Decreasing of air quality in the Western part of
Surabaya is increasingly showing appalling conditions.
Moreover the increasing of CO2 emissions are very
dangerous if it is not carried out a more serious treatment
to the reduction in carbod emissions. One of the parameters
of air quality degradation is the CO2 emission that is one of the
biggest component caused the Greenhouse Effect Gas (GHG).
Dense settlements in the Western Part of the Surabaya City is
as one potential contributor of CO2 emissions.
The differ dence settlements caused a different CO2
emissions resulting from settlement activities. But
unfortunately there is no database of CO2 emissions from the
settlement activity. The CO2 emissions from the settlement
activity is divided into two i.e primary and secondary CO2
emissions, known by the term carbon footprint. The primary
CO2 emissions is resulting from fuel used in households, while
the secondary CO2 emissions is resulting from the used of
electric household equipment. Quisonare sampling was
conducted to get the CO2 emissions data. The number of
samples was obtained based on the statisfical analysis of
respondent that 100 of respondents were distributed randomly
at western part of Surabaya.
Analysis of CO2 emissions is to use two variables: the
type of home and electrical power. Two variabels i.e type of
vii

house and electrica power were used to determine the CO2
emission. Housing type was that is divided into three, simple,
medium and luxury house. While electric power was divided
by three type electric R1(450–2200VA), R2(2200–6600VA),
and R3(>6600VA). The CO2 emission were calculated based
on Revised 1996 IPCC Guidelines for National Green house
Gas Inventories. The calculations showed the primary CO2
emissions amounted to 969.573 tCO2/month and total CO2
emissions secondary amounted to 13.096.86 tCO2/month.
While the total CO2 emissions amounted to 14066.433 t
CO2/month.
Factors affecting CO2 emissions was the amount of
fuels, electrical devices in the household, time use of electric
device, electric power and the housing type. Based on the
calculations the highest of primary and secondary CO2
emissions were in the District Sukomanunggal
.
