1.2.3 The Workshop
The program of the workshop is given in appendix B.
The first part of day one of the workshop was dedicated to the review of the current state of the
knowledge. After the overall introduction of the Water and Energy playfield, the links to
Climate Change and the options for Energy and Resource Recovery by invited speakers, GWRC
member’ representatives provided presentations on their available knowledge and research
activities. The overview of the presentations of the workshop is given in appendix D. The
presentations are available in a separate document and at the member section at the GWRC
website.
The overall gaps of knowledge and research needs were discussed and identified by the
workshop participants in three breakout groups and subsequently summarized and clustered in a
plenary session.
On the second day, new breakout groups were constituted to identify the research priorities and
develop project proposals around three overarching themes resulting from day one. Project
proposals were plenary presented and discussed, and a first prioritisation and survey of member
interest to support the projects was made. As result a charcoal sketch of an overall research
strategy was made.
The feedback by the participants of the workshop was overall very positive and included
suggestions for further improvement of the GWRC processes.
