Who are HAZAK’s 241 members? We
are committed to Temple Beth Sholom.
We are community activists, students, educators,
musicians, consultants and travelers.
More than a dozen are docents and
volunteers at Philadelphia cultural centers
including the National Museum of
American Jewish History, the Philadelphia
Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania
Academy of Fine Arts and the Philadelphia
Zoo (at the Big Cat exhibit). We serve as
presidents and leaders of Hadassah, commanders
of the Jewish War Veterans, leaders
at the Katz JCC and other community
groups. We participate in Bookmates, listen
to children read at Kellman Brown
Academy, hold infants at Virtua’s neonatal
unit, offer tax assistance to other seniors,
volunteer at local libraries and gift shops,
present “Art Goes to School” programs
and sing in choirs. We are active involved
citizens. What is your “real age” not your
chronological age?

Breakfast after the 7:00 am Friday Morning
Minyan Services. Start the day with friends
and smile all day.
April 20 at 5:45 pm: HAZAK members
are invited to a Carlebach Kabbalat. Join us
for hors d’oeuvres at “A Taste of Shabbat”
and a chance to visit. Then partake in a
wonderful service that begins at 6:15 pm.
April 22: “And you shall teach your
children.” Celebrate and toast Edward
Adleman, Rabbi Micah Peltz, and Sandy &
Jeff Brown at the TBS Tribute Dinner that
honors these special individuals.
April 24 at 1 pm: HAZAK on the Road
attends the JCC Film Festival, “Tony Curtis,
Driven to Stardom.”
April 29: Explore our Southern NJ
Jewish roots with Ruth Bogutz. Travel
with Hadassah and HAZAK as we discover
our history. Can you drive? We
plan to carpool. Watch for the flyer.

by award winning singer, songwriter,

Marvin Herring. Tickle your funny bone.

June 12: From Nashville to Israel to
SNJ…An afternoon of music with Cantor
Cohen accompanied by Larry Leipow. Visit
with friends while enjoying a delightful
musical performance.
June 14-19: NJY KISLAK Adult Retreat
in the Poconos. Betty from the Cherry
Hill Bridge Club will offer bridge lessons
and tournament skills. There will also be
exercise classes, sports, lectures, great
food and round trip transportation all for

Lunch and Learn Siddur:
Kabbalistic Prayer
“Kabbalistic Prayer – Mystic Meditations
and Mantras in the Siddur” with Rabbis
Lindemann and Peltz and Cantor Cohen.
Jewish mysticism has had a significant
influence on the Siddur from the very
beginning. Many of the prayers with
which you are quite familiar have sources
in Kabbalah, from Kabbalat Shabbat to
Ein Keloheinu. This class will provide
plenty of spiritual food for thought. You
bring the lunch and we’ll bring the learn.

Tuesday Night Talmud: Masekhet
Horayot with Rabbi Lindemann
Horayot – Rulings – is one of the smallest
tractates of the Talmud. What happens
when courts or religious authorities err in
their rulings on matters of Jewish law and
practice? Who is responsible? What are
the relative rights and obligations of
courts, rulers and individuals? When it
comes to rights and privileges, is there an
order of precedence among economic
and social groups or individuals? In addition
to dealing with these matters, there
are stories and legends about the Ark,
Manna, Aaron’s staff and various Biblical
characters. As always, our study will consider
the text from a variety of perspectives:
legal, historical, literary and
religious.
