In recent seasons the Cornwall RFU has been very successful in developing players in the
under 16 age groups. These players at post-16 have been faced with difficult choices. Often
they have left the county to continue with their rugby and their education. This joint initiative
between Truro College and SWERA (South West England Rugby Academy), in conjunction
with Exeter Chiefs, provides players with the opportunity of a first class education coupled
with first class Rugby Coaching, whilst staying in Cornwall.
Players will have ten hours per week of rugby related activities, which will include theory
sessions, coaching, video analysis, fitness sessions, skills work and weight training. An
extensive fixture list is played all over the Country at U18 and U19 levels.
Selected students will also be given the opportunity to follow the NVQ Advanced
Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE), a course designed particularly for students
who wish to pursue a career in rugby.
All players coming to Truro College who want to play rugby but do not want to join the
academy group are most welcome to do so.

In recent seasons the College has won the British Colleges Under 19 Knock-Out Cup,
South West 7s and 10s Champions which qualifies the team for the Nationals at
Loughborough University, South West Colleges League champions and Colleges League
champions. The highlight of the academy has been winning the 2009 Daily Mail Cup
at Twickenham. Over 500 teams entered the cup with Truro College Rugby beating St
Peters Gloucester in the final.
