2.2 Installation Under <strong>Windows</strong><br />

2.2.1 Machine Requirements<br />

• A Pentium or AMD computer or equivalent.<br />

• Operating System and Memory (RAM) requirements:<br />

– <strong>Windows</strong> NT4.0, SP6 IE4.0, 32 MB minimum 256 MB recommended.<br />

– <strong>Windows</strong> 2000, 64 MB minimum, 256 MB recommended.<br />

– <strong>Windows</strong> XP, 128 MB minimum, 256 MB recommended.<br />

• Minimum of 100 MB free hard disk space, more may be needed depending on <strong>the</strong> size of<br />

matrices and <strong>the</strong> complexity of <strong>the</strong> program.<br />

• Monthly defragmenting is recommended.<br />

2.2.2 Installation from Download<br />

Downloading<br />

Please note that files can only be downloaded via command line ftp, NOT through a browser<br />

(such as Netscape, Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.). You must use a command prompt window to<br />

download <strong>the</strong> files. To open a command prompt window, click on Start, <strong>the</strong>n Run, and type cmd.<br />

Note <strong>the</strong> directory that you are in; you may need to change to <strong>the</strong> directory where you wish to save<br />

<strong>the</strong> files. Use or make a directory for this that has no spaces in <strong>the</strong> title; <strong>the</strong>re can be problems<br />

saving <strong>the</strong> files to a directory such as C:\Documents and Settings or C:\Program Files<br />

because of <strong>the</strong> spaces.<br />

You must know <strong>the</strong> name of <strong>the</strong> files you wish to download. To download via command line ftp,<br />

first type <strong>the</strong> following at a command prompt:<br />
