n February 2004 Mrs. Christiane E. Oldendorff, our
Chairman & Managing Director, took the opportunity of the
favourable market conditions to sign with STX shipyard of South
Korea, a contract to build 2 + 2 optional, 3500 teu gearless container
vessels for delivery in the middle of 2007.
At the initial signing stage, she signed for 2 vessels to be
built. The signing ceremony was carried out on the 28th of
February 2004 at Villa ‘NORD' here in Limassol Cyprus.
When Mrs. Oldendorff visited the HHI yard in Ulsan on
the 6th of May, to take delivery of NORDMERKUR, the last of
our four 'Planets' Panamax product carriers, she took the
opportunity to travel across to the STX yard and sign for the 2
optional vessels which now will be delivered in the first half of
2008.
STX has fast grown to be a reputable yard and now stands
at number 6 among the ship building yards in the world. They
build a variety of vessels from Containers, Bulk Carriers, Tankers
(products and crude) and pure Car Carriers as well. We are
looking forward to these new buildings, which no doubt will be
of a very good quality.
