4T Lakewood Ranch Herald supplement AROUND THE RANCH
Wednesday, May 18, 2011
The annual spring trip to
Atlanta (actually Suwanee)
hascomeandgonetooquickly.
Everything in central Georgia
was in full bloom, which
always makes for a beautiful
visit. Of course, seeing our
son Carson and his family
is a beautiful event on its
own. He and his wife Elizabeth
are the proud parents
of our gorgeous grandsons
Caden (who celebrated his
fifth birthday while we were
there) and 11-month-old Garrett
who waves, says “byebye,”
and blows great big
kisses. It was a great weekend
filled with picture-taking,
“read one more story
book,” “Grandpa, race cars
with me,” making craft projects,
tons of hugs and kisses,
and not enough time to
do more.
Returning home brought us
back to the day-to-day, which
now consists of taking care
of things around the homestead.We’ve
been here nearly
eight years and are tackling
the list of up-keep items—getting
the house repainted, the
pool deck resurfaced, adding
the long-discussed cabinets
in the laundry room,
updating some room lighting,
and on and on. This
is the fifth house we have
owned, so we came to realize
a long time ago that new
houses don’t remain “new”
for too long. Most times, in
the past, when it came time
for a major spruce-up we’d
get orders from the U.S. Air
Force transferring us to another
location, so we’d sell
the house and move. But I
don’t plan to ever again look
at another moving van, so
there is no getting around
this growing list.
Our hearts and prayers go
Eddie is being treated
Eddie’s three siblings are being
Whoare these eight goodlooking
local eateries? They’re calling
themselves the ROME-
TheRotary Club of Lakewood
Ranch recently celebrated
its 10th anniversary
at a luncheon meeting at
the Lakewood Ranch Golf
and Country Club. Part of
the celebration included a
slideshow highlighting the
organization’s history and
several of its major accomplishments,
including the formation
of ShelterBox USA
and the success of the annual
Suncoast Food and Wine
Fest. ShelterBox USA is the
American arm of an internationalhumanitarianprogram
Members of this club are
also directly involved in numerous
community organizations.
It is one of the great
Rotary Clubs of the area; my
