expanse of sea as far as the Pontine Islands.
The small, characteristic historic centre of San Felice
Circeo, whose focal point is the 13th-century Torre
dei Templari tower and the Palazzo Baronale, which
lie on Piazzetta Lanzuisi, is the hub of night life in the
summer, with its bars and typical night spots, shops
and boutiques, and is a favourite haunt of show
business VIPs.
From here one can explore the hill from two
approaches. The Strada delle Crocette is a steep road
that goes through the holm-oak thicket up to the
plateau that leads to the Circeii acropolis; the Strada
del Faro road, on the other hand, winds along the
coast on the southern side of Quarto Caldo, leading
to the residential area and affording views of the sea.
A trip by boat will allow you to see the many
fascinating grottoes here–Azzurra, del Presepio, delle
Capre, del Fossellone, dell'Impiccato, della Maga
Circe-–which are connected to special sites: the
Batteria, Punta Rossa, the alabaster quarry, the
Precipizio, the Fico, Cervia and Paola towers. The
rugged coastline of the promontory gives way, on the
southeastern side, to the beach which, except for
some interruptions, extends as far as Terracina.
Circeo offers a very special vacation for visitors, which can be
spent either in the hotels along the seaside, in those in the
interior, or in one of the many villas and apartaments for rent
here. For those who prefer boating and yachting, there is the
marina, which also has boat connections with the island of
Ponza in the summer.

Der kleine, charakteristische historische Stadtkern, in dessen
Mitte sich der Turm Torre dei Templari aus dem dreizehnten
Jahrhundert und der Palazzo Baronale erheben, die auf die
Pizzetta Lanzuisi blicken, ist im Sommer Mittelpunkt
pulsierenden Lebens, wo sich Cafés und typische Lokale,
Boutiquen und Läden aneinanderreihen, und beliebter Treffpunkt
von Prominenten aus dem Showbusiness. Von hier aus kann der
Berg auf zwei Weisen entdeckt werden: die Strada delle Crocette
steigt, überschattet von dichten Steineichenwäldern, bis zu einer
Hochebene an, die zu den Resten der Acropolis di Circeii führt;
die Strada del Faro hingegen windet sich auf halber Höhe um den
Südhang von Quarto caldo und führt zu einem Wohngebiet und
den Seeparanoramen. Die Umschiffung mit dem Boot bietet das
Schauspiel der zahlreichen Seegrotten: Azzurra, del Presepio,
delle Capre, del Fossellone, dell’Impiccato, della Maga Circe,
neben weiteren sehenswerten Stätten: la Batteria, Punta Rossa,
der Alabasterbruch, der Abgrund (Precipizio), die Türme Fico,
Cervia und Paola. Die Felsenküste, die das Vorgebirge
auszeichnet, geht am Südosthang in den Strand über, der, mit
geringfügigen Unterbrechungen, bis Terracina weitergeht. Ferien
am Circeo sind etwas ganz Besonderes, und man verbringt sie am
besten in den Hotels am Meer bezw. in denen im Hinterland oder
in einer der zahlreichen Villen und Wohnungen. Liebhabern des
Lebens an Bord steht der Yachthafen zur Verfügung, von dem
aus im Sommer die Verbindung mit der Insel Ponza garantiert
wird.
