The company Sorst Streckmetall has been producing
expanded metal in Hanover since 1921 and is
one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of
expanded metals and perforated metals in Europe.
Since 2006, the company has belonged to the American
Gibraltar Industries Group and commands production
facilities in England, Poland, Germany and
the USA.
As a medium-sized company we produce expanded
metal mesh for numerous fields of application. Our
products are employed worldwide.
We offer our customers from the fields of metal processing
and trading a broad spectrum of products.
Expanded metal, perforated metal or expedient
further processing; numerous stock items are immediately
available and can be despatched on the day
of ordering. If the required item is not available, we
can produce custom-made individual products. We
thereby offer our customers a proliferation of options
as regards material, dimensions and formats.

EXPANDED METAL MESH
Expanded metal mesh is a raw metal
sheet with apertures. It is produced
by cutting the metal whilst simultaneously
stretching and forming
it and is manufactured from plates
or bands. The meshes are neither
braided nor welded. Expanded metal
mesh can therefore be cut to size as
required without loss of cohesion.
FORMED FROM A SINGLE
PIECE OF METAL
Which means that there is nothing
to work loose, no fretting strands or
strained joins or welds. In contrast to
braided or woven products, expanded
metal mesh has no loss of cohesion
and does not unravel. Expanded metal
mesh is therefore the preferred
choice for applications where durability,
expansion and dimensional stability
are required from even the smallest
components.
MESH LENGTH (ML)
Measurement from knuckle centre to
knuckle centre in the direction of the
long diagonal.
MESH WIDTH (MB)
Measurement from knuckle upper
edge to knuckle upper edge in the direction
of the short diagonal.
STRAND WIDTH (SB)
Width of the remaining material between
the openings.
STRAND THICKNESS (SD)
Thickness of employed material.

PLANARITY
The expanded metal mesh sheets
are considered to be planar if, when
placed on a flat surface with the curvature
facing upwards, the greatest
distance between the sheet and the
flat surface does not exceed 20mm
(over a width of 1000mm). In the case
of heat-resistant sheets a distance of
40mm is allowed.
CURVATURE
The expanded metal mesh sheets are
considered to be straight along the
longitudinal edge if the curvature
midpoint of a sheet with a metal
thickness of up to 3mm shows a deviation
of not more than 1.5% of the
length of the straight line. For sheets
with a thickness of 3mm or more the
deviance may not exceed 2% of the
length of the straight line
TYPES OF CUT
When cutting the expanded metal
mesh to shape, it is important to
consider the particular specifications
of the cut type (symmetrical
with open or closed mesh).
The types of cut are differentiated
as follows:
Bs. Lo
(Width symmetrical, length open)
Bg.Lo
(Width closed, length open)
Mesh is closed in the width.
BLg
(Width and length closed)
The mesh is closed in the width and
in the length.
BLo
(Width and length open)
Width and length can be cut to shape
as required irrespective of the mesh
symmetry.
BsLg
(Width symmetrical, length closed)
FLAT ROLLING
Expanded metal mesh can be flatrolled
and deployed in the same way
as perforated metal plate.

Through calendaring the expanded
metal mesh can be rolled to a particular
mesh thickness in accordance
with the customer’s requirements.

Expanded metal mesh can be pleated
to form a so-called labyrinth mesh.
TYPES OF MATERIAL
Any ductile material can be employed
for the production of expanded metal
mesh. Generally, sheets from steel,
sendzimir steel, aluminium and nonferrous
metals are used.
TYPES OF DELIVERY
Delivery is effected in flat sheets. If
required, the sheets can be rolled together,
if technically feasible. The packaging
costs are calculated at cost
price. Costs for returned goods are
not included in the price.

Powder Coating
• Surface coating with powder lacquer
• A wide range of gloss and matt colour shades
are available for interior and exterior applications.
• We also offer corrosion-resistant powder
coating.
• Powder Coatiin „softens“ the surface and reduces
the risk of injury.

Anodising
• In the case of aluminium, anodic oxidation
forms a lustrous, coloured protective layer of
aluminium oxide in the upper surface of the
metal.
• We recommend that gloves are worn during
the subsequent processing.
• The surface is particularly easily scratched.
Hot-Dip galvanising
• This form of surface treatment is utilised in
order to achieve good corrosion protection
with steel.
• We recommend a subsequent powder coating
in order to retain a high-grade décor.
• Galvanisation of expanded metal can result in
distortion and material stress. In the case of
structures with frames, we recommend that
the elements are galvanised individually.
• We recommend galvanisation from mesh dimensions
of 28x12 mm upwards.
