Supreme Court cancels writ on Madheshis' hiring
Kathmandu: The Supreme Court
quashed the writ filed against the recruitment
of the Madheshi Youths into
the Nepal Army, stating that the Process
was in line with the existing legal
provisions. The order paves the
way for the recruitment Process. A
division bench of Chief Justice Khil
Raj Regmi and Justice Sushila Karki
stated that the government decision
to recruit 3,000 Youths including
Madheshis, Dalits and Janajatis from
all regions of Hills, Mountains and
Madhesh based on the policy paper
brought by the government in this regard
doesn't contravene any legal
Provision.
The Court ordered that the
recruitment be undertaken as per the
existing law. The 3,000 posts are the
vacant positions in the existing
strength of the Army. Arguing from
the side of the defendants, attorney
had stated that this recruitment was
not meant only for the en masse entry
of the Madheshis into the Army,
as argued by the Plaintiffs. Rather,
they argued the policy was under-
taken as part of the inclusive plan
for te underrepresented community
including Madheshis. Government
Attorney Yuvraj Subedi argued that
the government's Policy Paper intended
to first empower the
marginalized communities and then
bring them into competition .

Let's form the Madhesh
based on Equality
Only 45 days is left for the completion of the
terms and the tenure of the Constitutional Assembly.
Therefore it now becomes necessary for the
Madheshi Leaders to put on all their efforts, power
and the time in the formation of the Constitution.
As the Madheshi are in the more need of the Constitution
with Federalism they first need to give
up their personal interest and the conflicts and
should move ahead for the group and the meaningful
efforts towards the formation of the Peace and
the Constitution. The Constitution with the ugly
Federalism would none other than give the continuity
to the rebelling Politics. Therefore it all becomes
necessary for all the Madhesh-based Political
Parties, Madheshi Journalists and the Civil
Society to stand and join their hands together in
the favor of the healthy and the justifiable Federalism.
It's the time to extend the Madheshi Alliance
by bringing all the Madheshi Political parties
inside and outside the Constitutional Assembly
and form the grand and the strong Madheshi
Alliance. The Madheshi Journalists need to play
the vital and the strong role to minimize the distance
between the Madhesh-based Political Parties.
Let all the Madhes-based Political Parties
come under the single umbrella of the Madheshi
Alliance. Hence on the Occasion of the New Year
2069 let we all form the Common Alliance along
with the existence of the Madheshbadi as well as
let us form the Madhesh based on the Equity, Equality
and without discrimination.

always been forced to retain
a flexibility that permits
them to take advantage of
whatever economic opportunities
present themselves.
The hill people migrated from
north of the Siwaliks ranges
into Madhesh. This fact has
historical significant. They are
not the real settlers of the
Madhesh. I would like to
quote: '' Until recently, the
terai was totally a part of
what may be called the northern
Indian plains cultural
sphere, but settlers from north
of the Siwaliks are now introducing
the Nepalese hill culture
into the region.

Apart from the internal immigrants,
Nepalis speaking refugees
from Burma, Assam,
Sikkim, West Bengl, Bhutan
and other places were encouraged
to settle there. On

Madheshee people in the

and hill elites in the name of
the ' Political Victims' were
alloted land in Madhesh by
clearing the dense forest.''
Madheshi People are not in
favor of Nepalization from the
very beginning. They have
been relectant to this new
ohenomenon of social and
cultural trnasformation to
maximum extent. They have
opposed this step openly time
and again: '' The Nepalese
government has taken various
steps to encourage the
Nepalization process in the
Terai but it is clear that the
plains people will resist the
government's more obvious
efforts to transform their cultural
patterns.'' It was hoped
in the beginning when hill migrants
came to mingle with
Madheshi People that there
would be cultural assimilation
but that was also not possible
because Madheshi is a race.
This race has its own cultural
heritage. It could not be
mingled so easily as envisioned
early. It is a very long
and time taking process of
socialization. No race can be
changed and transformed by
the state machinery. The
Panchayat regime tried its
level best when it planned that
there should be cultural assimilation
between the
Mountaineous people and
Madheshi people. Again allow
me to quote: '' Some assimilation
will take place slowly and
naturally as hill people interact
with plains people in the
terai. However, cultural homogeneity
is not a necessary
precondition for national unity.
Certainly the plain people of
the terai could be brought into
participating relationship with
the hill people without adopting
the hill culture. It can be
certainly certified that hill
people are migrants who resides
in Madhesh but they are
not the original habitants. The
Govt. has betrayed Madheshi
People by not including it in
Nepal Federation of
indigeneous People.
The two communities had a
long-standing antipthy in some
sections to the point of hatred.
They have been deprived by
their fundamental rights. Even
the indigenous people who
have been migrated from Tibet
in the 17th century have
been enlisted in it. As for example,
Sherpa people have
been enlisted in it who have
migrated from Tibet in 17th
century. I wouldlike to quote:
'' When the Sherpa first migrated
to soul-khumbu from
Tibet, they were apprantely
under the leadership of such
a married lama; his descendants
form the clan which today
is called the lama clan. As
oppitz has shown, these are
descended from an original
four proto-clan, dating back to
the small group which initially
settled South Khumbu in 17th
century, having migrated from
some where in Khams province,
in eastern Tibet.''
Now a sociologist like Dr.
Om Gurung does not find out
where is Madhesh. He has
set out to search for
Madhesh. In an interview
with the Kathmandu Post
dated March 19-2007. He
asks not to forget the
Madheshis alone are in Terai.
Our interpretation of
Madhesh is different from
that of Madhesis. We want
to know where Madhesh is.
We indigenous communities
think that Madheshis are
there in this country but there
is not land called Madhesh in
Nepal. These Madhesis hav
ecome from Madhyadesh. It
is a place between India 's
Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
''It is true that Madheshi
alone are not in Terai but it
is absolutely true that
Madheshis are the original
inhabitants of Madhesh.
They have not come from
a place between India's
Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as
you assume. He speaks like
the spokesperson of the
government. The Govt. is
not in mood to accept the
ground reality that
Madhesh is the part and
parcel of this country.
Sometimes govt. accepts
this reality but it refutes
that Madheshi people are
unwanted and unrecognized.
Madhesh is the
backbone of Nepal. It feeds
whole Nepal. So this country
needs Madhesh but it
does not need Madheshi
People. What an irony? It
is pity that he opines that
the rulers of this country
brought them into Nepal.
The rulers of this country
themselves have come
from Rajasthan, India. We
Madheshis have not come
from anywhere. We have
been here from the time
immemorial. We have
made this country prosperous
by dint of labour. We
have cultivated the virgin
land of Madhesh first of all.
Do not forget this historical
fact. Do not try to misguide
and mislead people.
You are not an authority to
speak on the origin of
Madheshi people because
you do not know the ground
reality. The Govt. also
wants to have Madhesh but
not the Madheshi people in
this territory which is a Himalayan
mistake, committed
by the Govt. Some elite
people consider themselves
that they are rulers and real
master of the Madheshi
People. No Madheshi can
tolerate these fictious statements.
They are no more
subjugated and sub-dued
and sub-standard people.

about identity among
Madheshis, Matrika Yadav,
the most prominent leader
from Terai, stated that te
rulers in Nepal as well as
Indians have said that the
Madheshis are of the Indian
Origin. Madhesh according
to him is a nation having its
own language and economic

We will form Constitution with Federalism
Has the Peace Process reached to
the climax?
In terms of the completion of the
Peace Process, the process of the
army integration was the top most
issue which is no the Process of
completion. Therefore we could
better say that the Peace Process
has almost reached the climax
point. The Process of the Army
integration which was taken as the
major obstacle and the hindrances
on the path of the Peace Process
has almost reached to the climax
as the Nepal Army has already
taken the entire charge of the
Maoist Combatant.We could be
sure that the main door for the
formation of the Constitution has
already opened by now. Along
with the formation of the
Costitution the Peace Process will
also be completed at the time.
Has the relation between the Maoist
and the PLA disconnected after
the NA took the charge of the
PLA?
It's not only the Maoist PLA but the
army of the entire Nation formed
to fight for the Nation. There was
two Army in the Nation. One
known as the Shahi Nepali Sena
and next Janamukti Sena that
would fight for the Nation. The
major issue mentioned in the Peace
Process was to democratize the
Nepali Army and Commercialized
the Janamukti Sena and then ultimately
form the National Army
integrating both the Nepali Army
and the Janamukti Sena. Therefore
on the basis of the Process
6,000 Janamukti Sena are merged
into the Nepali Army but not the
Janamukti Sena are handed Over
to the Nepal Army actually as it
has been misunderstood.
But your Party had decided to take
the integration and the constitution
formation process together?
Yes, the Party had decided of taking
the integration Process and the
Constitution formation Process
together but as per the unfavorable
condition and the circumstances
it had become difficult to
take both the Process of the Army
integration and the Process of the
Constitution formation together.
And at the same time it had also
become quite difficult to discuss
on both the issue together inside
the Party. Therefore it's obvious
that one of the issue and the
agenda has to have remained back.
But as the Peace Process is the
major issue of the Nation all the
Political Parties agreed to solve the
issue of the Peace Process first
and then move towards the integration
and the process of the
Constitution formation.

Party?
As you have been viewing every
thing but above all the major issue
and the agenda is the Peace and
the Constitution. And we have

Development and construction of roads in the Terai area of Nepal:
Phase-I of the project covers the development of 19 link/postal roadsequaling
605 Kilometres in the Terai area of Nepal. The roads were selectedby the
Government of Nepal and are presently under various stages ofconstruction.
Being built at a cost of NRs. 1100, these roads wouldfacilitate easier movement
of goods and services in the country benefitingnearly 88 lakh people in
the area. This would significantly accelerate theeconomic development of
Nepal. Phase-I will be followed by Phase-II andwill cover about 900
kilometres of roads. Construction of Integrated Check Posts
Government of India is building four Integrated Check-Posts (ICPs) atmajor
points along theIndia-Nepalborder.Theseare:Raxaul(India)-Birgunj(Nepal),
Saunali(India)Bhairahawa(Nepal),Jogbani(India)-Biratnagar(Nepal) and Nepalgunj
Road(India)-Nepalgunj(Nepal).Work has already started for the construction of
ICPs at Raxaul in India andBirgunj in Nepal. Work on ICP at Jogbani in India has
already startedwhile work on the ICP at Biratnagar is expected to start soon. The
estimatedcost of Raxaul-Birgunj ICPs and Jogbani ICP is approximately NRs.
400Crores. The ICPs will have state-of-the-art infrastructure, facilitatingintegrated
customs and immigration for smooth cross-border movement of people and goods.

People yesterday and even today too
we belong to the Party of the

say.We have formed by the People
and have been working for the
People. Therefore there is no doubt
that our Party ( UCPN-Maoist) is a
Civilian Party and we ensure that
we would always be working for
the welfare and the rights of the
People.

Federalism without One Madhesh Pradesh won't be accepted: Mandal

Man shot at in Parsa
Bara: An unidentified group opened fire at a person at
Parwanipur, an area bordering Parsa and Bara districts, along
the Birgunj-Pathalaiya road section Tuesday morning.The
group opened fire to Chunu Alam, of Birgunj Sub-metropolitan
City-2. Alam is a scrap dealer for Dabur Nepal. According to
police, Alam has been seriously injured in his right shoulder.
The Narayani Sub-regional Hospital, Birgunj has referred him
to National Medical College, Birgunj for further treatment. Condition
of Alam is said to be critical.According to eye witness,
the incident took place at the Show Room of Dugad at
Parwanipur while Alam was returning home.Why Alam was shot
at has not been ascertained yet, said police. Investigation into
the incident is underway, said Superintendent of police at the
District Police Office, Parsa, Ramesh Kharel.
Hailstorm kills two
Rautahat: Two Persons were killed and three injured when hailstorm
accompanied by high winds lashed Rautahat in the morning
leaving behind a trail of devastation across the district.
Police said Sunarpatidevi Patel-64 of Aurahiya VDC and
Rambhadevi Sahakanu-42 of Aurahiya were killed after their
houses collapsed due to the storm. Over 100 houses in the
district are learnt to have been damaged by the winds. In
Aurahiya , property worth Rs. 1.2 million was destroyed after a
chicken farm collapsed, killing more than a thousand chickens.
The district agriculture offc ie said that the crops and the vegetables
worth Rs 260 million have been damaged.
Trader shot at Birgunj
Birgunj: Chattu Alam aka Channu-30, a trader in Chapkaiya,
Birgunj, had sustained a bullet injury when two unidentified
persons shot at him in Birgunj-Pathalaiya Industrial Corridor
on Tuesday Morning. Chattu is a sub-contractor at the waste
contract department in Dabur Nepal Private Limited, a multinational
Company. Chattu said that three rounds of bullet were
fired on him, injuring him on his stomach. He has been taken to
the National Medical College. Doctors attending him sais that
Chattu is now out of the danger. The Persons who had shot at
him has not been yet identified whereas the Police is on the
investigation of the case and the culprits would be soon found
out, said the district Police.
Man chops off wife's legs‚ hands
Biratnagar : A man killed his wife at Sundarpur-3 in Morang on
Wednesday morning with a sharp-edged weapon inside the
rented room they were staying in.Thirty-five-year-old Naresh
BK, a permanent resident of Kushaha-4, Sunsari killed his wife
Asha BK (27) at 3 am this morning, Morang District Police
Office said.The couple had quarreled early in the morning and
husband BK mercilessly beat and dragged Asha to the road
and chopped off her legs and hands, according to the police.She
died while undergoing treatment in Dharan.The culprit fled the
scene after slaying his wife with weapon.
Lamichhane is best jailor
Nepalgunj: Shyam Lal Lamichhane, a jailer serving at Prison
Office Nepalgunj, has been felicitated with Best Jailer Award.
Jailor Lamichhane was honored with the award after undertaking
on-site studies and monitoring of 74 prisons across the
country, said Victim People's Service Association. He was felicitated
with cash prize of Rs. 15,000 along with a letter of
appreciation amid a programme organized on the premises of
Nepalgunj Prison on Tuesday. On the occasion, Banke Chief
District Officer Dhundi Raj Pokharel stressed the need to develop
jail as improvement centre and create environment for
the prisoners to get rehabilitated in the society after completing
jail term.Despite large number of prisoners beyond capacity,
the Nepalgunj Prison Administration has paid special attention
to the moral and social improvement of detainees, commented
Association Director Dinesh Neupane.
Police make public journo
Poudel's 'killers'
Jhapa: Police have made public three suspects in the murder of
the Jhapa-based journalist, Yadav Poudel. Those made public
are Som Dhakal and his wife Manju, owners of the Purbanchal
Sekuwa Corner hotel where Poudel was killed, and one Yubraj
Giri, publisher of a soon-to-be-launched newspaper in which
Poudel was offered the responsibility of editor.Before the media,
Manju stated that Poudel was killed after Giri pushed him
down from the roof top of the hotel. Organizing a press conference
this monring, police said Poudel´s murder was incidental
and that the killing had nothing to do with Poudel´s professional
commitments.According to Manju, Paudel and Giri had
come to her hotel around 11 that night to have drink. While in
the hotel, they had a long heated argument on phone with
Madan Rai over some financial dealings, she narrated.

Plot against Constitution on: Mahato
Itahari: Health Minister Rajendra Mahato said that conspiracies are afot to
not promulgate the constitution on time and major parties were in on ot. Speaking
to the Press in Itahari, Mahato said that those who were earlier ploting to
promulgate a constitution without federalism are now dwelling on how not to
promulgate a constitution at all. The Madheshi Leader warned that if a constitution
without Federalism were to be promulgate, his party would burn copies of
it throughout the country. '' Only a federal constitution-based on identity of the
people and their capacity will be acceptable to our Party,'' added Mahato. Minister
Mahato said that ' some forces' have been going around saying that they
are strong supporters of Federaism but the way their actions speak ootherwise.
Mahato , who was quoted by the Media few months agoas saying that his Party
would cut the fingers of those against Federalism, clarified that his remarks
were taken literally.
Will go for the People's Revolt if no
Constitution: Chairman Yadav
Janakpur:The three days National Conference of MJF-Nepal has been
accomplished in Janakpur. The Conference had also clarified on the need
of the '' Autonomous Madhesh Province'' and the '' Autonomous
Madhesh'' citing the recent Proposal of State Restructuring to be the
Anti-Madheshi. The Conference had also focused on the timely formation
of the Constitution by Jestha 14 along with the completion of the
Peace Process by the end of Chait, formation of the constitution along
with the Federalism and the implementation of the previous deals and
the agreements between the Madheshi Morcha and the Government.
Speaking in the Conference, the Chairman of the MJF-Nepal Upendra
Yadav accused the three big parties for being against the Peace and the
Constitution. He further said that they would go for the next People's
Revolt if the Constitution is not formed in a time. Yadav further added
that they would go for the Pressure at first and then finally go for the
People's Revolt.

Thakur for unity among
marginalised
Kathmandu: Tarai Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur
said Madhesis, Aadibashis, Janajatis and other marginalised groups need to
forge an alliance to fight for their rightful share in the new
constitution.Thakur, speaking at a Nepal Madhes Foundation-organised
book launch, said only Madhesis have the right to decide on provinces
needed in their region."Members of the Khas community are trying to
impose their own interests on the new constitution. Why should we own
up the new constitution if it does not ensure a Madhes government?" Thakur
argued.He said unlike Madhesis, Aadibashis, Janajatis and Dalit communities,
the Khas community did not have their own identity, and therefore,
suppressed other communities.Citing the case of MJF-R Chairman JP
Gupta, Thakur said when a particular class rules a country, members of
other classes never win. Thakur said Madhesis were already in minority in
Jhapa and Chitwan and if discriminatory practices continued, the same
would be the case in other districts of Madhes.Rights activist Malla K
Sundar said discrimination was one of the several problems plaguing the
marginalised.
Parties need to be sincere : Minister Gupta
Illam: Law and Justice Minister Brijesh Kumar Gupta said that statute would be
promulgated on time if all parties work sincerely. Taking a dig at the delay of
statute-drafting Gupta said that the Constitution would not be promulgated
even for years if the Party Leaders fail to work whole-heartedly. He said although
the government makes the law, the problem arises when it is made
without giving due consideration and without consulting the concerned bodies.
Speaking at a Programme organized by Law and Justice Ministry in Illam,
Gupta said that if we consult the concerned bodies while drafting a Particular
Law, then it could be impleented in a right way and benefit people on a larger
scale. On a different context , Gupta suggested that advocates should consider
doing at least one free caste in a year for the poorer section of the society,
adding, ''I request Nepal Bar Association to ponder over it.''
Minister Jha Promises Constitution
with Federalism
Birgunj: Minister for Industry, Anil Kumar Jha has expressed his confidence
that the nation would get the new constitution based on federal
model of governance within May 27."The major political parties have
forged consensus on the peace process and that the nation would get the
constitution with federalism within the stipulated time-frame of the Constituent
Assembly, "said Jha at an interaction programme organised by
Reporters Club Nepal, Parsa.Foregrounding the main features of the new
constitution as federalism, republicanism, secularism, and inclusive democracy,
he said, his party was for making three federal states on the
basis of geography.On the occasion, Minister Jha expressed his serious
concern over his party not being included in the United Democratic
Madhesi Forum (UDMF) and said this may disrupt the unity among the
Madhes based parties.

Samsung introduces new range of
multi-view cameras
Kathmandu: Him Electronics has launched
three models of dual-view and multi-view cameras
in the market, targeting young generation.
The new cameras are priced between Rs 13,990
and Rs 25,990.Binay Tripathi, deputy general
manager of Him Electronics the authorize distributor
of Samsung home appliances in Nepal, said the new cameras
have been launched targeting youths. "When a couple goes for outing,
they cannot capture fine pictures themselves through other cameras. But
with the help of Samsung dual-view and multi-view cameras they can

Ramindra Chhetri's album launched
Kathmandu: The Army Officer's Club proudly hosted the album launch of
"Jeevan Sundar Chha" Volume I and II, by Brigadier General Ramindra
Chhetri on Wednesday, April 11. Army Chief Chatra Man Singh graced the
launched as the Chief Guest and congratulated
Chhetri at the event. The
album was released with the intention
of raising fund for the establishment
of a welfare organization for
the physically incapacitated military
personnel. Chhetri shared his views
at the ceremony saying, "I never
imagined myself being involved in
music but after having crossed 50
years of my life; I composed this as
a part of my service to the country
and my fellow army members have
supported me to the fullest in this
journey."The album has 16 songs of
different genres that have been divided
in to two volumes. The event also had the launching of four music
videos that are a part of the album itself. At the same time, yet another
music album composed by Army Band, titled, "Camp Fire" was also released.
Both the album team that of Chhetri and the Army Band performed
at the launch ceremony.
Mithila is the name of that part of
the state of Bihar which is situated
to the north of the Ganges and lies
to the east of the famous land of
Bhojapur. In ancient India Mithila
formed a state by itself, and one of
its names was Videha, so called after
the name of the family of its
illustrious rulers. References to this
name are found in the Vedas also.
Mithi was one of the rulers of this
family and he is said. to have carried
out the asvamedha yaj-iza over
every step of this land, thereby
rendering it holy.
The area over which this famous
sacrifice was performed. is
described as bounded on the north
by the Himalayas, and on the south
by the Ganges, with the Kosi and the
Gandaka rivers flowing to the east
and the west respectively. This area
became known by the name Mithila.
References to this name are found
in the Yajfiavalkyasmp?ti and the
Ramayana. The word Mithila was
derived from -/manth., to churn, by
the author of the Unadisiitra (U.S.
60). Mithila was the name of a sage
(mithilaica mahatejah.,
Matsyapurana, section 132, 113th
verse, quoted by Muir in the Original
Sanskrit Texts, vol. i, p. 278). The
name of Mithila may have some
connection with the name of this
great sage.

at once be dismissed as merely
conjectural. It may not sound
unreasonable to say that Mithila has
some connection with Skt. mithatogether.
Hence Mithila may mean "
attached together " inasmuch as
Mithila is the name of that part of
the country which is made up of not
less than three ancient principalities
; namely, Vaisali, Videha, and Anga.
Thus it would be likethe United
Provinces of Agra and Awadha,
popularly known as United
Provinces, now constituted into the
state of Uttar Pradesh. But on
account of the shifting course of the
three rivers mentioned above,
particularly of the Kosi, it is difficult
to fix the boundary lines of Mithila
except on the north, where the

Highway to hit theaters by mid-June
Kathmandu: The makers of the film 'Highway' organized a press conference
at the Yala Maya Kendra, Patan Dhoka on Thursday.This was
the first official meet held by the filmmakers after the selection of the film
for the 62nd Berlin
Film Festival. The film
premiered in the Panorama
Category of the
fest earlier in February
this year, the first time
for a Nepali film to
qualify for the slot.
The meet was a casual
talk session where the
makers, along with the actors of the movie, shared their personal experiences
from prior and while shooting of the film."We have come a long
way," said Deepak Rauniyar, the director of the film, adding, "and we still
have a long way to go."Highway is Rauniyar's first feature film which
narrates the story of a group of people estranged on the highway after
their bus is caught in a banda."The story is true of our times and I think
every Nepali can relate to it," said Richa Sharma, the actor who plays
Kabita, a sex worker in the film. Richa claimed that the script of Highway
is better than any other films she has seen, be it from Hollywood or the
Indian film industry. Karma, another actor in the film, shared, "Upon hearing
about the script, I couldn't say no," he said.Rauniyar joined voice with
Karma saying, "All I had was a script and my faith in it," he shared.

The two words, i.e. Apabhrainsa

current languages. Locana
(seventeenth century), the author
of Ragatarangini, who has quoted
several verses from the Paddvali
of Vidyapati, calls the language
of the latter Maithila

among the country songs, on
account of their being of a good
country, first of all, several
examples of modes of songs of
Mithila, composed by the poet
Vidyapati in the Maithila-
Apabhratitsa language are given
below (R., p. 37). The practice
of referring to Maithili as Apabhratnsa
continues even to this day amongst the
pandits of Mithila. Pt. Mukunda Jha,
who published his translation of the
Amarakosa very recently, also called
this Maithili Apabhratiisa. (Cf.
Introduction to Amarakosa, p. 5,
Madhubani, 1924.) This explains the
absence of reference to the name
"Maithili " in earlier works. But this
remark may hold good for all the
modern Aryan languages of India. A
comparison may be made with the use
of the terms Prakrit for Bengali as
noticed above, and Aryabhasa for Hindi
amongst the Aryasamajists. Amongst
the uneducated people, Maithili is called
Hindi also.
Such persons reckon Hindi to be Urdu.
This seems to have been due to the
fact that Maithili was generally used
by the Hindu population of
Mithila,"while educated Mussulmans
spoke Hindusthani or Urdu, the
language used in law courts. It is
interesting to note that documents
written in the Persian script and in the
Urdu language are said to be written
in Fdrasi, Persian. But the revival of
Maithili literature and the discussions
on the question of medium of
instruc?tion in the schools of Mithila
are putting an end to the practice of
calling Maithili by this name, i.. Hindi..

following pages to any name other than
Maithili, other?wise confusion will be
caused and no useful purpose served )
Though there are several Mai. dialects,
only three of them have received
distinctive names.
