JARGON
Spring is in the air and unless
things have drastically changed since I have written
this newsletter, Team 3 is the big winner of our
membership drive. Congratulations Team 3!
Welcome our new members: Todd
Bohnenkamp, Zach Dietrich, Elisabeth
Hageman, Marie Robinson, David Voigts, and
John Worthington.
Flag captains will be contacting you to assist
them with delivering flyers in the near future. Our
first flag event is Memorial Day. Please volunteer
to help. Also the nominating committee may be
contacting you to hold a leadership position. Self
nominations are also accepted (and appreciated).
Contact Carlin if you are interested.
The regional convention is in Aberdeen, SD.

APRIL PROGRAMS – Bill Smart
MAY PROGRAMS – Joe Alameo
WELCOME DAVID VOIGTS
David joins Sertoma as a direct result of
his daughter Emma, who is hearing impaired,
receiving a scholarship from Sertoma. As an adult
she suddenly in a few seconds lost what hearing
remained. She now hears with a cochlear implant
and is doing quite well. She and her husband are
both elementary school teachers and have two
children. (A son, Mark, and his wife are both
attorneys)
Now the rest of the story! David is from
the Tama area. He worked as an Ecologist for a
Florida Utility Company until retiring. In
retirement he moved back to this area and has
taught astronomy classes at Hawkeye and has
been involved with the Grout Museum
planetarium. These areas of interest are also his
hobbies. He is an avid bicyclist.

WELCOME
ELISABETH HAGEMAN
Elisabeth is not only Carlin’s wife, but the
Assistant Manager of the Piazza, UNI food
service. Those of us who attended the tour of UNI
Speech and Hearing Clinic at a meeting recently
were doing nothing but praising the food served at
the Piazza. Can we meet there more often????
Carlin says his wife reads a lot and loves spending
time with the grandkids. He’s really not sure what
else she does – guess we’ll have to ask her
.

BOARD ACTION and
BUSINESS MEETING
Flags were discussed and
flyers should begin being
delivered the beginning
of April. There will be
an option to donate an additional $5.00 to help send
care packages to military personnel stationed in
Iraq.
The Regional Convention is being helpd
May 6 th & 7 th in Aberdeen , South Dakota. Both
Carlin and Bob are planning to attend and be
delegates. They will be reimbursed for their
registration.
