Of that email-borne malware, 23 percent of it contained URLs that pointed to malicious websites. This is also down from 2011, where 39 percent of email-borne malware contained a link to a malicious website. Much like the drop in spam and phishing rates, a drop in emails that contain viruses does not necessarily mean that attackers have stopped targeting users. Rather, it more likely points to a shift in tactics, targeting other online activities, such as social networking.
