Band Camp
During the Easter Holidays music
teacher Mr White and Extended
Services Co-ordinator Mrs Lima ran a 2
day Band Camp for Year 5 and Year 6
Primary School children.
The theme was 'World Music' with the
children learning Samba Drumming and
Brazilian Carnival Rhythms on day 1
and Reggae on day 2.
The camp was a great success and the
feedback included these comments
from the primary students:
"It was the most fun I ever had,"
"It has helped me understand about
different instruments in different
countries," and "The Manor School is
very cool and I think they are five star."
Community News
Family Learning Club
An after school Family Learning Club for Year 7 students and their families was organised at The Manor School by the Community
Leader. The aim of the club was to develop family learning across three areas – English, Maths and the Virtual Learning
Environment (VLE) – as well as to help parents understand what their child was learning in the curriculum and experience different
teaching styles. Parents particularly found that their knowledge and understanding of the subject areas had improved as well as
the support they were able to give their child with homework. As one Mum said ‘ my son has already had homework that
coincides with work done at the club so found it a lot easier.’
Adult Maths Functional Skills Course
The Manor School achieved a first with the organisation of an adult Maths Level 2 functional skills course. Over the course of 9
weeks the willing candidates attended Maths lessons, refreshed themselves on their own maths skills and understanding and had
a go at trial papers. Eight people sat the new Edexcel on line assessment - a first in the country for parents of future students who
will sit the functional skills maths exam.
Adult Learning Courses
The Manor School has run a variety of adult learning courses which have been very successful. Courses have included
beginners’ sign language, computer skills, sports leadership, food hygiene and OCN entry level sign language. A programme of
courses will be organised for the Autumn Term starting in September and will include a variety of computer courses. Full details
will be available early September on the school web site and on the parent portal of the VLE. Further information is available from
