Galliano man convicted of
selling cocaine from his home
A Galliano man who
was accused of selling cocaine
from his home was
convicted after a jury trial,
Tuesday, October 23.
Charles Jones, Jr., 39,
was accused of selling approximately
one gram of
crack cocaine to a confidential
informant on February
15, 2011.
The informant, working
with members of the
Lafourche Parish Drug Task
Force, entered the defendant’s
home and negotiated
the sale of the cocaine. The
transaction was captured
on video, which was shown
to the jury during the defendant’s
trial.
The two-day trial ended
after the jury deliberated for
just under an hour in
reaching their verdict.
“I appreciate the professionalism
that the Task
Force showed in the field
and in court,” said Assistant
District Attorney Rene’
Gautreaux, who prosecuted
the case.
The jury trial this week
was the second time Jones
faced trial on the same
charges, after a mistrial was
declared earlier this year
when a witness inadvertently
made reference to inadmissible
evidence.

Jones faces up to
thirty years in prison. However,
the District Attorney’s
Office is in the process of
obtaining records on possible
out-of-state convictions
which may increase Jones’
penalty range under the habitual
offender law.

Lockport man faces rape charges
A Lockport man was arrested
for the rape of a
woman from the South
Lafourche area. John Delatte
Jr., age 42, of 8874
Highway 308, was arrested
by detectives Thursday, October
25 th , following an investigation
into the incident.
Through an investigation,
detectives learned Delatte
had allegedly taken the
woman to his Lockport residence
Wednesday night
and forced her to have sexual
intercourse against her
will.
Through the course of
events, Delatte also committed
a battery on the woman
and damaged property as
well. The woman later reported
the incident to
deputies and disclosed this
was the second time Delatte
had forced her to have sexual
intercourse against her

legedly occurred about one
month prior.
Following an investigation
into the matter, detectives
obtained warrants and
arrested Delatte on Thursday.
He was transported to
the Lafourche Parish Detention
Center in Thibodaux
where he was booked on
two counts of simple rape,
simple battery and simple
criminal damage to property.
He is being held in lieu
of $102,000 as set by the
warrants.
