INTRAMURALS
Cinzano romps to soccer crown
by Ed Swartz
Cinzano easily won this year's
soccer intramurals by overpowering
the Buzzards 4-0 in the
championship game.
Cinzano's only tough game
came in the first round of the
playoffs against an intimidating
Warriors team. The Warriors were
the only team to ever score against
Cinzano, but it wasn't enough to
win the tight game as they bowed
out 2-1.
Cinzano then erased E.S.
Tylenol in an 8-0 effort, after the
latter received a bye the first
round.
The Buzzards advanced to the
finals by beating W.A.T.W. 4-1 in
the first round, and squeaking past
a scrappy Ipswich V team 3-2 in the
semifinals.
College soccer
Although only one game has
been played so far, Baker appears
to be the team to watch this year in
college soccer. Baker manhandled
a solid Sid Richardson team 6-1
Saturday.
Before Baker scored the first
goal, the game looked like it might
be close with both teams showing
good ball control. The Baker team,
comprised mostly of two
tournament teams, Warriors and
Ipswich V, drew out the SRC
Monday league
Ready to Score, managed by Bill
Stockton and basically a Lovett
team is steamrolling over its
opponents having racked up scores
of 41-10 against the Free Throws
and a whopping 70-6 crusher over
Sweet Georgia Brown. No one
team member dominated the
scoring as Jennifer Geran, Karen
Ashby, Jodi Radziewicz, Gina
Pabst and Wanna Hadnot scored
equally well with Tracie
Blumentritt a strong sub. The Free
Throws have a 1-1 record as do For
Colored Girls Who Considered
Suicide When Rice Was Enough.
Sweet Georgia Brown has the
cellar position with two losses.
Wednesday league
Lisa Kay Mao's Fast Break team
is out in front with a 3-0 record.
One win was awarded by a forfeit
from The Few who evidently were
too few and had to withdraw from
the competititon. Dana Mischlich,
Kate Moynihan and Mao sparked
the scoring. Fast Foods gave Fast
Break some tough competition
with Leslie Neblett and Wendy
Brockman pumping in all the
baskets only to lose 22-30. Sex
Kittens, captained by Christy
Moore, are tied with Fast Foods
having 1-0 records.
Thursday league
Good Girls and Flaming
Flamingos are tied with 2-0
records. Baker's Best and White
Shadow Returns are both looking
for their first win. High scorers for
Flaming Flamingos were Mary
Ellen Trunko, who garnered 16
points against Baker's Best, and
Genie Lutz scoring 14 points in the
same game. Good Girls led by
Naomi Logsdon's 14 point effort
and assisted by 8 points from Joan
Pflugrath had a 38-10 victory over
Baker's Best.
Sophomore Leland Key became
the offensive* star for Baker,
earning four goals. Classmates
Tom Loose and Bill Burgess also
added a goal apiece.
Baker's defense also played
aggressively, turning back several
SRC advances. Goalie Jim Gage
had a good game but was not
seriously challenged, thanks to the
strong defensive line.
Baker will next play Lovett, who
had a first-round bye. Also this
weekend, Jones will face Will Rice
and Hanszen will square off
against Wiess.
