REGISTRATION POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Online registration is our preferred method and is highly recommended. You may register for programs online and will
receive a receipt of your transaction sent to your email. Registrations are still first come-first served so you will be able to
register early at your convenience. Go to our website www.wayland.ma.us/pages/WaylandMA_recreation/index. You may
call our office at 508-358-3660 to register, mail in your registration form, fax it to 508-358-3665, or drop by our office as long
as space is available, but there is a chance that you‘ll have to wait and spots may fill quickly.

Our classes are supported solely by fees. If you need to cancel a program, you must do so at least 10 business days
before a program begins for a refund minus the administrative fee. After that time, no refunds are given except for
medical reasons with a doctor’s note. Requests for refunds must be in writing with a short explanation.
Refunds may take 4-6 weeks for processing. Cancelled classes due to low enrollment will be fully refunded.
An administrative fee of $10 will be retained per person per program for youth withdrawals from fall, winter,
spring programs, $20 for summer programs*, and $10 for all adult programs.
*NEW* - Refund and withdrawal requests for Summer Adventure, CIT, Wayland Escapes and Beach Buddies must be made in
written form and dated on or before June 7. AFTER JUNE 7th, NO REFUNDS FOR THESE PROGRAMS WILL BE GRANTED.
CANCELLATIONS DUE TO WEATHER
Cancellations will be placed on the Weather Cancellation Hotline (508 - 358 - 7572) or website not more than 2 hours
before scheduled activity. Last minute cancellations are placed on the hotline as they occur.
No classes are held when school has been cancelled. If a program is cancelled, we will notify you when, and if, it will be made
up. Make-ups, if possible, are at the end of a program--follow the normal schedule until you hear from us.

Council on Aging’s annual event is back!
Kindergarten - 5th graders shop for their holiday gifts (priced within a child’s budget).
“Elf” assistance available to young shoppers if needed (Girl Scouts).
To make sure gifts are a surprise, young shoppers visit the free giftwrapping department before returning
to their waiting parents enjoying refreshments in the adjacent Holiday Shoppe Café.

Rock out to the science of vibrations,
sound and music. Using a range of dynamic experiments,
we’ll break the sound barrier, make a fiery sound wave,
and silence an alarm clock using nothing at all. Strange
instruments will abound, including one that harnesses the
power of lightning to make music.

With Magic, merry mayhem, and magnificent props,
the audience is taken on a trip throughout the Mesozoic era.
How do we know dinosaurs were here? What is a fossil?
How are they made? Dinosaurs! is a fun and informative
program. Dinoman will discuss the age of the earth, how it
is divided into eras, how fossils are formed, dinosaur
behavior and the newest finds.

WORKSHOP
Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 19 & 20
How would you like to build a
robot that has four built-in microphones?
It will detect the sound source and in turn it
will move and turn accordingly. It’s your own
robot to build and take home. Learn about
the different gears and sensors as you build
it. Get to build other robots working in
groups. Join in our Sumo wrestling and
obstacle course events with what you have

Come to Pond Hollow Farm and meet Simon and Pebbles.
Learn about horses and horsemanship during supervised
barn activities, including safety, how to groom, how to lead,
and parts of the horse. Indoors, enjoy fun, horse-themed
activities, games, arts and crafts, and more!

KITE DESIGN AND BUILDING WORKSHOP
Tuesday and Wednesday, April 16th - 17th
Connect with your creative side and make your own kite and
learn how to fly it at Cochituate Field! Some possibilities may be
nature-themed, abstract, or animal inspired. It’s all up to your
imagination! You’ll use some recycled materials as you learn how
easy it is to repurpose those everyday
recyclable materials into a beautiful kite.

Thursday and Friday, April 18 & 19
Build your own special powered model airplane!
Use your model as a learning tool in aerospace education, or just have fun building a sound airplane
that actually flies when assembled. Have fun designing and building model bridges.
Join us in our bridge building contest to see which one can hold the most weight. Learn simple engineering skills.
Build 6 electronic projects. Some of them include a patrol car siren, burglar alarm and morse code transmitter.
You will learn how the different electronic components work.

DIVA PARTY II
Wednesday, April 17th
Have you ever wanted to fishtail a braid
or make the perfect messy bun? Do you love the new
magnetic nail polish? Diva Party II will teach some of the
trendiest braids and hairstyles. Kids will do nail art on
each other and work it like a Diva! (Each child will be
responsible for bringing her bag of hair supplies.)

Winter Ski & Snowboard Program
Brought to you by Wayland Recreation Department & Nashoba Valley
WHO: 3rd - 8th graders from HAPPY HOLLOW, CLAYPIT HILL, MIDDLE SCHOOL
WHEN: MONDAYS - 6 sessions Dates: Jan. 7, 14, 28, Feb. 4, 11, 25 (no class 1/21, 2/18)
Fees: $282 with ski or snowboard lesson $272 without lesson (Middle School only) $292 for race program
Please Note: There is a $60 non-refundable fee to guarantee buses. After Dec. 5 there can be no withdrawals or refunds.
Due to expense, buses must meet minimum at each school (40 students) in order to run.

PROGRAM INFORMATION
Children are picked up by bus from the two elementary schools and Wayland Middle School and driven to
Nashoba Valley Ski Area. There is only one bus from each school so be sure to sign up early. Parent/participant
Information Packet will be e-mailed in early December so be sure to include your e-mail address when registering.
When registering, please be careful when choosing school! Request snowboard, downhill, or racing when registering.

TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION: Buses pick up children at the Middle School at 2:25pm and Elementary
Schools at 3:05pm. All RETURN TO WAYLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL by 7:00pm. PLEASE BE PROMPT for pick up. There is no
skiing if school is cancelled or we have deteriorating road conditions at 11:45am. Call 508-358-7572 if in doubt.
For safety reasons, children misbehaving on buses will be asked to leave the program, and no refunds will be given.
LESSONS: All elementary students must take a lesson from 4:15pm - 5:15pm. Lessons are optional for middle schoolers.
RACING PROGRAM: available for students who have the ability to ski, stop and turn.
EQUIPMENT RENTAL FITTING
Wayland Town Building Hearing Room Tuesday, Dec. 4, 5:30pm to 6:30pm
NASHOBA VALLEY RENTAL SHOP staff will be at the Town Building Hearing Room to fit equipment. The rental fee for
skis and snowboards is $95 at the fitting. Please bring cash or check. They do not take credit cards. Helmets ($55)
available for purchase...limited supply. Any child not fitted on Dec. 4, MUST BE FITTED at the ski area before the start
of the program, and the yellow rental slip must be dropped off at the Recreation office by Fri., Dec. 14. A child will
not be able to ski the first day unless prior fitting rental arrangements have been made.
CHAPERONES
These programs are made possible in large part due to parent volunteers. Please consider being one of our
chaperones this year. Chaperones needed for all schools. Chaperones ski for FREE and get FREE rentals.

Wayland Children and Parents Association (WCPA)
Join the WCPA on Mondays for drop-in playgroup. This is a great

are free and open to the public so bring your friends and
introduce them to the WCPA.

This program is held at the Wayland Town Beach. In case of inclement weather, program is held at The Children’s
Way. Under the guidance of experienced, caring instructors, children enjoy exploration, music, story time, nature,
arts and crafts, beach play time and a recreational swim lesson. Bring a bathing suit, towel. (Snack provided).
Please pack your child a bag lunch . Beach tag is required and can be purchased at resident rate of $20 per child.

Kids will learn the foundation and basics of hip-hop
dance including age appropriate moves and music
from professional dance instructors. Each class will
include a stretch and conditioning warm-up, across the
floor dance technique, and a funky dance combination.

ARTISAN JEWELRY CLASS
Wednesday
Children will learn the art of jewelry design along with
jewelry casting using multi mediums. This class will be an
exciting and a one of kind experience for your child.
Each child will make one - two completed items per day.
Children are encouraged to explore their creativity and are
introduced to interesting color and texture while improving
hand eye coordination, small muscle development and
pattern making skills all in a relaxed, joyful environment.

SEWING DOLL CLOTHES - A BEAUTIFUL BALL GOWN
Monday
Dress up your doll with a full length gown made by you!
We will learn how to cut and sew puff sleeves and hemline
flounces. Girls can choose from silk or silk-like fabrics of taffeta,
crepe, or charmeuse. We will also create coordinating shoes to

JEDI ENGINEERING WITH LEGO
Friday
Young Jedi will explore worlds far, far away, and engineering
principles right in front of them. Defeat the Empire by designing and
refining X-Wings, R2-units, and settlements on far-flung edges of the
galaxy. Imagination and engineering combine to create motorized and
architectural LEGO projects such as energy catapults, shield generators,
and defense turrets. A new offering of original LEGO designs
for young Jedi from Play-Well TEKnologies. min 10/max 16

This is a high energy fusion of Barre exercises, sculpting and

Kindergarten children through Grade 5 are invited to shop at this fun annual event.
“Elves” will be on hand to assist the children with their shopping. Parents and
grandparents are invited to relax in the Holiday Shoppe café with complimentary
beverage and refreshments or browse the Café boutique tables. After shopping,
children will go to the gift wrapping department and then return to their families with
their wrapped holiday surprises! From the main parking lot, enter the Town Building to
attend the Shoppe through the decorated, doors on the far left – as if you were going to
the gym.
