Filmmaking is normally a protracted, drawn-out<br />

process in which it takes months or even years to<br />

bring someone’s idea to screen; we’ve crammed that<br />

into two days. Students filmmakers were given<br />

prompts, cameras, and 48 hours to write, shoot, and<br />

edit their original movies to compete for top honors in<br />

this annual <strong>Bow</strong>doin events. Enjoy the films and cast<br />

today’s society where lust, legitimacy, love, and lying<br />

are common social currency, anything and anyone is<br />

fair game. Set in modern-day London, Patrick Marber’s<br />

play explores the themes of love, sexuality, and the<br />

Museums and Exhibitions<br />

Established in 1811, with collections spanning the<br />

ancient world to the twenty-first century, and housed<br />

in a building designed by Charles Follen McKim of<br />

McKim, Mead, and White, the <strong>Bow</strong>doin <strong>College</strong> Museum<br />

of Art is a vital resource for the campus and community.<br />

The recent renovation, designed by architects Machado<br />

and Silvetti Associates of Boston, creatively combines a<br />

preservationist’s techniques with new architecture that<br />

respectfully enhances the old. It integrates the<br />

museum’s traditional features with a dramatic new entry<br />

pavilion, an inviting glass curtain wall, and a complete<br />

renovation of the entire interior of the building.<br />

Visitors experience a vibrant exhibition program<br />

featuring both rotating selections from the collections<br />

and dynamic changing exhibitions of objects from<br />

museums and collections around the world.<br />

Sit Down! Chairs from Six Centuries<br />

Celebrates the museum’s distinguished collection of<br />

American and European furniture, focusing on chairs<br />

dating from the fifteenth to the twenty-first centuries.<br />

Ranging in date from a medieval armchair produced<br />

around 1500 to the Nurse Hat Chair designed by<br />

Richard Prince in <strong>2008</strong>, this exhibition examines the<br />

evolution of style, the nature of technological innovation,<br />

and the social meaning of seating furniture.<br />

The Art and the Deal<br />

Organized in conjunction with an economics seminar,<br />

this installation considers historical issues in the<br />

commercial art market ranging from the privileging of<br />

certain media and techniques to questions of<br />

authentication and intellectual property. Should artists<br />

be granted complete freedom to create, and how does<br />

public funding influence the answer? Litigation where<br />

works of art are the subject of disputes offers insights<br />

into the value of an artist’s total oeuvre, how prices are<br />

affected when an artist dies, the economic impact of<br />

authentication, and even the existential question of what<br />

Masterpieces of European Painting from the<br />

Wadsworth Atheneum<br />

Ten masterpieces of Italian, Dutch, and Spanish painting<br />

are on long-term loan from the Wadsworth Atheneum<br />

Museum of Art, one of the nation’s premier museums,<br />

located in Hartford, Connecticut. Among the works are<br />

paintings by Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, Giuseppe<br />

Ribera, and Aelbert Cuyp. Ranging in date from the late<br />

sixteenth-century to the mid-eighteenth-century, these<br />

works are integrated with selections from the<br />

permanent collection to offer a fresh perspective on<br />

centuries of radical painterly innovation.<br />

Contemporary Masters<br />

This installation features postwar works by such<br />

internationally renowned artists as Gerhard Richter,<br />

Michael Mazur, and Alex Katz.<br />

Palace Reliefs from Kalhu (Nimrud)<br />

The Assyrian bas-reliefs were carved at the behest of<br />

the Assyrian king Ashurnasirpal II in the ninth century<br />

BCE. The large stone panels once decorated the walls<br />

of the royal palace in the king’s new capital at ancient<br />

Kalhu and offer a visual narrative of Ashurnasirpal’s<br />

deeds supported by figures both mortal and divine.<br />

Simply Divine: Gods and Demigods in the<br />

Ancient Mediterranean<br />

The exhibition explores the nature of divinity in the<br />

Ancient Mediterranean, the relationships between gods<br />

and the realms they control. The installation organizes<br />

around select realms (Eros and Love, Fertility and<br />

Nature) and explores the myths and iconography that<br />

connect these spheres of divinity.<br />

The Renaissance and Revival of Classical Antiquity<br />

Explores the Renaissance and its relationship to ancient<br />

Greek and Roman culture. Artists and craftsmen of the<br />

Renaissance drew inspiration directly from works of<br />

antiquity, often working alongside these objects in their<br />

studios. The exhibition recreates a period in artistic<br />

history, pairing the finest examples of <strong>Bow</strong>doin’s<br />

Renaissance holdings alongside classical artifacts.<br />

1. Close all of your browsers (Safari, Internet Explorer,<br />

Firefox, etc.).<br />

2. Choose “BOWDOIN-GUEST” from the list of wireless<br />

networks available.<br />

3. Open a web browser. Wait for the guest wireless<br />

registration page to open. Refresh your web browser<br />

if it does not load.<br />

4. Fill out the information and click “Log In.”<br />

5. Access to <strong>Bow</strong>doin’s guest wireless will expire in 24<br />

<strong>Par</strong>king<br />

Guest parking is available in the lots in front of Hatch<br />

Science Library, Moulton Union, Druckenmiller Hall,<br />

Coles Tower, Farley Field House, and Watson Arena,<br />

and the parking lot on Sills Drive (the former site of<br />

Dayton Arena). There is also a large parking lot on<br />

Coffin Street. <strong>Par</strong>king is not allowed along the sides of<br />

<strong>College</strong> Street.<br />

Alcohol<br />

The <strong>Bow</strong>doin community is reminded that no<br />

one under the age of 21 may purchase, procure,<br />

transport, or consume alcoholic beverages. State law<br />

and <strong>College</strong> policy prohibit the public consumption of<br />
