SCC exec honored for volunteerism

will be honored aa one of
the recipients of the annual
Mkhlgan'a Outstanding Volunteers
award.
Aginian, s Birmingham reaidant,
ia past president of the
Community House in Birmingham.
He will be recognised at a
luncheon Monday at the Hit*
Carlton in Dearborn by tbe National
Society of Fund Raiaing
Executives. •
Aginian said he believea that
everyone should give something
back to their community
through volunteer efforts.
"In tragedies, people always
pitch in but we've got to make it
a part of everyday life," Aginian
said.
He applauded such programs
aa the community service program
at the public schools thst
encourages young people to become
active participants in efforts
that improve their towns.
"People have got to make the
time to volunteer. You make
time for other things and thia
shouldn't be any different. Peo
pis have got to make the time to
devote to their communities and
give beck instead of take," Aginian
aaid.
Aginian heeded the expanaion
of Tbe Community House,
working with architects and
holding weekly planning meetings,
aa well aa overseeing the
fund-raising efforts that made
the new wing poeaible.
A member of tbe board of directors
for eight years, Aginian
served aa vice president in
charge of facilities during the
expension and then served sa
president of the board from 1990
to 1992.
Aginian has been preeident of
Suburbsn Communications
Corp. since 1977. He haa served
aa preeident of the trade aaaocistion
Suburban Newspapers of
America, served on the Governor's
Committee Michigan
Newspaper Recycling Taak
Force and on the board of directors
for Walsh Collage and the
Corporation for a Skilled Workforce.
He has served on tbe board of
