BLOEDBESMEERDE lyksakke en lyk
identiteitskaartjies is binne en bo-oor
‘n gebreekte kis op die "onwettige"
stortingsterrein in Modjadjiskloof
gevind.
Letaba Herald het verlede Woensdag
betroubaar verneem van dié insident te
Modjadjiskloof.
Insp. Kamedi Seshoka, media
woordvoerder vir die SAPD daar het
bevestig dat die afval deur ‘n bekende
begrafnisondernemer in die dorp dit
daar gestort het.
Die verweer is glo dat ‘n nuwe
werknemer nie geweet het dat dié
afval NIE op ‘n stortingsterrein gegooi
mag word nie, luidens Seshoka.
Die gru-fonds is in ‘n goedkoop kis
met bloedbesmeerde lyk sakke,
waarin lyke toegedraai word, sowel
as identiteitskaartjies, wat gewoonlik
aan die voete van oorledenes
aangebring word hetop die terrein
gelê en bak. Volgens inligting is die
stortingsterrein onwettig. maar bestaan
reeds sedert 2000.
Dit is naby die destydse Duiwelskloof
hospitaal en woonbuurte
geleë.
Volgens ‘n omgewings-gesondheid
woordvoerder moet ‘n stortingsterrein
omhein wees en beskik oor ‘n buffer
strook.
Dié terrein moet ook esteties
geselekteer word en geen gesondheids
risiko inhou nie, en vanselfsprekend
goed bestuur word.
Die Groter Letaba Munisipaliteit het
blykbaar, volgens ‘n betroubare bron
nie die nodige fondse vir ‘n ander
stortingsterrein in Modjajiskloof nie.
Die bron, wat anoniem wil bly het
aan Letaba Herald vertel dat hulle egter
verbaas was toe hulle in Desember,
verlede jaar teruggekeer het van
vakansie en opgemerk het dat die
biblioteek en ‘n parkie in die dorp en
nie die stortingsterrein, omhein is.
Die SAPD in Modjadjiskloof vermoed
dat dit ‘n gebruikte kis is, alhoewel
hy gebreek is. Hulle het ook
bevestig dat dit ‘n goedkoop een is en
dat die sakke wel lyke geakkommodeer
het.
Die identiteitskaartjies is ook die wat
aan lyke gebind word.
Plastiek handskoene is glo ook op
die toneel gevind, volgens insp.
Kamedi Seshoka. Die fonds is deur die
SAPD verwyder vir vernietiging.
Die GLM het ‘n kriminele saak
geopen vir die onwettige "rommel
strooing", volgens die polisie daar.
By verdere ondersoek het Letaba
Herald verneem dat alle mediese afval,
insluitende die fonds op die stortings
terrein deur Tshumisano dienste verbrand
word.
Dienste wat dié instansie bied is om
o.a gevaarlike en mediese afval te
kollekteer en dan te vervoer vir behandeling
en vernietiging daarvan.
Konsultering sessies en opleidings dienste
vir die bestuur, behandeling en
vernietiging van mediese afval.
Die Limpopo tak van die besigheid is
in Industria park Seshego te, Polok-
wane geleë.
Nkululeko Makhunga, bestuurder
daar het bevestig dat die meeste staats
hospitale en klinieke van hulle dienste
gebruik maak, insluitende Letaba, Van
Velden en Kgapane hospitale.
Nkululeko het gesê dat geen mediese
afval, of afval wat skadelik is vir
die omgewing op ‘n stortings terrein
gegooi mag word wat ‘n omgewings
risiko inhou nie.
‘n Persoon of instansie wat die wet
op omgewingsbewaring, seksie 19
breek, staar ‘n boete van tot R5 miljoen
rand of 10 jaar tronkstraf in die
sig, volgens Nhululeko.
Volgens inligting kan persone wat
in aanraking kom met lyke of vloeistof
daarvan, maagderm infeksies of
bloed virusse soos byvoorbeeld Hepatitis
kan opdoen.
TB is ook nie uitgesluit nie, indien
dié bakterieë van die longe of die
vloeistof van die mond of neus soos
wat die lyk beweeg word in die lug
losgelaat word. Ander siektes wat
opgedoen kan word indien gevaarlike
afval op ‘n stortingsterrein gegooi
word, is: gangerene, melaatsheid of
klem-in-die-kaak.
Rotte, voëls, vlooie en vlieë wat teer
op die afval kan ook bakterieë na die
gemeenskap versprei.
In gunstige toestande kan mikro organismis
binne 20 minute verdubbel.
Toksiese gif wat in die grond insypel
kan ook drinkwater besoedel wat bv tot
Cholera kan lei.
Volgens ‘n regskenner staar die oortreder
moontlik drie strafregtelike
klagte in die sig nl: die misbruik van ‘n
stortings terrein, onwettige stroing van
gevaarlike afval asook ‘n klag wat
indring teen die lug kwaliteits wet kan
moontlik ook van toepassing wees.
ANC vier vryspraak
ANC ondersteuners wat Maandag in hulle vreugde verdrink het oor
hulle leier Jacob Zuma se nuutgevonde vryheid by die skougronde.

‘n SKYNBAAR onwettige saamtrek van ANC
ondersteuners het Maandag aand by die
skougronde talle inwoners woedend.
Tussen vyf en sewe duisend ANC ondersteuners
het die skougronde beset en dit o.a
onmoontlik gemaak vir die Letaba rugby klub
se oefen sessie.
Volgens ‘n betroubare bron het Patrick
Tswala, sekretaris van O.J. Muswana, burgermeester
van die GTM, die skou gronde
omstreeks 12:00 geskakel. Daar is gereël vir ‘n
"Noodsaaklike burgermeester vergadering,"
vir ongeveer twee tot drie honderd persone in
skousaal B.
Dié vergadering sou om streeks 14:00 begin.
Om 14:30 is die skoukantoor ingelig dat die
vergadering "bietjie later" sou begin.
Ongeveer 19:00 die aand blyk die noodvergadering
een groot makietie te wees.
Letaba Herald het Maandag aand die
saamtrek aanskou.
Daar was nabewering ongeveer 2000 voertuie
op die terrein en tussen vyf en sewe
duisend persone teenwoordig.
Alkohol was in oorvloed beskikbaar en was
glo gratis.
Die alkohol is blykbaar deur privaat besigheids
persone by ‘n bekende drankwinkel
in Tzaneen aangekoop.

Die bekende "Umshiniwam", (Bring my
masjiengeweer,) lied het luid deur luidsprekers
gespeel tydens die saamtrek. Zuma se
ondersteuners het hulle in hul leier se nuutgevonde
vryheid verlustig en goed gevier.
Die GTM se skoonmakers was reeds vroeg
Dinsdag oggend besig om op te ruim.
Die saal wat bespreek was vir die noodvergadering
is so te sê onaangeraak.
Honderde vol streepsakke het getuig van die
partytjie wat omstreeks 03:00 die oggend ten
einde geloop het.
Een SAPD lid wat teenwoordig was buite die
skou-terrein het bevestig dat hulle nie bewus
was van die saamtrek nie. Volgens wet moet
die SAPD, geleenthede waar meer as 1 000
persone is, teenwoordig wees.
Kapt. Shikwambana, woordvoerder van die
SAPD was nie beskikbaar vir kommentaar
nie.
Daar is bevestig dat motors op die rugby
veld gery het. Glasstukke is op ‘n groot deel
gestrooi.
Gerugte doen ook die ronde dat die ablusie
geriewe beskadig is.
Op ‘n ligte trant, met aanloop na die verkiesing:
Letaba rugby klub het nog nooit soveel
toeskouers teenwoordig gehad tydens hulle
oefen sessies nie.
Daar is tussen die twee partye ooreengekom
om die rugby veld in twee te deel.
Een helfte vir bloed sweet en die ander vir
die skynbaar onwettige makietie.

DIE drom gif wat deur ‘n inwoner van Tzaneen in die Tzaneendam
gevind is.
Drom gif in dam
CHOLERA in die drinkwater is
dalk ‘n baie ernstige saak, en daar
word baie aandag aan gegee,
maar wat gebeur as die Tzaneendam
met gif besoedel word?
‘n Inwoner van Tzaneen het
gedurende ‘n rustige vaart op die
Tzaneendam nie verwag om ‘n
groot drom gif in die dam te vind
nie, maar dit is presies wat gebeur
het.
Met ‘n prent van ‘n groot kopbeen
op die drom, was dit duidelik
dat dit op ‘n tyd vol gif was. By
nadere ondersoek het die inwoner
egter besef dat die drom steeds gif
bevat.
Wat nou gemaak?
In só situasie kan enige lid van
die gemeenskap die besoedelingsafdeling
van die munisipaliteit
skakel.

Lenyenye mourns the death of its beloved
granny
Residents of Lenyenye township bid farewell
to their beloved granny in a unique style on
S a t u r d a y.
Koko B.I.C, as the deceased Maria Molatelo
was known in the community, died after a short
illness last week. She was 91 old.
Family members said she had an 'attack' in
her sleep and died on her way to hospital.
It is said that before she died, the old lady,
who used to laugh and share jokes with
everyone, told her children how her funeral
should be run. "People must be treated equally
on the day of my funeral," she told them.
She also emphasized that after her burial,
people should celebrate the life and times of
B.I.C and that they should be served according
to her wishes.
Koko B.I.C used to brew homemade
sorghum beer, to maintain her family. Her
customers that attended the funeral were
served homemade beer and a goat was
slaughtered as a farewell to them.
"I still recall when B.I.C was still alive. She
used to admire the coming together of people
during funerals and other celebrations," said
her granddaughter, Tiny Sedibe.
This type of celebration is mostly called
"After tears" in the township, but it is said that
the old lady would call it "Tata tears" and have
everyone in stitches.
Koko B.I.C leaves behind four children, 21
grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 13
great-great-grandchildren. The community’s favourite granny, Koko B.I.C, laid to rest.

Letaba Hospitaal wou Hedin nie
opneem nie en Mankweng Hospitaal
het gesê hulle is vol. Beide die hospitale
het ook gesê dat hulle nie dok-
ters het nie.
Terug by Tzaneen Medi-Clinic was
die dokters baie sinies. Om met Hedin
se tipe breuk vir langer as ses ure
sonder behandeling te gaan, sou beslis
in amputasie geëindig het.
Hedin se staatmaker-vriende het intussen
begin skarrel en R31 000 bymekaar
gemaak.
Geld het van oral gekom - selfs van
nie-Tzaneeners wat hom nie eens ken
nie.
Dr Alex Revelas was in beheer van
Hedin se operasie. Hy het ook besef
dat daar dadelik iets aan Hedin se
enkel gedoen moes word.
As laaste uitweg het Dr Revelas
besluit om Hedin se enkel te herposisioneer
om sodoende dalk die
enkel nader aan sy oorspronklike posisie
te kry. Die doel van die operasie
sou wees om penne in Hedin se been
en enkel te sit.
Hedin se vriende het bly bid.
Na X-strale het Dr Revelas verduidelik
dat ‘n ware wonderwerk gebeur
het.
Met die pynlike regskuif van sy enkel,
het die gebreekte bene weer presies
oor mekaar geskuif.
‘n Operasie was agv die suksesvolle
herposisionering gladnie meer nodig
nie.
Hedin moet egter vir ses weke van sy
voet af bly, en mag glad nie rugby vir
die res van die jaar speel nie, maar hy
bly dankbaar.
Hy glo dat ‘n wonderwerk gebeur
het, en dat sy vriende se gebede sy voet
gered het.
Hy wil spesiaal dankie sê aan Bobby
en Claudy, en aan almal wat hom
ondersteun het.
Die geld wat ingesamel is word nou
aan almal teruggegee, en Hedin se
hele familie borrel van dankbaarheid.

vote on election date, April 22.
To apply for a special vote in the upcoming
2009 National and Provincial elections, it is a
prerequisite that you must be a registered voter
and you must be in a possession of a green
bar-coded identity document or a valid temporary
identity certificate.
Your details must be on the National Voter's
Roll where you ordinarily reside in South
Africa.
To verify your details, phone the toll free
number on 0800 11 8000, or send an SMS with
your ID Number to 32810.
Persons can apply for a special vote if they
are physically not capable to go to the voting
station on Election Day, have a disability or is
pregnant:
1) If due to physical infirmity, disability or
pregnancy you are unable to vote at your
voting station in the voting district where you
are registered on Election Day, you can apply
for a special vote and if it is approved, you will
be visited at the place where you are confined
due to your condition.
2) You must apply for a special vote by
completing a VEC1 form; please note that the
IEC will not automatically visit places where a
person may be confined such as hospitals.
Persons must apply for a special vote.
3) If the place where you must be visited is in
the same voting district where you are registered,
you must deliver or send your ap-
plication form (VEC1 form) to the following:
a) Your IEC Municipal Electoral Office that is
responsible for your voting district between 1
April 2009 and 14 April 2009. The Municipal
Electoral Office will then forward your application
to the presiding officer of your voting
station.
b) or directly to the office of the presiding
officer of your voting station on 20 April
2009.
The Office of the Presiding Officer will be
situated at or close to your voting station.
4) If the place where you must be visited is
not in the municipality where your voting
districts is, you must deliver or send your
application form (VEC1 form) to the IEC Municipal

who will then send your application to the
presiding officer of the voting district where
you need to be visited;

was saam met haar in die motor.
Snyders vertel dat ‘n onbekende voorwerp,
vermoedelik ‘n vonkprop vanuit nêrens, die
passasierskant se ruit getref het.
Aanvanklik het sy gedink dis ‘n band van die
motor wat gebars het.
"Ek het eweskielik net glas teen my gesig

THE Minister of Agriculture and Land
Affairs, Lulama Xingwana, handed
back 5113 hectares of land to the
Makgoba Community at a total cost of
R104 million to the state .
The handing-over ceremony was
held at Magoebaskloof last Saturday.
The land, restored to the Makgoba
community, comprises of both private
and state owned properties currently
being used for a range of profitable
activities, such as commercial timber
production, aquaculture, tourism and
leisure activities, as well as commercial
agriculture, which include
the production of mangoes, avocados
and macadamia nuts.
Speaking during the handing-over
ceremony, Minister Xingwana said
the government has approved development
grants of R26 million for
development of the land.
She said settlement of the Makgoba
claim will benefit
603 households involvingapproximately
1087 individuals.

The land borders interesting places,
such as the Modjadji area famously
known for its rain queen Modjadji.
The Makgoba claim was lodged by
Kgoshi Mokopa Garibaldi Makgoba
and Frederick Tsheoga on behalf of
the Makgoba community, and the two
claims were consolidated into one.
The Makgoba people were gradually
removed from their ancestral land
between 1924 and 1974. They settled
in various areas such as Hammanskraal,
Malepisi around Lebowakgomo,
Ga Modjadji, Ga Mathabata,
Ga Molepo, Makweng, as well
as other areas within the province.
GLM budget:

The Greater Letaba Municipality
is planning to spend 35% of its
total draft budget of R145 282
106 on infrastructure
development projects in the
coming year.
During the special council
meeting in Sekgosese last week,
the Mayor of Greater Letaba,
Councillor Joshua Matlou ,said
the municipality plans to spend
a large part of the R47 433 118 of
its next capital budget on street
lights in crime hot spots.
Matlou said street lights will go
up in Lebaka, Phaphadi,
Mamphakgathi and Sekgosese
villages, and more street lights
will be installed in GaKgapane
township.
He added that, before the end of
this financial year, two Apollo
street lights will be installed at
Maphalle village, one at
Mokgoba settlement, and
another one at Ga-Kgapane
extension 7 in an effort to reduce
crime.
"Our aim is to create a safer
living environment for the
communities for Greater
Letaba," he said.

Radiokansel, will be visiting the youth of
Tzaneen very soon.
This accomplished musician, who is dedicated
to bringing "the Word of God" to all, has
released several CD’s, and helped with two of
Jan de Wet’s "Loflaaitie" CD’s.
Join Krog at the Tzaneen-Wolkberg Church
on Friday, May 29.
All nursery schools and playgroups are

DA councillour, René Pohl of Modjadjiskloof
writes;
A special council meeting took place on March
31.
According to the agenda the meeting would
commence at 15:00 at the Modjadjiskloof
council chambers.
A notice requested all councillours to be
there at 14:00 for a SARS presentation. Upon
my arrival at 13:45, no one was to be found.
My DA collegue phoned, informing me that the
meeting was to take place at Etikeleng Village.
Two tents were erected. More than 8 busses
of ANC members were transported to the
so-called "community awareness and participation
of how a council meeting is conducted.
The meeting only started afther 16:00. There
is a clear distinction between the state and the
municipality. Municipal funds may not be used
for ANC campaigning.
As expected, many promises were made and
food distributred. The media as well as security
police were present.
According to the draft budget the total income
ofthen operating revenue of R
145,282,106 million, only R 7, 126, 526 will
go towards maintenance and repairs.
The Modjadjiskloof pump station as well as
the switchgear is in a very bad state and only
one pump and motor is functioning!
There are 26 wards in Letaba. Only R 5, 446,
249 million is allowed for water, and R 6, 244,
560 for electricity.

must conduct its business in an open manner,
and 152(d) to promote a safe and healty
enviroment, (dumpsite).

involved in council activities to hold them
accountable.

complaints, needs and concerns can be tabled

Community Awards Programme
officially open for entries
The 2009 Jet Community Awards Programme
is officially open for entries from South Africa,
Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland
with more than R1 million in prize money up
for grabs by local community heroes.
For the past six years, the Jet Community
Awards has been celebrating the extraordinary
achievements of ordinary citizens within impoverished
communities from across Southern
Africa. Representing retail brand Jet’s flagship
community upliftment programme, the annual
Jet Community Awards aim to reward those
individuals or organisations who give selflessly
of their time, energy and talents to build
and empower vulnerable individuals in their
local communities.
Since the Awards launched in 2003, Jet has
received thousands of entries, and awarded
almost R4 million in prize money to 32 overall
winners. Last year the R1 million prize money
was shared amongst 36 regional winners and
seven national winners. The 2008 winners
include a crèche from Klerksdorp; a community
care organisation from Namibia; a
children’s disability centre from Soweto; a
community trading store and tuck shop in
Francistown, Botswana; a tourism and cultural
centre in Bergville, Kwazulu Natal; a community
IT and office support centre in Ha-Matlatla,
Limpopo Province; and a grass roots
environmental waste management programme
in Bonteheuwel, Western Cape.

is all about family, and as a family

women, youths and in small enterprises; and

those committed to reducing or eliminating

101 DALMATIANS might seem like a lot for
one movie, but imagine 101 babies in one
ward.
Tzaneen Medi-Clinic delivered a record-breaking
101 babies during the month
of March. Never having delivered more than
a hundred babies over a period of one month,
Medi-Clinic literally had their hands full.
The nursing staff is very proud of this
record, and the hard work they put into the
special care they give each baby.

ATKV koop sewende oord aan
DIE Afrikaanse Taal- en Kultuurvereniging neem van 1
April 2009 die Eiland Spa naby Tzaneen in die
Limpopo-provinsie in gebruik. Dit is die sewende selfsorgvakansie-
en konferensieoord van die ATKV-groep.
Aan die suidekant van die Letabarivier, 68 kilometer oos
van Tzaneen, is die ATKV- Eiland Spa Vakansieoord
geleë.
Volgens Tommie du Plessis, die nuwe oordbestuurder is
"hierdie oord 'n diamant in die Laeveld wat omring is deur
die pragtige natuurskoon van die Hans Merensky-natuurreservaat
- dis ideaal vir voëlkykers en almal wat lief is vir
die Bosveld met sy luiperds, seekoeie, renosters en
bokke".
ATKV-Eiland Spa is in 'n omgewing met 'n tropiese
klimaat en is sowat 120 kilometer van die Phalaborwa-hek
van die Nasionale Krugerpark.
Dit maak dit maklik om 'n dagrit deur die wildtuin te
neem en weer teen skemer by die oord te wees om 'n
braaivleisvuur aan te steek.
Die oord bied 'n verskeidenheid van twee- en
driesterakkommodasie. Hierdie akkommodasie bestaan
uit 103 lugversorgde rondawels, elk met sy eie badkamer,

THE Westfalia marathon was once again a
great success, according to Timothy Nkuna,
Chairperson of the Tzaneen Marathon Club.
Unfortunately, Godfrey Kwati, one of the
athletes, started suffering from severe heart
pains during the marathon. He was taken to
the Tzaneen Medi-Clinic, where they discovered
that a vein in his heart had burst.
Kwati was transferred to Wilgers hospital in
Pretoria. He returned home on Thursday.
Timothy would like to thank all who helped
Kwati, as well as Tzaneen Medi-Clinic.
Timothy urges all athletes to listen to their
body when participating in marathons.
The Loskop Marathon is taking place in two
weeks time.

fietsry en weer 1km hardloop. Johan en
Vernon(jnr) Harms het hul goed van hul taak
gekwyt met Telanie van Renen die eerste
meisie O/10.

DIARISE Saturday June 13 2009 when the
George’s Valley 4X4 weekend takes place.
More excitement will be in the order of the
day with a brand new exciting route to test
your off road capabilities.
As before, the route will start and end at the
Hub.
New entertainment will be in the order of
the day with the performance of Gappie who is
replacing the well-known Clint Cunningham.
Gappie comes highly recommended and
tickets for his show will be available from the

their Limpopo mixed pairs title
successfully against the best the

onlangse rugbyfees gewen.
CLINTON van der Merwe, senter vir die
Mopani rugbyspan, wat hul wedstryd teen
Vhembe by die onlangse rugbyfees gewen het.
Van der Merwe is aangewys as speler van die
wedstryd.
Mountainbike Challenge
THE third annual Turbi Hills Mountainbike
Challenge will take place on May 9 at Ridgeway
Independent School in Louis Trichardt.
The race is presented by the Turbi Hills
Shellhole of Louis Trichardt to raise funds for
local charities in the area.
There will be three race options, namely: 60
km marathon, 30 km half marathon and a 10
km fun ride.

Rugbyfees ook reünie vir oud-spelers
DIE ONLANGSE rugbydag by Merensky, die grootste in die geskiedenis, was ook ‘n reünie vir
oud-spelers en bestuurslede van Tzaneen en Letaba Rugbyklubs. Op die foto is van die spelers
wat die geleentheid bygewoon het. Voor sit Dippies de Beer, Thinus Nel en James Tolmay. Agter
staan van links Neville Smith, Derek Lategan, Karel de Beer, Johan de Pradines, Stoffel Vermaak,
Gawie du Plessis, Jaco Erasmus, Piet Faul, Robert Botes, Willie du Plessis, Peet Botes en
Johannes du Plessis. Van die ander oud-bekendes was ook AB van der Westhuizen, Frans
Barnard en Johan Steyn.

Rugbyliga begin
na Paasnaweek
VANJAAR se rugbyliga begin amptelik volgende
Saterdag (na die Paasnaweek) en al die
rugbyklubs in die omgewing sal dan in aksie
wees.
Letaba Rugbyklub, die enigste plaaslike klub
in die Superliga en vanjaar se Driedrukkampioene,
speel in sy eerste bepaling teen Polokwane
op Tzaneen.
Dit gaan ‘n groot toets vir die tuisspan wees
en sal ‘n goeie aanduiding wees van hoe die
klub vanjaar in die groot geselskap van die liga
gaan vaar.
Phalaborwa, Bosveld en Duiwelskloof speel
in die Seniorliga en hulle eerste bepalings vir
18 April is soos volg:

Duiwelskloof speel in sy eerste ligawedstryd
op sy tuisveld teen Louis Trichardt. Duiwels -
kloof verras bykans elke jaar met sy vertonings
en vanjaar behoort geen uitsondering
te wees nie.
Duiwelskloof het goed gelyk in die Driedruk
en die klub se vier strawwe wedstryde vroeg in
die seisoen behoort handig te pas te kom in die
kragmeting met Louis Trichardt.

Twee spanne wen Limpopo-liga
die media berig is het die klub verlede jaar met
'n sosiale liga begin wat vir groot pret en
opgewondenheid gesorg het. Almal se
muurbal het daarby baat gevind en heelwat
v e r b e t e r.
Die klub het ook hulle fasiliteite opgegradeer
tot een van die bestes in die provinsie. Dit is
voorwaar 'n voorreg om sulke fasiliteite in
Tzaneen te hê.
Daar word 'n beroep op alle belangstellendes
gedoen wat wil deel in die opwinding
om sommer vandag nog vir Jenke Nagel by
(015) 307-7585 te skakel om aan te sluit.
Die nuwe sosiale liga het nou maar net
begin. Gaan sluit aan en leer sommer gou 'n
gawe klomp sportmanne ken. 'n Laaste beroep
word op ons jongmense en vroue gedoen, gaan
sluit asb aan, die klub het julle nodig.
