New Peripatetic Teachers
By Jaime Thistleton, Head of Music
Music to Our Ears!
By Gretta Funnell, Year 1 Leader
Setting off on our Science „Sound‟ trip to the Secondary
Campus, the Year One children had no idea of the musical
delights in store for them. On arrival, we were met by a group
of enthusiastic and musically talented Year 11 students who
took great pleasure in demonstrating a range of instruments to
us and explaining how the sounds are made.
Then it was time to become „hands on‟ and to explore a range
of musical instruments. Throughout the morning, we learned
how to play „Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star‟ on the keyboard,
became aspiring rock star drummers and created jungle
sounds on traditional Malaysian drums (kompangs).
Not only did we learn about how to create different sounds
and how to change the pitch and volume of the instruments,
we also had lots of fun too!
Many thanks to Mr Dixon, Head of Music at the Secondary
Campus and to his staff and students for making our trip so
memorable.
At Monday‟s assembly, all students were given a fantastic
opportunity to see the Music Department‟s new peripatetic
teachers in action. Performances were given on drums, violin,
cello, voice, piano, french horn, guitar and flute.
Beginning in Term 2, the Music Department will be offering
peripatetic lessons for these instruments and many more.
Please email jthistleton.jb@alice-smith.edu.my or see
Mrs Thistleton if you are interested in beginning peripatetic
lessons next term. We look forward to hearing from you.
