Atlas volumes with 66 mounted real photographs (1st volume), remainder phototypes. This rare work was issued in 26 parts<br />

and took 17 years to finish! It was published in a limited edition, and is one of the early scientific works making use of<br />

original photographs.<br />

This copy belonged to the biologist and malacologist Maurice Nicklès (1906-1980) as his name is stamped in gilt on the<br />

lower end of all spines and has a small name plate on the title-pages. Nicklès was predominantly active in Africa, and many<br />

know his ''Mollusques testacés marins de la cote occidentale d'Afrique'' published in 1950, which for a long time was the<br />

main source about West African molluscs.<br />
