2 - THE BOOK OF BELIEF (i.e. FAITH) II - 87<br />

J: I gave III-Bai'ãh (pledge) to Allah's<br />

Messenger for the following:<br />

1. Iqamat-as-$aIat [to perform the (compulsory<br />

congregational) Salat (prayers)].<br />

2. To pay the Zakdt<br />

3. And to he sincere and true to every<br />

Muslim [i.e.. to order them for At'-<br />

Ma'rüf: (i.e.. Islamic Monotheism, and<br />

all that Islam orders one to do), and to<br />

forbid them the .41-Munkar (i.e.,<br />

disbelief, polytheism of all kinds, and all<br />

that Islam has forbidden), to help them<br />

and to be merciful and kind to them.<br />

58. Narrated Ziyad bin Aaqa i :<br />

heard Jarir bin Abdullãh _L<br />

(praising Allah -) on the day when<br />

A1-Mugira bin Shuba died, he (Jarir) got<br />

up (on the pulpit) and thanked and praised<br />

Allah and said, "Be afraid of Allah<br />

j Alone. Who has none along with<br />

Him to be worshipped. (You should) he calm<br />

and quiet till the (new) chief comes to you<br />

and he will come to you soon. Ask Allah's<br />

forgiveness for your (late) chief because he<br />

himself loved to forgive others." Jarir added,<br />

"Ammã ba du (then after), I came to the<br />

Prophet . and said, '0 Allah's Messenger! I<br />

give my Baiãh (pledge) to you for Islam.'<br />

The Prophet conditioned (my pledge) for<br />

me to be sincere and true to every Muslim<br />

i.e. to order them for the AI-Madf [i.e..<br />

Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders<br />

one to do, and to forbid them from the .1/-<br />

Munkar (i.e., disbelief, polytheism of all<br />

kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden), and<br />

to help them, and to be merciful and kind to<br />

them etc.], so I gave my pledge to him for<br />

this. By the Lord of this mosque! I am sincere<br />

and true to you (Muslims)<br />

Then Jarir asked for Allah's forgiveness<br />

and came down (from the pulpit).<br />
