New ways to join the profession First pathway in 10 years launched RICS launched its first new pathway in almost 10 years in January 2012. Developed in response to market feedback and member pathway available across all chartered routes to membership. AssocRICS RICS’ newest qualification provides an opportunity for those without a degree who have relevant work experience to become an RICS Associate – AssocRICS. We launched a new pathway for Land for Associate membership in June. The pathway is for candidates working in the environmental, minerals and waste management, planning and development, and rural sectors. A new real estate agency pathway was also launched, covering commercial, residential and mixed use properties, for countries where there are currently no established qualifications in this area of the property profession. The Associate grade of membership launched in Oceania and the Americas in October 2011. Professional Experience Route The new professional experience route to membership launched globally in October 2011 following a six month pilot with firms offers experienced property professionals the opportunity to gain recognition and enhanced status with a world class professional qualification. By the end of the year professional experience route rate – 12% higher than the average for other routes to membership. Promotional and development work for the route is underway Malaysia and Thailand with assessor training in these countries in the pipeline. RICS Fellowship The new fellowship scheme was launched at the beginning of April. The new, simplified system sets out 17 characteristics that RICS expects to see from someone aiming to become a Fellow of RICS. Evolving DRS Our dispute resolution services (DRS) gained success in Oceania. DRS now operate in every state and territory in Australia after the Deputy Premier of South Australia approved our application to appoint adjudicators under the South Australia security of payment legislation. RICS is the only alternative dispute resolution (ADR) provider to have national authority to appoint adjudicators.
