Raising the Grade<br />
A group of 21 students and accompanying Maths teachers attended the 'Raising the Grade Maths Conference' at<br />
Nottingham Trent University on Monday 4th April. <strong>The</strong> aim of the day was to boost the GCSE Maths performance of<br />
attending students.<br />
During the day they attended seminars and took part in Maths workshops alongside other students from Nottinghamshire<br />
schools. Topics covered were Algebra, Number and Pythagoras along with a workshop on Common Misconceptions in<br />
Mathematics. <strong>The</strong>re was also a lecture on exam and revision techniques and effective use of time.<br />
UKMT<br />
Maths Challenge Update<br />
Following on from his excellent performance in the<br />
UK Intermediate Maths Challenge in February,<br />
Thomas Machin was invited to take part in the<br />
Intermediate Kangaroo Maths Challenge. An<br />
extension to the UK Maths Challenge, this is a<br />
paper which is taken by students in over thirty<br />
countries worldwide. Thomas achieved a score of<br />
94, just missing out on a Merit award and the next<br />
stage of the competition by one mark.
