Some 70 local Luxembourgers attended for an afternoon of food and wine. Two videotapes depicting business opportunities and life styles in the Grand-Duchy were shown continuously, attracting much attention and approval. The American Film Institute "European Community Film Festival" was held for the first time this year in Los Angeles. The Luxembourg entry "Gwyncilla, Legend of the Dark Ages" was shown to an appreciative audience, twice, on June 22. Producer Thiltges and director Kieffer were in the audience to answer questions on the filmmaking process. On the same day, the Consulates General of ten European Community nations represented in Los Angeles Luxembourg National Holiday In New York New York, June 23,1987. Consul General of Luxembourg and Mrs. Nicholas V. Didier gave a reception today to celebrate Luxembourg's National Holiday. It was held at the showroom of Villeroy & Boch in New York City at Madison Avenue and 26th Street. This location was quite a departure from previous settings. It afforded the guests a new view of New York City from the showroom windows on the 41st floor. As happens every year at the National Holiday celebrations, acquaintances were renewed and recent trips to Luxembourg were reminisced about. New Yorker Luxembourgians seem to be paying visits to the "Old Country" on every possible or feasible occasion. A buffet of special delicacies was provided, including salmon mousse, beef Stroganoff with rice, and Paschteitchen — a Luxembourgian specialty that might be described as a pate en croute. The wine offered was another Luxembourgian product together gave a reception in honor of the Festival. Attending were members of the press, Festival representatives, and various nationals. Mrs. Marie-Jose Deutsch, a scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, traveled with her family recently to Luxembourg where she delivered a paper on "Sequencing Challenges of the Voyager Spacecraft at Neptune" to the Association des Ingenieurs et Industriels, June 16. En route, Mrs. Deutsch spoke on the same subject before an interested audience in Washington D.C. Ann Iwach, M.A, also a member of the L.A. Luxembourg community, is a doctoral candidate in General Linguistics and Literature at the University of Southern California. Her research involves field work on the languages of Luxembourg. The display of Villeroy & Boch china and glassware exhibited in the showroom is spectacular. The dinner and breakfast sets come in a variety of designs ranging from traditional to modern. The "Vieux Luxembourg" collection — offwhite with tiny blue flower sprigs - is, it seems, a prize possession of many households of immigrants from Luxembourg and even of those of their U.S. - born families. Mr. Didier, greeting the guests, announced that the Luxembourg government had decided earlier this year to split up the functions of the Consul General in New York and that of its Permanent Representative to the United Nations — this in order to better serve Luxembourg's interests. He said that he is now Luxembourg's first full duty Consul-General in New York and that Ambassador Feyder is its first full-fledged Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
