What you need:
Sturdy shoes, water, provisions, swimsuits
depending on the season.
Duration: 2.5 hours
Category: Easy
Start at the far end of the village of
Kamara. On the right-hand side of the
main road, before the ridge, you will
see a multimedia shop.
Opposite an unpaved road leads off
at right angles uphill. Follow this road
to the “Chapel of Panagia Eleousia” at
the junction. Here you can choose to
hike up to Memigaria via the path on
the left and enjoy the wonderful view
over the island.
Alternatively, you can take the path on
the right which will lead you along the
foot of the mountain range to the chapel
of “Agios Nikolaos” in the valley.
This beach is ideal for a short break.
An unpaved road then leads you
along behind the beach, following the
wide arc of the coastline.
The turquoise-blue sea and beautiful
Bay of Gourna on the right and the
mountain on your left lend this route a
special charm of it´s own. After many
twists and turns, you will reach a secluded
bay with the “Chapel of Agios
Isodhoros” at the far end.
A 50 m. causeway leads across the
clear, shallow water to this little gem
of a chapel perched on the rocks. In
rough seas, however, it is not accessible.
After your visit, keep to your right as you
walk back, until you reach the small
settlement of Kokkali. A secondary
road meanders through the agricultural
fields and vegetable gardens
back to the main road from Alinda to
Partheni.
CULTURAL TIP:
The Chapel
Agios
Isodhoros
This chapel was built in 1892 on a rocky
promontory just above sea level.
In addition to the church, the remains
of an ancient temple have also been
uncovered at this site. The chapel´s
unique location is reminiscent of Vlacherna
Monastery on Corfu.
