SP approves
thermometers
purchase
By BuTCH guNio
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—
Third District Board Member
Monina “Monz” Laus, chairperson
of the Committee on Health,
has worked for the approval of
the Sangguniang Panlalawigan
resolution allocating P300,000
budget for the purchase of digital
thermometers.
Relative to this, the Provincial
Health Office (PHO) will tap the
public elementary school teachers
to act as front-liners and
responders in the fight against
dengue through regular monitoring
of the health condition of
the students.
Dr. Marcelo Jaochico, PHO
officer, said most of the children
are staying in school for almost
eight hours a day, hence, teachers
could be utilized for health monitoring.
“Hinihingi namin sa mga guro
na sila ang magmonitor sa kalagayan
ng mga bata lalo na iyong
mukhang may karamdaman
upang agad silang maagapan,”
Jaochico said.
Gov. Lilia “Nanay” Pineda said
she will instruct the PHO to distribute
the digital thermometer
to all grade levels in public elementary
schools in the province
by the end of July.
“We will advise the teachers
to check the temperature of the
students before and after class
for any possible changes in their
health condition,” Jaochico said.
The PHO officer added that
if they discover something irregular,
the concerned teachers
could immediately advise the
parents and take the students to
the nearest rural health unit or
district hospital.
“Importante talaga ang agarang
pagdidistribute ng mga
thermometer sa mga eskwela
upang di na dumami pa ang mga
biktima ng dengue,” she said. ●
started accepting Friday ap-
plications for Import Com-
modity Clearance (ICC)
stickers of motorcycle hel-
Central Luzon.
DTI regional information
officer Wilfred Carbonell
said “Section 6 of Republic
Act 10054 otherwise known
as the Motorcycle Helmet Act
of 2009 mandates our agency
to be the lead determinant in
the quality of helmets out in
the market.”
Under the law, all riders
including the back-riders are
obliged to wear ICC-marked
helmets in order to curb the
rising number of deaths in
motorcycle accidents that is
frequently caused by the ab-
sence or substandard protec-
tive gears.
RA 10054 does not cover
tricycles and other similar
modes of transportation such
as pedicabs.
Based from the law’s Im-
plementing Rules and Regu-
lations that was released re-
cently, all helmets to be sold
beginning 2012 must bear
the ICC mark.
Carbonell added “for mo-
torcycle riders whose hel-
mets were purchased prior
to 2012, they are required to
go to the nearest DTI office to
obtain the ICC sticker.”
DTI will be processing ICC
sticker applications for free
until September 30, 2012.
Land Transportation Of-
the new measure on August 1
good its promise that the construction of
a fly-over and the concrete pavement of
the Jose Abad Santos Avenue in the City
of San Fernando will be completed by August
this year.
Traffic jams, not only during rush hours,
are now a frequent sight along JASA, the
interprovincial highway that slices through
the very heart of Pampanga. Traffic gridlock,
as well as lack of parking space and
disorderly road construction, has become
a bane for San Fernando’s businessmen
and an inconvenient gift to motorists plying
JASA.
Of course, everybody welcomes the development
that the new fly-over and the
elevated concrete road would bring for
the province but this is no reason for the
DPWH and its contractor(s) to prolong the
agony of motorists and businessmen due
to the slow-paced construction of these
vital projects.
People have noticed the seemingly deliberate
step of the contractors of sending
only a few heavy equipment and workers
to construct such huge projects. Construction
firms undertaking such multi-million
projects should be capable of delivering
the works satisfactorily and quickly. This
is not the case in the fly-over and JASA
road repair constructions.
Had it not for the intervention of the provincial
and city government, the construction
had not been facilitated albeit still a
bit slower in the eyes of the common folk.
Massive projects such as these should
also involve proper traffic management
and planning to mitigate the inconvenience
to motorists and businessmen, who
are supposed to be afforded relief by the
soon-to-be-completed projects.
Traffic, dust and unavailability of parking
spaces due to excavations are, indeed,
killing businesses that are hoped to
flourish further when road networks and
other infrastructures are in place.
Let us hope that while the government
is spending billions of pesos to line up infrastructures
to boost local and national
economy no existing business will die in
the process.
Sure win for Mabalacat City
“Mabalacat businessmen, who will eventually be the most important sector to
propel the income of the soon-to-be city, are supporting the cityhood.”
I have no doubt that the proposed
conversion of Mabalacat into a component
city will be approved in the plebiscite
by the Mabalaqueños. So, as of this
writing, I am congratulating the people
behind the “Yes to Mabalacat City” campaign
for they will all be rejoicing for the
success of their cause as soon as this article
sees print.
In the history of the country, there
are only a few towns who failed to get
the nod of their constituents in their bid
to become cities.
More often than not, a town’s aspiration
to become either a component
city or highly-urbanized city gets overwhelming
vote in the plebiscite even
as oppositions are mounted and heavy
campaign for “no” are carried out.
Just recently, Imus in Cavite joined
the roll of newly created cities after
20,438 of its residents voted for its conversion
in a plebiscite held last June 28.
It was only a few weeks since Bacoor,
also from Cavite, was declared a city
following a victory of the “yes” vote in a
separate plebiscite.
Why? Even at face value—meaning,
we are not yet talking about the economic
gains of cityhood—more people
in town will go on to vote “yes” for the
cityhood. Those who are not pondering
too much on things (mababaw, in harsher
term) will probably be for cityhood
especially those who like the sound be
being called as “one from the city.”
Remember how the people from
the province (promdi) were prejudiced
as against their counterparts belonging
to modern cities? In this modern age of
THIS DAY IN HISTORY
computers, such a thought
still creates a psychological
barrier on people.
Taking on the issue of
cityhood deeper, further
makes the Mabalacat City
advocacy more acceptable
to majority of the people.
Economic gains of a city
are staggering if we are
to look into what have become
of those places that
were recently elevated
to the city level. Further,
those cities that have been
declared component cities
for a long time are now
being pushed to become
highly-urbanized cities,
meaning they can now
stand on their own without the support
of their respective provincial governments.
Take the case of Cabanatuan City
in Nueva Ecija. Compared to the City of
San Fernando in Pampanga, the Ecija
component city is not as accessible as the
2nd city of Pampanga. However, the economic
gains that Cabanatuan had in the
past few years since it was converted into
a city have been very significant that it is
now gearing to be an independent city.
Even with the initial application
of a town to become a city, it already
needs to fulfil requirements in population,
land area and, most importantly,
income. Malabacat has satisfied all the
basic requirements as a proof that it is
in itself able to collect enough money to
support its expenditures.
Even Vice President Jejomar
Binay, an authority in
city matters, has congratulated
the local government unit
of Mabalacat for its cityhood
hopes. Binay’s commendation
for Mayor Marino Morales, by
all means, does not come from
nowhere but from a person
who knows by heart what a city
status could bring about to the
people.
Mabalacat businessmen,
who will eventually be the most
important sector to propel the
income of the soon-to-be city,
are supporting the cityhood.
With the vice president
and the businessmen going for
cityhood, who will be against it?
Well, like in many a world’s stage,
there should always be protagonists and
antagonists to complete the cast of a
lively and interesting show. The antagonists
in the Mabalacat Cityhood zarzuela
now seemed to be actual stage actors
who were given scripts to follow to either
malign or maul the lead actors only to
end up losing to the delight of the audience.
They are just a part of the show so
important, that without them the performance
will be uninteresting and dull.
Vice Mayor Noel Castro and other
oppositions to the cityhood campaign
did a very good job in showing to the
people the pros and cons of cityhood.
Thanks to them, many Mabalaqueños
were properly informed about what they
are voting for and it really matters now
what they wrote on the ballot. ●
Jul 23, 1988: Guns N’ Roses make popular breakthrough with “Sweet Child O’ Mine”
In the 1980s, Los Angeles was a mecca for
so-called “glam rock” bands and the “sex, drugs
and rock and roll” lifestyle with which they came
to be associated. On any given night inside
clubs like the Troubadour and the Whisky a Go
Go, you could not only hear bands like Hanoi
Rocks and Mötley Crüe or, later, Winger and
Warrant, but you could also witness an expression
of that lifestyle as decadent as any the music
world had seen. The rise of “grunge” bands
like Nirvana and alternative rock effectively put
an end to that scene in the early 1990s, but the
first blow was struck by one of their own: Guns
N’ Roses, the band that made its big popular
breakthrough on July 23, 1988, when their first
hit single, “Sweet Child O’ Mine” entered the
Billboard Top 40.
Upper Cut
Ambet LAcAnLALe
To the guys in pop-metal groups like Poison,
Guns N’ Roses might have seemed at first to be
just another fellow hair band, but Axl Rose and
the rest of the classic GN’R lineup—Slash, Izzy
Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler—were
interested in rock and roll that was much more
raw, angry and honest than what the pop-metal
bands were playing. Originally formed out of the
ashes of two other groups—L.A. Guns and Hollywood
Rose—Guns N’ Roses played in a style
that owed much more to the pure hard rock of
the 1970s than to the showy heavy metal of the
1980s. Signed to Geffen in 1986, GN’R released
their first full-length album, Appetite For Destruction,
the following summer, and with it their debut
single, “Welcome To The Jungle.” Appetite
For Destruction would eventually be certified
15-times Platinum, and “Welcome To The Jungle”
would become a massively popular Top
10 hit, but neither the album nor its first single
was an immediate success. It took nearly a year
of touring and the release of a second single,
“Sweet Child O’ Mine,” to earn Guns N’ Roses a
place in music history.
Built around an opening riff that GN’R guitarist
Slash considered a silly throwaway, “Sweet
Child O’ Mine” went on to become not just a #1
hit on this day in 1988, but also a true rock classic.
Voted onto “greatest” lists by Rolling Stone,
Blender, the RIAA, BBC and the like, “Sweet
Child O’ Mine” made stars out of Guns N’
Roses, and it made so-called “power ballads”
like Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” seem
weak by comparison. ---history.com

me to share it here with you.
What is God trying to make of
us in our later years? How can we
make some sense of their diminishment
and pain? Can the often
bitter water of these years ever be
turned into wine?
Old age is terrifying to most
of us: we need help to navigate it
well. Occasionally we meet wisdom
figures who help us
to see the way forward,
people who have come to
terms with the reality of
their own ageing. They
are just themselves; they
are not “difficult”—or at
least not for long. Love
flows through them to
those around, even if
they’ve had a stroke and
can hardly talk. If you
can find such people, try
to be like them. If you can
become as they are, you
will be a blessing for the world.
Some level of experience of
God as being good is needed in
order to face the final stage of our
journey. From God – whether we
recognise it or not – there comes
est terrors that will overtake
mankind and trigger his destruction,
of health, properties
and livelihood is humongous
garbage generation.
Before the mushrooming of
fast-food chains the only kind
of refuse we have in
abundance are tin
cans from cooking oil,
milk, sardines and
bottles from sodas
and cardboard boxes
from wholesale detergent
powder, and even
bath soap bars which
are among the general
merchandise patronized
from consumers
A to D bracket. The
packaging in the early
days had no plastic
content.
This practice too has disappeared
with the shift from tin
cans to plastic. While tin cans
can be flattened or rust to become
part of the soil, plastic sachets
from sardines to instant
viand, to toothpaste and shampoo
down to the condiments for
instant flavors then add the rise
of instant noodles, are an entirely
different repulsive story. The
partial list is only “a tip of the
iceberg” and must be reasons
enough why we are experiencing
so many changes in our environment.
●
to us “all that is good” (Eucharistic
Prayer 4). We do well to reflect
on this. We come to see that our
development to our present stage
of life required us to let go of previous,
comfortable stages. While
we may have resisted, something—or
Someone!—was pushing
us on till eventually we had to
let go. This pushing was for our
good—like the pushing involved
in giving birth. It brought us to
something better.
This process continues in our
final years. The final push and
letting go, which is our dying,
will bring us something incomparably
better than we now have.
Only with empty hands can we
grasp what is before us. A wise
and good God orchestrates our
ageing. So we can entrust ourselves
to the process, believing
that God will reveal to us new
vistas of what human life is truly
about, what ‘no eye has seen, nor
ear heard, nor the human heart
conceived—what God has prepared
for those who love him’ (1
Corinthians 2:9).
Till next time. May your week
be blessed. ●
JULY 23-24, 2012
Gov. Lilia Pineda: Getting there.
Inauguration of the PNP Action Center with Gov. Pineda and Chief Supt. Edgardo Ladao, PNP Regional
Director.
If you are asked to a journey that
will lead you to a peaceful and orderly
place, will you try?
Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda is
inviting all Kapampangans to join her
in this journey that will transform
Pampanga into a place where peace
and prosperity abound.
The moment Governor Nanay set
foot in the highest hierarchy of public
service in the province, she eagerly
started to work for the realization of
this trip to peace and tranquility.
She has done a thorough study on
the peace and order situation. She
discovered the scarcity of the police
force; inadequate number of service
vehicles and lack of motivation of the
village police or “tanods” in the performance
of their duties.
Never minding the situation, the
governor applies the old cliché, “If
there is a will, there is a way”.
Yes, it is the determination of Nanay
Gob to pursue her dream of making
Pampanga a peaceful place to live in
which paved the way for the Capitol to
respond to the needs of the Provincial
Police Office.
With the able leadership of Police
Senior Superintendent Edgardo
Tinio, police director, the police have
designed a master plan on how to address
the problem on the scarcity of
police force to oversee the peace and
order.
They tapped and activated the
services and volunteerism of 10,000
barangay tanods of the province who
serve as force multipliers.
These village police underwent
trainings on how to solve petty crimes,
conduct dialogues and proper coordination
with the PNP and AFP. Aside
from this, they were given baton and
uniforms for their daily patrols.
Through the initiative of Governor
Nanay, police personnel were given capacity
and capability-building seminar
to update their knowledge and skills in
crime prevention. She allotted budget
for the construction and rehabilitation
of police stations and gave them communication
equipment for intelligence
and network.
To make sure that no one is left
in this endeavor, Governor Nanay
distributed motorcycle patrols to all
the more than 500 barangays of this
province to be used by the tanods for
crime prevention and emergencies.
Doing a math here, 1,058 skilled and
trained-police personnel plus 10,000
indomitable tanods, we now have
11,058 abled-men to protect the more
than two million Kapampangans.
Now, these men are ready to usher
the Kapampangans toward the road of
emerging peace and prosperity.
Nanay gob realizes that the preparation
for the journey is not easy.
It requires enough time, resources
and sacrifices. Nonetheless, she has
worked for it and is continuously
working to achieve the Kapampangans’
dream of peace and order in the
province.
Yes, the journey starts here. Nanay
Gov is ready to take the lead but she
needs the support of every Kapampangan
for this journey to succeed.
Peace and order is not the sole responsibility
of the police, armed forces
and the political leaders. Everyone is
accountable. You and I have the role.
Let’s contribute for the realization of
In a move to get cybersecurity
legislation approved before
the Senate recess, Sen. Joseph
Lieberman (I-Conn.) and four
colleagues introduced a modified
version of their proposed cybersecurity
legislation that adds
privacy protections for consumers
and removes government
mandated security standards.
Republicans had opposed the
initial version of the Democratbacked
bill, introduced in February,
because it called for the
Department of Homeland Security
(DHS) to assess power companies,
utilities, and other firms
that operate critical infrastructure
for security problems and
create performance standards --
provisions that were considered
too regulatory and restrictive
on businesses by Republicans in
the Senate.
The new version also allows
information sharing among private
firms and the federal government
on threats, incidents,
and best practices, while preserving
the civil liberties and
privacy of users. That change
came at the behest of civil libertarians
who complained that
the measure was too broad and
could authorize wiretapping.
Senators introduce new cybersecurity
bill
A compromise was needed
in order for the measure to get
at least 60 votes in the Senate.
Lieberman acknowledged that
the amended measure was watered
down some, but uggested
JULY 23-24, 2012
US Senators soften latest
cyber security measure
Lawmakers remove regulatory aspects and add privacy protections for information sharing,
in a bid to get Republican approval for legislation aimed at protecting critical infrastructure
from cyberattacks.
that even weakened legislation
if it gets passed is better than
none. “While the bill we introduced
in February is stronger,
this compromise will significantly
strengthen the cybersecurity
of the nation’s most critical
infrastructure and with it our
national and economic security,”
wrote in a statement published
on his Web site.
“This compromise bill creates
a public-private partnership to
set cybersecurity standards for
critical American infrastructure,
and offers the reward of
some immunity from liability
to those who meet those standards,”
Lieberman wrote. “In other
words, we are going to try carrots
instead of sticks as we begin
to improve our cyberdefenses.
This compromise bill will depend
on incentives rather than mandatory
regulations to strengthen
America’s cybersecurity. If that
doesn’t work, a future Congress
will undoubtedly come back and
adopt a more coercive system.”
Specifically, the revised Cybersecurity
Act of 2012 would:
Establish a multi-agency National
Cybersecurity Council
-- chaired by the Secretary of
Homeland Security -- to lead
cybersecurity efforts, including
assessing the risks and vulnerabilities
of critical infrastructure
systems.
Allow private industry groups
to develop and recommend to
the council voluntary cybersecurity
practices to mitigate
Many Windows users like Microsoft Security Essentials because
it keeps them safe without having to do much. Some prefer
more control, and they often turn to third-party security
software. TinyWall is a small program that works with MSE
and gives users the ability to fine-tune their security setup.
Here’s how to get started:
1. Install TinyWall here.
2. Run TinyWall. It will quickly take up residence in your
system tray, where you can access it by clicking on its icon,
which looks like an orange wall in front of a globe.
Step 2: TinyWall menu.
3. It’s important to note that TinyWall defaults to denying
almost all programs access to the Web. (Chrome and Steam
worked for me, but Outlook did not.) Fortunately, it’s pretty
easy to allow programs to sneak through the firewall. Just click
the TinyWall icon, then select whichever “Whitelist by” option
tECH tIPS
identified cyberrisks. The standards
would be reviewed and approved,
modified or supplemented
as necessary by the council to
address the risks.
Allow owners of critical infrastructure
to participate in a voluntary
cybersecurity program.
Owners could join the program
by showing either thorough selfcertification
or a third-party
assessment that they are meeting
the voluntary cybersecurity
practices. Owners who join
the program would be eligible
for benefits including liability
protections, expedited security
clearances, and priority assistance
on cyberissues.
Create no new regulators and
provide no new authority for
an agency to adopt standards
that are not otherwise authorized
by law. Current industry
regulators would continue to
oversee their industry sectors.
Permit information-sharing
among the private sector and
the federal government to share
threats, incidents, best practices,
and fixes, while preserving
the civil liberties and privacy of
users.
Require designated critical
infrastructure -- those systems
that, if attacked, could cause catastrophic
consequences -- to report
significant cyberincidents.
Require the government to
improve the security of federal
civilian cybernetworks through
reform of the Federal Information
Security Management Act.
The American Civil Liberties
Union said it was pleased with
the changes related to privacy.
“What’s clear is that the cyber
train is leaving the station and
we are happy to help break the
news that it looks like the Senate
is moving to pass something
much better than CISPA from
a privacy standpoint,” Michelle
Richardson, legislative counsel
for the ACLU Washington office,
wrote in a blog post. “Not all of
the problems with the Cybersecurity
Act are solved yet, and you
better believe that amendments
to strip the privacy protections
are in the mix.”
Specifically, the revisions ensure
that shared information
goes directly to civilian agencies
and not the military; the information
is used strictly for prosecuting
cyber crimes and pro
tecting people from imminent
threat of death or harm; agencies
must submit annual reports on
what information is shared and
what is done with it; and people
are allowed to sue the government
if it intentionally violates
the law, according to the ACLU.
Dissatisfied with the original
Lieberman measure, GOP
lawmakers had proposed their
Gain greater control of your firewall in Windows 7 and Vista
feels the most comfortable. Whitelisting by window certainly
seems easiest, but I had some troubles with it. You may want
to try whitelisting by executable, but you will need to know
where on your hard drive you can find each program you want
to allow access.
4. You can also select Manage to bring up a window containing
your current exceptions and fiddle with notifications and
other details.
Step 4: TinyWall Manage window.
5. Select Change Mode to quickly change global access. You
can easily permit or deny all traffic, or set it to Autolearn,
which is great for new systems and can make the process much
faster.
That’s it! TinyWall isn’t for all Windows users, but it can be
great for those who like the price of Microsoft Security Essentials
but want more control over its inner workings. --CNET
Intelligence Sharing and Protection
Act), that opponents
said would usher in a new era
of information sharing between
companies and government
agencies with limited oversight
and privacy safeguards. Sens.
Jon Kyle (R-Ariz.) and Sheldon
Whitehouse (D-R.I.), also
had proposed an alternative
bill. Other co-sponsors of the
AMD has scary
things to say
about PC market
Advanced Micro Devices, the
world’s second largest PC processor
supplier, had some sobering
things to say today about the
PC market when the company
reported earnings today.
“For the first time since 2001,
client PC shipments have declined
sequentially for three consecutive
quarters-and have been
below historical averages for the
last seven quarters,” AMD CEO
Rory Read said during the chip
supplier’s second quarter earnings
conference call.
“We also believe the PC industry
may be resetting to a new
[lower] baseline,” he said.
Revenue declined 10 percent
to $1.41 billion for the the Sunnyvale,
Calif.-based company.
AMD, which is particularly
sensitive to consumer PC demand,
also said sales will be
down 1 percent, plus or minus
3 percent, in the third quarter
from the second.
That’s a steep drop from historical
trends. AMD’s sales have
grown on average 14 percent
from the second quarter to the
third over the past 10 years,
according to Mike Burton, an
analyst at Northland Capital
Markets, whose comments were
cited in a Bloomberg report.
While Intel, the world’s largest
chipmaker, wasn’t as negative
as AMD, CEO Paul Otellini
said earlier this week that it was
only expecting full-year revenue
growth in the 3 percent to 5 percent
range versus previous expectations
of “high single digits.”
This may be the first signs of
the “Post-PC era,” said a Piper
Jaffray analyst. “Consumers are
prioritizing smartphones and
tablets at the expense of PCs,”
wrote Gus Richard in a research
note.
And market researcher
Gartner said last week that
“consumers are less interested
in spending on PCs” and more
interested in purchasing “the
latest smartphones and media
tablets.”--CNET

CABANATUAN CITY—The
prime suspect in last year’s coldblooded
murder of a British national,
this city’s most wanted man, was
Police Superintendent Eli Depra,
police station commander, identified
the slain suspect as Hearns
Valen Hizon alias “Palos”, 24, of
St. Nicolas Subdivision, Barangay
Bantug here.
The shootout took place around
11:20 p.m. Thursday along a street
in Purok 4, Barangay San Juan AC-
unidentified companion, encountered
the six-man police team led
by Senior Police Officer 3 Rene Catipon,
who were tipped off of Hizon’s
presence in the area.
Instead of surrendering, Hizon
opened fire, triggering the shootout
which led to his death. His companion
was able to escape.
Depra said Hizon was the suspect
in the high-profile murder of British
national Graham Paul Bayley,
58, who was robbed then gunned
down at dawn of December 31 last
year, which sparked an outrage
within the British Embassy.
Hizon was also tagged for murdering
a certain Marvin Mejia and
the wounding of Zaldy Flores at the
Freedom Park, Barangay Sangitan
West in this city on September 27,
2010.
Hizon also has three standing
warrants of arrest for carnapping issued
by three Regional Trial Courts
and pending cases for robbery with
homicide. The three warrants alone
carry a bail of P780,000.
Teen rescued from prostitution
HERMOSA, Bataan—A “deceived” 16-yearl old teen was rescued
from prostitution with the help of a radio reporter.
In a statement submitted to police authorities, radio reporter Danny
Cumilang said he was eating at Marites Eatery in Barangay Palihan, this
town, around 11 p.m. last week when the manager of the eatery identified
as Cecil Morales approached him and offered a young girl for sex.
He said he and the young girl went inside a VIP room. He stated he
asked the girl when she started working at the eatery and how old she is.
Cumilang said upon hearing the reply of the girl that she just started
working at the eatery the day before and that her age is 17, he immediately
went out of the room and sought assistance from the Hermosa police
station to rescue the minor.
The police immediately responded, rescuing the young girl and arrested
Morales.
Based on the statement of the young girl, she revealed that she is just
actually 16 years old and a resident of Guagua, Pampanga.
The victim also said in her statement to the police that she and another
female friend were hired merely as food servers, and did not know that
she will be offered to customers for sex.
She said they were introduced by certain Abigail De Mesa to the owner
of the eatery named Teresita “Marites” Dela Cruz.
It was learned that the Hermosa Office of the Municipal Treasurer issued
a certification stating that Marites Eatery has no mayor’s permit to
operate for 2012.
Morales is now detained.
Cumilang, however, lamented that Dela Cruz must also be charged for
duping a young girl into prostitution. “Dapat makasuhan din si Marites
bilang may-ari ng eatery hindi yung manager lang”. ● (Butch Gunio)
This time marks 1 6 8 2
will come to you easily. Invest-
love 7 affairs-and discuss 3 them 4 without emotions getting 6 in the way. A friend may request some attention
this evening--trust your intuition.
TAURUS (APR. 2 20-MAY 20) 9 4 8
Your professional techniques are commendable and you will be able to demonstrate your capable
expertise. Remember to separate some of your interests. If you are involved in deeply refining some
technique or talent, you will want to seek out those people that have the same interest and converse with
your co-workers about their interests. You are very tolerant and accepting of other people’s differences
and this is good. You have good insights into all social values. Independent, you like to simplify, compromise
and otherwise show your breadth of scope--like a coat of many colors. Shopping this afternoon,
perhaps a new store, will have you wishing you had left the credit or debit cards behind--easy. Your flair
for the unusual may not receive as much support.
GEMINI (MAY 21-JUN 21)
Working in group projects is where the greatest progress is now. You could be most persuasive with others
and eloquent in speech and communication. A current situation is a natural for your self-expression.
You have plenty of ideas to share with others. A good conversation with those you love is possible later
this afternoon. You may find yourself guiding a young person in some matter of importance. You could
help this young person come up with new solutions or inventions. You are other-oriented these days
and others enjoy being with you and learning from you. It is not what you do so much as how you do it,
not who you are so much as how you make others feel about themselves. If it does not come from the
heart, it should not matter now.
CANCER (JUN 22- JUL 22)
You can sometimes seem a bit eccentric, seeking out unusual pleasures and relations. You may become
restless and bored by existing routines--you are eager to explore new ground. Try to temper your
exploits with wisdom. Additionally, you may find it favorable to voice new ideas to others in hopes of
winning them over to your way of thinking. You have discipline to complete your work. This is indeed
your time to shine. Issues of pride, mastery and appreciation become more central to your life stream
as this cycle progresses. There is open communication available. Now is an excellent time to plan for
the future--both financially and socially. Do not forget to include your family when making any important
decisions this evening.
LEO (JUL 23 - AUG. 23)
There is a natural ability to negotiate with the law and authorities, plus an ability to find your way--the
correct way--when it comes to inner and spiritual matters. There could be situations that call upon your
expertise to inform or guide others within the bounds of legal matters. Others will accept your guidance
and counsel. Your drive to get at the heart and truth of things is invoked and serves as a common
theme in your life. You will be please by the recognition you may receive from your co-workers today.
Your relationships with others, especially women, will be more harmonious now. On a more practical
level, this is a good time to effect subtle changes in your social life. Now is a time of excess--however,
moderation in all things is best.
LIBRA (SEP. 23 - OCT. 23)
Your fertile mind is very clear and able to separate the most complex concepts into their component
parts for easier understanding. You are called upon to help with contracts or some sort of legal workwhich
is successful. If you treat others as you would want them to treat you, there should be no difficulties
today. Your objectivity should enable you to converse with others about subjects that may have
been too difficult before now. This is a good time to look into future career plans. Be sure to keep an
open mind about all ideas or proposals, paying attention to all the details involved. Plans made today
should work out, no matter how far down the road. This is a perfect day to look for a new home. Also,
check out your insurance coverage.
SCORPION (OCT. 24- NOV. 21)
You are a natural architect and builder, able to use your mind to make decisions in matters of form and
function. Careful . . . your imagination may run toward the way things ought to be, rather than on reality. In
communicating with others, you will most likely find greater clarity through using rational thought. There
is no reason, however, to lose that imagination of yours; together with rational thought, you will be able
to come up with some unique and very workable solutions. Law, philosophy and religion have much
potential to impact your lifestyle. Explore your options and consider teaching or taking an educational
course that will add to your skills. A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in this evening.
There is romance.
SAGITTARIUS (NOV. 22 - DEC. 21)
You are very sensitive--even vulnerable when it comes to expressing yourself. This is a time of intense
creativity enabling you to go through changes and inner growth. A sudden break may occur now that
will remove a limiting influence in your life. This may mean the end of a relationship that was not right
for you, or it may mean quitting a dead-end job. Whatever the situation is in which you find yourself will
return some freedom to you that you have not had in quite some time. It may be time now to open up
your own shop or to begin teaching private classes. Whatever the planetary alignment is at any one
time, you seem to have the talent for finding the best in any situation--others look to you as a mentor.
CAPRICORN (DEC. 22 - JAN 19)
Changes in the workplace are pleasant and you and your co-workers have waited a long time for
changes to occur. Thank goodness this is not a challenging day . . . there have been enough of those
while waiting for the changes to take place. There is an air of fun, cooperation and the feeling that your
professional standing is secure. It seems that several people are putting some pressure on you . . .
needing your attention for one thing or another. Be sure to make it clear what you are willing to do and
save some time for yourself. At home this evening, you may decide it is time to make some changes.
This may mean a new paint job or buying some landscape plants and creating a water garden. A family
member may decide to help you with that water garden.
AQUARIUS (JAN. 20 - FEB. 18)
Work, achievement and ambition are the things that mean a lot to you now. You have a natural sense for
communicating with others, especially those younger than yourself. Clear thoughts about the past may
also be flowing in today. Taking care of business is a major theme where your emotional orientation is
concerned. You crave organization and practicality and you want to get things accomplished. You aim
to have a place for everything and everything in its place--and anything that gets in the way gets on your
nerves. Take time to smell the flowers! This is a great afternoon to recharge the batteries. Take a stroll,
chat with friends, listen to music and visit a farmer’s market. Surround yourself with beauty. Tonight you
tell someone you love him or her.
PISCES (FEB. 19 - MAR. 20)
Superficiality will not be tolerated today. Leave that sort of thinking for another time and concentrate
on whatever project is current. You will learn some new problem-solving techniques from a co-worker
today. You have several opportunities to work with young people, perhaps involving your teaching of
economy or budgeting as well as passing on the new problem-solving technique. You have an inner
urge to be all things to all people and would rather bend than argue. You are a natural diplomat, always
courteous and concerned with the comfort and welfare of others. You are equality minded and easy
to talk with--a great mediator or negotiator. You are particularly good at relations, politics, diplomacy
and sales.
All surgical services, such as removal
The said medical facility, which
operations that will be scheduled every
The traffic gridlock lasted for several
in the morning of Friday. It did not,
however, match the humongous traffic
created by the opening of the SM
City Pampanga when motorists had
to leave their vehicles on the streets
for the night due to heavy traffic volume
on major roads.
Located on a 7,835 square-meter
is situated in the already crowded
downtown San Fernando area where
the city hall, metropolitan cathedral
The city police designated traffic
policemen and other force multipliers
tight area. This was even made worse
by the on-going construction of major
Bulacan holds river
system clean-up
CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan—Around 500 Bulakeños
from various sectors joined the clean-up drive
at the Marilao-Meycauayan-Obando River System
(MMORS) last July 19.
Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, together
with other government officials, Philippine National
Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Air Force
Reservists and other non-government organizations,
led the clean-up drive and patrolled the river system
while announcing to the public the strict implementation
of laws protecting the MMORS.
“This activity is part of our long-term solution to erase
the bad image that is associated with our MMORS. We
are serious in making our vision a realization. With the
help of other government agencies and the citizens, I am
positive that we can be successful in this project,” said
Alvarado.
A short program was held at Barangay Saog, Marilao
where the signing of the implementing rules and regulations
of the No Plastic Ordinance was done. ●
Matagal na yung tsismis na may romansa
kina Camille Prats at Sam Milby. Pero ang
bagay na ito ay tinatawanan lang kapwa ng
dalawa. “Sam and my Kuya John are good
friends kasi naging co-hosts sila ng isang
lunch time show sa ABS,” she says. “We
hang out at nu’ng birthday ko, he treated
me to dinner then we went to the taping of
my Kuya. ‘Yun lang ‘yon. ‘Wag na lagyan
ng malice.”
Ayon naman kay Camille, nagdalawangisip
siyang tanggapin ang role bilang ina ng
dalawang teenagers, sina bBea Binene at
Barbie Forteza sa Luna Blanca. “I told them I’m only 27, baka
hindi ako maging credible, mag-suffer lang ang show,” she
says. “But they assured me di nila ko pababayaan, patatandain
nang konti ang hitsura ko. Direk Dominic Zapata explained to
me how important my presence is as the mom of Barbie and Bea,
pero sa Ikatlong Yugto na magiging sina Bianca King at Heart
Evangelista na sila, ayoko na talagang maging nanay nila. By
that time, si Tita Lani Mercado na ang gaganap as me.”
Camille enjoys hosting “Mars” on GMA News TV, Monday to
Friday at 6 p.m. “Very informative kasi and very educational.
Modelung-modelo ang dating ni BB
Gandanghari sa grand launch ng TV5’s
5-Star Prime kung saan ay kasama siya
sa eco-fantasyang Enchanted Garden na
isa sa mga bagong primetime show ng
Kapatid network.
Patalbugan nga sila ni Ruffa Gutierrez
ng kagandahan habang nasa stage ang
buong cast.
Ang Enchanted Garden ang first teleserye
ni BB at first acting job niya ulit
after three years.
Sobrang na-miss daw niya ang
acting kaya naman enjoy na enjoy
siya sa taping.
Asked kung ilang figures ba ang kanyang
talent fee rito, natawa si BB at nagsabing,
“Nakakaganda naman ’yun. ’Yun
“I’m very happy for him. I’m very
proud of this boy,” sambit ni Bb. “I remember,
alam ninyo, nasa America ako,
nu’ng first time may nagsabi sa akin na,
‘Uy, may Padilla na artista!” Sabi sa akin
ng kaibigan ko roon.
“Sabi ko, ‘sino?’ ‘Baka kapatid
mo ’yun?’ Sabi ko, ‘bakit, ilang taon
na?’ ‘Mga 16 or 17.’ Sabi ko, ‘gagah,
patay na ang tatay ko 25 years ago,
paanong magkakaroon ng 16-yearold
na bata?’
“Nalaman ko eventually, anak ni
Rommel. Nu’ng nakita ko, ginoogle ko,
sabi ko, ‘sisikat itong batang ito.’ That
was last year,” patuloy ni BB.
Nagkita na nga raw sila ng pamangkin
at binigyan pa niya ito ng advice.
“Yung immediate na advice na sabi ko
sa kanya, ‘huwag kang magpapalaki ng
katawan, ha? Okay na muna ’yan.’ Kasi
bata pa, eh, ’di ba? Kaya fresh na fresh siya.”
“Tita” raw ang tawag sa kanya ni Dan-
many reports these days of Pinoys being struck by lightning and
how to avoid it.
Kapuso teen stars Diva Montelaba and Kristoffer Martin also
discuss mother-child conflicts caused by teen relationships.
“Diva teaches us ni Suzy Abrera how to dance a hip MARS
dance. Kristoffer, on the other hand, shows how to refurbish
old bull caps to accentuate your teen son’s urban style. And finally,
undergo an obstacle-based fitness regimen that promises
to tone you up faster than you can expect.”
Kahit tanggap na ng buong angkan…
BB di pa rin kayang tanggapin ni Robin Padilla
iel at lahat naman daw ng pamangkin
niya ay tanggap siya as BB.
“And I guess they’re happy for
me as well. At saka ano, eh, siguro
parang nakikita naman nila sa akin
how comfortable I am sa kanila,” say
pa ng comebacking actor.
Kinumusta rin ng press kay BB
ang relasyon nito sa kapatid na si
Robin Padilla at kung natanggap na
ba ng huli ang kanyang pagiging
BB Gandanghari.
“’Yun naman ang sinasabi
niya, eh, tanggap naman daw
niya. Kaso, hindi pa lang daw
siya ready na... ako naman,
easy lang. So, kung ’yan yung
stand mo, why not?
“But I’m sure, one day
and, hopefully, soon,
maging normal na ’yung
pakikitungo namin sa
isa’t isa,” say ni BB.
