much rarer than his treatement on ''Coquilles''.

Atlas volumes with 66 mounted real photographs (1st volume), remainder phototypes. This rare work was issued in 26 parts
and took 17 years to finish! It was published in a limited edition, and is one of the early scientific works making use of
original photographs.
This copy belonged to the biologist and malacologist Maurice Nicklès (1906-1980) as his name is stamped in gilt on the
lower end of all spines and has a small name plate on the title-pages. Nicklès was predominantly active in Africa, and many
know his ''Mollusques testacés marins de la cote occidentale d'Afrique'' published in 1950, which for a long time was the
main source about West African molluscs.
