Octuplet mother sparks harsh criticism

Everybody has a different dream of
what they want when they are grown
up; a big house, white picket fence,
and the perfect husband and kids. But when
can you say when that dream has gone a little
bit too far?
Recently a new story appeared on the
TV reporting that Nadya Suleman, a single
mother of six, gave birth to eight more children,
all of which were doing well after birth.
This story wasn’t very startling until more
of the circumstances about this mother of
14 came out.
First off, Suleman is not married and does
not have any signifi cant other in her life. She
lives with her mother, Angela Suleman, who
also helps take care of the kids. Suleman

Even when the United States is in
economic trouble spam is fl ying off
the shelves. Hormel Foods plant in
Minnesota has two shifts producing spam
seven days a week. “Spam seems to do well
when hard times hit,” explained Dan Bartel,
representative of the United Food and
Commercial Workers International Union.
The combination of pork, sugar, salt, water,
and potato starch was invented in the Great
Depression. Jay Hormel created spam when
he noticed that his father’s meat processing
plant was wasting pork shoulder. The twelve
ounce can of spam can last years without
refrigeration, and only costs $2.40.
Spam has been popular for a long time in
Hawaii, but not so much here in Wisconsin.
I would not be surprised if most VAHS
students have never tasted spam before,
but then again there are some adventurous
students here. Here in Verona students are
even unsure of its contents; “Isn’t it fi sh?”
asked Senior Stephanie Olson. Sophomore
Mike Brooks, who has eaten spam before,
responded that it “tasted kind of like tuna,
ham, bacon, and cheese and a little bit of

told CBS, “I was actually very upset that my
daughter had gone and done this in-vitro, but
after I saw them...I thought, ‘My goodness,
these are my grandchildren. They are so tiny
and fragile. I will have to be there for them
like I was there for the others.”’
Also, three of the six kids that Suleman
has at home are special needs kids. Special
needs kids require extra attention, help, and
assistance. Senior Leanne Schafer explained,
“The special need kids will become neglected
with the new editions to the family. It’s not
fair for them.”
Finally, the straw that broke the public’s
back is that it now appears that Suleman has
undergone plastic surgery to look more like
Angelina Jolie. Senior Nolan Lacy stated,

the thing you eat once a year to remind you
why you don’t eat it more often.”
If the economy does not turn for the better
anytime soon, then don’t worry. Spam can
be prepared in a variety of ways. Hormel

with the big lips and everything.” It seems
like all she wants from this situation is attention.
The sympathy that she was getting from
people slowly turned to anger and outrage.
Senior Janna Wise explained, “I think it’s a
very selfi sh and irresponsible action. She’s a
single mother, living with her mom... what
type of life or love is it to put your mother and
children through that kind of lifestyle?”
Although a lot of people don’t agree with
Suleman’s decision to have so many kids
under the circumstances she is in, ultimately
it is her decision and in some way, she sees
it as her American dream.

Sushi! People are cutting back and tightening
belts during these hard times and one of
the results may just be the success of spam.
So when you seniors graduate and are having
a rough time getting a job, you should look
into a career in spam.
