Tips for Successful Perming
CLEARIFYING HAIR
Prior to any chemical service, it is
recommended that you “clearify” hair by
removing any “build-up” from water
impurities, styling products, waxes, or
medications.
Procedure:
1. Shampoo hair with Scruples Hair
Clearifier Purifying Shampoo to
remove metals, minerals, and watersoluble
medications. Rinse and towel
blot.
2. “Clearify” hair with Scruples Hair
Clearifier Treatment to remove oils,
waxes, oil-soluble medications, and
“baked-on” styling products. Rinse and
towel blot.
3. Proceed with chemical service.
4. Use Scruples NO H2O2 (No Peroxide)
to neutralize peroxide residue in hair
after chemical service and
simultaneously condition hair. See
section on Post Perm Treatment.
PREPERM CONDITIONING
Some client’s hair should not be permed
without adequate professional or at-home
conditioning treatments prior to the perm
service.
If hair is spongy when wet or breaks easily
when dry: DO NOT PERM until hair has
been sufficiently conditioned and
strengthened so that, in your professional
opinion, it can be permed without
breakage.
If the hair is dry, porous, or lacks elasticity:
Precondition the hair with Scruples
Moisturex Intensive Moisturizing
Treatment.
If the hair is weak, thin, or lacks tensile
strength: Precondition the hair with
Scruples ER Emergency Repair For
Damaged Hair.
PREWRAP CONDITIONERS
On all types of hair (except resistant and
thick, coarse hair): The use of Scruples
Reconstruct Leave-In Instant Repair is
recommended as a prewrap to equalize
porosity and ensure even penetration of
the waving solution. Reconstruct will
not significantly alter the processing time
of the particular wave being used; simply
mist on hair prior to wrapping.
On fragile or weak hair: Scruples
recommends the use of ER Emergency
Repair For Damaged Hair mixed with
water (1 part ER with 6 parts water) as an
additional prewrap. This solution can be
sprayed onto hair while wrapping.
On dry, brittle ends: Scruples recommends
the use of Moisturex Intensive
Moisturizing Treatment as a prewrap
“spot-conditioner.” Use full strength and
apply sparingly to ends as needed while
wrapping perm.
On dry, bleached, or highlighted hair: Mix
equal parts of Moisturex Intensive
Moisturizing Treatment and ER
Emergency Repair For Damaged Hair with
6 parts water as a prewrap when hair
needs both moisture and strength. Spray
mixture on hair while wrapping.
POST PERM TREATMENT
Regardless of how much hair is shampooed
and rinsed following a salon chemical
treatment containing peroxide, a certain
amount of peroxide remains trapped in hair,
causing eventual dryness, color fade, and
erratic perm results. Scruples NO H2O2
(No Peroxide) chemically reacts with
peroxide residue and neutralizes it by
releasing one atom of oxygen within the
peroxide. Release of oxygen changes
peroxide (H2O2) into water (H2O). As a
result, a perm retains its curl with less
relaxation. Hydrolyzed wheat protein in NO
H2O2 (No Peroxide) also conditions hair
adding strength and pliability to all hair
types.
1. Perm and neutralize hair according
to directions.
2. Rinse and towel blot hair.
3. Spray NO H2O2 (No Peroxide) into hair
and comb blend.
4. After 3 - 5 minutes, rinse hair thoroughly,
towel blot and style as desired.
NOTE: Stop peroxide sting on hands with
NO H2O2 (No Peroxide). Spray on hands,
massage gently, and rinse thoroughly.
