointed Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (<strong>The</strong> Central Bank of<br />
Malaysia) in May 2000. As the Governor, she has a key role in monetary policy formulation and<br />
implementation, and in ensuring the stability of the Malaysian financial system. <strong>In</strong> addition, she<br />
has overseen the successful transformation of the Malaysian financial system into one of the<br />
most developed and resilient financial systems amongst the emerging economies. <strong>In</strong> particular,<br />
she has been involved in leading the development of the Financial Sector Blueprint, which charts<br />
the direction of Malaysia‟s financial sector development over the next 10 years; spearheading<br />
the development of Islamic finance, domestically and globally; and participating in efforts to<br />
enhance the contribution of SMEs to the Malaysian economy. <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Zeti</strong> is also actively involved in<br />
shaping the future of financial cooperation in the Asian region, and has been an important voice<br />
for the emerging economies in the international financial fora.<br />
To strengthen regional integration, <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Zeti</strong> chaired the Executives' Meeting of East Asia-Pacific<br />
Central <strong>Banks</strong> (EMEAP) Taskforce on “Regional Cooperation among Central <strong>Banks</strong> in Asia” to<br />
draw up the blueprint for future financial cooperation in the region. She is also Co-chair of the<br />
Financial Stability Board's Regional Consultative Group for Asia, together with the Bank of<br />
Korea. <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Zeti</strong> is a member of the South East Asian Central <strong>Banks</strong> (SEACEN) Board of<br />
Governors and the Chairman of the SEACEN Board of Directors. She is also a member of the<br />
Bank for <strong>In</strong>ternational Settlements (BIS) Central Bank Governance Group since 2001, and is one<br />
of the founding members of the BIS Asian Consultative Council.<br />
<strong>In</strong> the area of Islamic finance, <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Zeti</strong> has been actively involved in its development, both in the<br />
domestic and international arena. <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Zeti</strong> served as the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB)<br />
Council Chairman for the 2007 term, and was also the Chairperson of the <strong>In</strong>ternational Islamic<br />
Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM) Governing Board until 2011. <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Zeti</strong> is currently the<br />
Chairperson of the IILM's Board Executive Committee. She plays a leading role in developing<br />
Malaysia as a centre for the origination, distribution and trading of sukuk under the Malaysia<br />
<strong>In</strong>ternational Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC) initiative. <strong>In</strong> 2002, <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Zeti</strong> led a team that launched<br />
the Malaysian Global Islamic Sukuk, the world‟s first Islamic sukuk to be issued by a sovereign<br />
country.<br />
<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Zeti</strong> had served as a member of the United Nations General Assembly Commission of<br />
Experts on Reform of the <strong>In</strong>ternational Monetary and Financial System, a high-level task force<br />
established to examine possible reform of the global financial system.<br />
<strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Zeti</strong> received her Bachelor of Economics (Honors) from the University of Malaya and her<br />
PhD from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr Mohammad Faiz Azmi<br />

Mr Mohammad Faiz Azmi is the Executive Chairman of PwC Malaysia and the Financial<br />
Services Leader for PwC SEAPEN Region (a SE Asia grouping of firms from Vietnam,<br />
Cambodia, Laos, Thailand to Malaysia). He was also the Global leader of PwC‟s Global Islamic<br />
Finance Team practice from 2007 to September 2012.<br />
Mr Faiz has over 26 years experience in the audit and business advisory services of financial<br />
institutions both in UK and Malaysia. He has also been involved in the audits of clients in the<br />
banking, healthcare, power and construction sectors.<br />
A subject matter expert on banking and Islamic finance topics, Faiz is often invited to speak at<br />
seminars and forums, both locally and abroad.<br />
Mr Faiz serves on the boards of several professional bodies. Among others, he is the Chairman<br />
of the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board, a Fellow of the <strong>In</strong>stitute of Chartered Accountants<br />
in England and Wales and Council Member of the Malaysian <strong>In</strong>stitute of Certified Public<br />
Accountants. <strong>In</strong> addition to being appointed by the Minister of Higher Education to the Hala Tuju<br />
3 Committee, Faiz also chairs the SSM XBRL forum.<br />
Faiz was educated in Malaysia and UK and read law at the University of Durham before being<br />
called to the English Bar.<br />

<strong>Tan</strong> <strong>Sri</strong> Dato’ <strong>Dr</strong> Mohd Munir Abdul Majid<br />
Chairman, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad<br />
<strong>Tan</strong> <strong>Sri</strong> <strong>Dr</strong> Munir Majid is Chairman of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad. He obtained a B.Sc<br />
(Econ) from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 1971 where he also<br />
obtained his Ph.D in <strong>In</strong>ternational Relations in 1978. He taught at the Department of international<br />
Relations in LSE from 1972-1975. He was research analyst for Daiwa Europe NV in London from<br />
1975-1978.<br />
<strong>Dr</strong> Munir joined the New Straits Times Press (NST) at the end of 1978 as leader writer and<br />
progressed to become Group Editor. During his time at the NST, he published numerous articles<br />
on national and international politics, and economics. He left NST in 1986 to become CEO of a<br />
small merchant bank, Pertanian Baring Sanwa (PBS), whose name he changed to Commerce<br />
<strong>In</strong>ternational Merchant Bankers (CIMB) which was then transformed into one of Malaysia‟s<br />
leading merchant banks. He was invited by the Government of Malaysia to establish and become<br />
the first and founding Executive Chairman of the Securities Commission in 1993, where he served<br />
for two terms until 1999. <strong>In</strong> 1997, he received the Cranfield Management Excellence award. After<br />
leaving the Securities Commission, he served as Senior <strong>In</strong>dependent Non-Executive Director of<br />
Telekom Malaysia Berhad for 4 years until June 2004, and was Chairman of its mobile subsidiary<br />
Celcom (M) Berhad from 2002-2004.<br />
<strong>In</strong> June 2004, <strong>Dr</strong> Munir joined the Malaysian Airline System Berhad Board of Directors and later in<br />
August 2004 was appointed its Non-Executive Chairman till July 2011. He became Chairman of<br />
Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad in 2008.<br />
He has served on various governmental boards and committees, such as Malaysian <strong>In</strong>dustrial<br />
Development Authority (MIDA), Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE, now Bursa Malaysia),<br />
Foreign <strong>In</strong>vestment Committee (FIC), as well as various private sector companies and<br />
organizations such as Kuala Lumpur Options and Financial Futures Exchange (KLOFFE), Council<br />
of the <strong>Association</strong> of Merchant <strong>Banks</strong> Malaysia (AMBM), Malaysian <strong>In</strong>ternational Chamber of<br />
Commerce and <strong>In</strong>dustry (MICCI).<br />
He was the founder President of the Kuala Lumpur Business Club (2003-2008) and is now<br />
Chairman of its Advisory Council. <strong>In</strong> May 2004, he was appointed a member of the Court of<br />
Fellows of the Malaysian <strong>In</strong>stitute of Management.<br />
<strong>In</strong> December 2005, he was made an Honorary Fellow of the London School of Economics and<br />
Political Science. <strong>In</strong> 2008 he was made a Visiting Senior Fellow at LSE IDEAS (Centre for the<br />
Study of <strong>In</strong>ternational Affairs, Diplomacy and Strategy) where he heads the Southeast Asia<br />
<strong>In</strong>ternational Affairs Programme. <strong>Dr</strong> Munir is Adjunct Professor of Universiti Utara Malaysia<br />
(UUM). He is a Distinguished Fellow of the Malaysian <strong>In</strong>stitute of Defence and Security (MIDAS).<br />
<strong>Dr</strong> Munir is also a member Board of Trustees of PINTAR Foundation (a body designed to oversee<br />
voluntary educational activities in schools by government-linked companies) and Chairman, Board<br />
of Trustees Malaysia-Europe Forum (MEF). He is a member of the <strong>In</strong>ternational <strong>In</strong>stitute for
Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. He conceived a TV programme, Fast Forward, on Radio<br />
Television Malaysia (RTM)1, which he has hosted.<br />
Born in Penang in 1948, <strong>Dr</strong> Munir received his early education at St Mark‟s Primary School in<br />
Butterworth and the Bukit Mertajam High School. He received his upper secondary education at<br />
the Royal Military College in Sungei Besi near Kuala Lumpur where he was awarded the<br />
Commandant‟s Prize for being the best all-round student in 1967. He left for London the next<br />
year.<br />
Mr Usama DeLorenzo<br />
ASEAN Director, Markets & <strong>In</strong>itiatives, SWIFT<br />
Usama is ASEAN Director for SWIFT in Asia Pacific and is responsible for coordinating SWIFT‟s<br />
support to ASEAN member states in their goal of realizing an integrated financial system through<br />
various initiatives towards the envisioned ASEAN Economic Community.<br />
He joined SWIFT Asia Pacific in 2012. Prior to joining SWIFT, he held positions either directly or<br />
in a consultant‟s capacity related to IT and finance, including with Northrop Grumman, Nextel,<br />
Saturna Capital, Bank Vontobel, Baer Capital Partners, Kuwait Turkish Participation Bank,<br />
Oppenheimer and Co., Dow Jones, the Securities Commission Malaysia and the United States<br />
Central Geospatial <strong>In</strong>telligence Agency.<br />
He has also been a guest lecturer at MIT, Georgetown University, the Wharton School of<br />
Business, New York University School of Law, <strong>The</strong> Stern School of Business and at Barch<br />
College and has published work on the topic of Islamic finance.<br />
Usama is an American citizen and works out of SWIFT‟s Singapore office.<br />
Dato’ <strong>Sri</strong> Abdul Wahid Omar<br />
President & CEO, Maybank, Malaysia<br />
Dato‟ <strong>Sri</strong> Abdul Wahid Omar is the President and CEO of Maybank, Malaysia‟s largest banking<br />
group, a position he has held since May 2008. He is a Fellow of the <strong>Association</strong> of Chartered<br />
Certified Accountants (United Kingdom) and a Member of the Malaysian <strong>In</strong>stitute of Accountants.<br />
Prior to joining Maybank, he was Group Chief Executive <strong>Of</strong>ficer of Telekom Malaysia Berhad<br />
from July 2004. He was formerly Managing Director/Chief Executive <strong>Of</strong>ficer of UEM Group<br />
Berhad as well as Executive Vice Chairman of PLUS Expressways Berhad.<br />
Dato‟ <strong>Sri</strong> Abdul Wahid is a director of several Maybank subsidiaries including Maybank Ageas<br />
Holdings, Maybank <strong>In</strong>vestment Bank and Bank <strong>In</strong>ternasional <strong>In</strong>donesia.
He is also Chairman of Malaysian Electronic Payment System Sdn Bhd (MEPS), Vice Chairman<br />

Mr Nestor V. <strong>Tan</strong><br />
President, Banco de Oro, Philippines<br />
Nestor V. <strong>Tan</strong>, Director and President, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce cum<br />
laude from De La Salle University and an MBA from the Wharton School, University of<br />
Pennsylvania. Mr. <strong>Tan</strong>‟s extensive banking experience spans over 15 years in the United States<br />
and Europe acquired from institutions like the Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh, Bankers Trust<br />
Company in New York and the Barclays Group in New York and London. At Barclays, he served<br />
as Planning Director and Head of Strategic Planning for Corporate and <strong>In</strong>stitutional Services<br />
Group and as Chief Operating <strong>Of</strong>ficer for Financial <strong>In</strong>stitution Services Group of BZW, the<br />
investment banking subsidiary of the Barclays Group. He joined BDO as Executive Vice<br />
President in 1997 and became President of the Bank in July 1998. Mr. <strong>Tan</strong> is a CPA in the<br />
Philippines and United States, and was among the board topnotchers in the 1978 CPA board<br />
examination in the Philippines.<br />
Mr Sim S Lim<br />
Country Head, DBS Bank, Singapore<br />
Sim S Lim joined DBS on 1 September 2010 as the Country Head, DBS Singapore. <strong>In</strong> this role,<br />
Sim is responsible for helping the bank to develop a more acute customer focus and better<br />
leverage the bank‟s home market presence, so as to deliver greater synergy and value across the<br />
entire Singapore franchise. He is also currently the Chairman of DBS Vickers Securities Holdings<br />
Pte Ltd.<br />
<strong>In</strong> his 28 years of banking experience, Sim spent his career in Asia, North America and the Middle<br />
East. Prior to joining DBS, Sim was the President and CEO of Nikko Citigroup Limited, a position<br />
he held from June 2008 to December 2009. During this time, Sim was also a board member of<br />
Nikko Citi Holdings, <strong>In</strong>c. He was responsible for all corporate & investment banking, institutional<br />
brokerage and fixed income & equity trading for Citigroup in Japan.<br />
During his international banking career, Sim held a wide variety of roles spanning Kuala Lumpur,<br />
Tokyo, New York, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong & Singapore. From March 2007 to June 2008, he<br />
was Citigroup Country <strong>Of</strong>ficer, Hong Kong and also Chairman of Citibank Hong Kong. During his<br />
tenure, he managed the Citigroup Hong Kong country franchise, including developing the strategy<br />
for Hong Kong‟s markets and banking franchise, and providing support to the consumer and<br />
wealth management businesses. Between October 2003 and March 2007, Sim was regional<br />
head of emerging markets sales and trading for the Asia-Pacific, based in Singapore. During this<br />
period, he was also the non-executive Chairman of Citibank Berhad Malaysia.
Sim is currently an Alternate Member for DBS to the <strong>Association</strong> of <strong>Banks</strong> in Singapore; Vice<br />
Chairman, ASEAN Business Group, Singapore Business Federation and an Executive Board<br />
Member, China-ASEAN <strong>In</strong>ter-bank <strong>Association</strong>. He also seats on the Board of Singapore Land<br />
Authority in Singapore, Avantage Ventures in Hong Kong and Nikko Asset Management Co., Ltd<br />
in Japan.<br />
Sim was a Japanese government Monbusho scholar and graduated from Yokohama National<br />
University in Japan in 1983.<br />
Mr Chartsiri Sophonpanich<br />
President, Bangkok Bank, Thailand<br />
Chartsiri Sophonpanich was educated in the United States at the Massachusetts <strong>In</strong>stitute of<br />
Technology where he obtained two Master's Degrees in Chemical Engineering and in<br />
Management. After working at Citibank in New York, he returned to Thailand to join Bangkok<br />
Bank on February 1, 1986. He gained extensive experience at both operational and managerial<br />
levels in various departments at Bangkok Bank including Foreign Exchange Trading, Marketing,<br />
Treasury, <strong>In</strong>vestment Banking Group and <strong>In</strong>ternational Banking Group before being appointed<br />
President on December 1, 1994.<br />
Apart from his main responsibility as the President of Bangkok Bank, Mr. Chartsiri is also a<br />
Director of Post Publishing Public Company Limited, and a member of the Board of Trustees of<br />
Singapore Management University.<br />
Dato’ <strong>Sri</strong> Nazir Razak<br />
Group Chief Executive, CIMB Group<br />
Dato‟ <strong>Sri</strong> Nazir Razak is the Group Chief Executive/Managing Director of CIMB Group Holdings<br />
Bhd. (“CIMB Group”). He joined CIMB‟s corporate advisory department in 1989 and was<br />
appointed Chief Executive in 1999. Dato‟ <strong>Sri</strong> Nazir spearheaded the Group‟s transformation from<br />
a Malaysian investment bank to a regional universal bank via several acquisitions throughout the<br />
region.<br />
Today, CIMB Group is Malaysia‟s 2 nd largest financial services group and the 5 th largest in<br />
ASEAN, with total assets of around $95 billion and a staff force of over 43,000. CIMB Group and<br />

Recently, Dato‟ <strong>Sri</strong> Nazir received the “2012 Outstanding Achievement Award” in recognition of<br />
his outstanding contribution to the Asian financial markets. <strong>In</strong> 2011, he was named “Best CEO<br />
(Malaysia)” by FinanceAsia while in 2009 and 2010, Asiamoney recognized Dato‟ <strong>Sri</strong> Nazir as<br />
the “Best Executive in Malaysia”. Dato‟ <strong>Sri</strong> Nazir also became the youngest recipient of<br />
FinanceAsia’s “Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2009.<br />
Dato‟ <strong>Sri</strong> Nazir is married to Dato‟ Azlina <strong>Aziz</strong> and they have 2 young children. He graduated<br />
from the University of Bristol with a B.Sc. (Hons) and obtained an M.Phil. from the University of<br />
Cambridge.
