VARIOFACE DeltaV Quick Cabling Solution 

1. Description 

The I/O modules of the DeltaV controller come with 

either conventional screw connections or the so- 

called "Mass Termination Blocks" that offer quick 

and secure connection with ribbon cable. 

Phoenix Contact, a member in the Emerson Process 

Management Alliance Program, offers components 

such as cables and DIN-Rail-mounted modules that 

come pre-assembled and pre-tested for installation Emerson DeltaV 16-Pin Mass Termination Block 

on the DeltaV. All components have been testet and 

approved by Emerson Process Management. 

Depending on module, the "Mass Termination Blocks" 

come in the following configuration 

- 10-pin ribbon cable mass terminal block, 

- 16-pin ribbon cable mass terminal block, 

- 24-pin ribbon cable mass terminal block 

- 40-pin (two 20-pin) ribbon cable mass 

terminal block.

3.6 VARIOFACE Motherboards for 

Accommodation of 3-Wire Measuring 

Transducers 

The universal module carriers (motherboards) have 8 

electronic bases, grouped together on a motherboard 

in a sturdy PC board base, to accept and contact the 

pluggable PI function modules. On the system side, 

the signal lines are connected to a 16 pin ribbon cable 

connector to connect via system cables the 16 pin 

DeltaV mass termination blocks. 

The motherboard UM122-FLK16/EX-MB/8 is used for 

the PI-Ex function modules. 

The motherboard UM122-FLK16/MB/8 is used for the 

PI-non-Ex function modules.

3.9 VARIOFACE V8 adapter for 

6.2 mm PLC Relay terminals (1 PDT) 

These adapters have been specially designed for 

coupling to the 16-pin and 40-pin Mass Termination 

Blocks. 

The PLC-V8 adapter is simply inserted in the 

jumper slots of eight 6.2 mm PLC INTERFACE 

modules mounted side by side. No additional tools are 

required. This results in an 8-channel relay or 

optocoupler module with a width of less than 50 mm. 

The insertion of electromechanical or solid-state 

relays can be freely selected for each channel.

3.11 Universal PLC series with PDT relay 

equipped with pluggable power contact

The PLC-R...21 is a relay series, that can be used 

universally and consists of basic terminal blocks and 

pluggable miniature relays with PDT contact. 

– Functional plug-in bridges 

– Screw connection and spring-cage connection 

system – naturally with the same shape 

– Input or output interface. 

In the standard version, the PLC relays are supplied 

equipped with relay. An input circuit –consisting of a 

status display, free-wheeling and reverse polarity 

protection function – is integrated in the module. 

PLC-R... is equipped with a robust miniature relay. Its 

main features include: 

– IP67 protection 

– Environmentally friendly, cadmium-free contact 

material 

The relay is securely fastened using an engagement 

lever. Should it become worn, it can be disengaged, 

and – without disconnecting the wiring – can be 

replaced quickly and economically.

The PLC-R...21 is a relay series, that can be used 

universally and consists of basic terminal blocks and 

pluggable miniature relays with PDT contact. 

– Functional plug-in bridges 

– Screw connection and spring-cage connection 

system – naturally with the same shape 

– Input or output interface. 

In the standard version, the PLC relays are supplied 

equipped with relay. An input circuit –consisting of a 

status display, free-wheeling and reverse polarity 

protection function – is integrated in the module. 

PLC-R... is equipped with a robust miniature relay. Its 

main features include: 

– IP67 protection 

– Environmentally friendly, cadmium-free contact 

material 

The relay is securely fastened using an engagement 

lever. Should it become worn, it can be disengaged, 

and – without disconnecting the wiring – can be 

replaced quickly and economically.

Termination Blocks 

This 32 channel module converts the changeable 

resistance of a NAMUR sensor unit into a digital 

signal that can be read by the 32 channel dry contact 

input card. In addition, the electronics unit monitors 

the sensor side for short circuit or line breakage and 

reports this error via an integrated LED. 

Due to a corresponding resistance circuit, the module 

can be used to monitor all mechanical switches 

(N/C contact or N/O contact) for short circuits 

and/or wire break.
