CONSTITUTION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1.
Q. How are members of the Board of Control and Legislative Council selected?
A. Members of the Board of Control and of the Legislative Council are selected at the annual regional meetings in
the fall. Each school represented has one vote. The sites, dates, and times of these meetings are determined by
the Board of Control and posted on the TSSAA Calendar of Events.
2.
Q. How may a school charged with violating TSSAA regulations present its case?
A. The principal of the school may request the Executive Director to call a hearing in regard to the charges. Such
a hearing is held before the Executive Director and two or more Board of Control members representing the
Grand Division of the state in which the school is located.
3.
Q. May a decision made by the Executive Director be appealed to the Board of Control?
A. Yes.
4.
Q. What procedure is followed by a school that wishes to appeal to the Board of Control a decision of the
Executive Director?
A. The school principal should notify the Executive Director in writing that the principal wants the Board of Control
to review the case. If it is satisfactory to hold the review of the case at the next regular meeting of the Board of
Control, it will be listed on the agenda. If the case is of such nature that the school wants immediate action, the
principal should so indicate. The Executive Director will then communicate with the president of the Board who
will call a special session to consider the case. When such a special session of the Board is called, the school
requesting the special session shall pay all expenses of the meeting in the event the Board of Control sustains the
decisions of the Executive Director.
5.
Q. Does the Executive Director have a vote on matters that are presented to the Board of Control?
A. No. The Executive Director is not a member of the Board of Control and therefore can have no vote on matters
being considered by it.
6.
Q. May a member of the Board vote on a matter involving the school which he represents?
A. No. A member of the Board of Control cannot sit in on a case involving his/her own school.
