NORDFJORD FOR ChiLDREN<br />

Going on holiday with children? In Nordfjord you will<br />

find many offers that are suitable for families. Bring the<br />

kids and let them explore nature through exciting activities.<br />

Here is some examples for inspiration.<br />

Experience the glaciers – the Briksdalsbreen glacier is a popular<br />

destination, and there is a lovely walk up the three-kilometrelong<br />

gravel road to the glacier past exciting potholes and grazing<br />

animals. Maybe you would enjoy an exciting drive up in the small,<br />

open ‘Troll’ cars? There are lovely walks for families up to the<br />

Bødalsbreen and Kjenndalsbreen glaciers in Lodalen – you can<br />

easily push a pram on the good path in Kjenndalen valley.<br />

Glacier safari on the Briksdalsbreen glacier<br />

We paddle big inflatable boats between the lumps of ice floating<br />

in the water, enabling you to experience the Briksdalsbreen<br />

glacier up close. A great experience for the whole family. Minimum<br />

age of participants: four years. Safety equipment is included.<br />

Glacier walks<br />

Experience the Bødalsbreen or the Brenndalsbreen glacier up<br />

close. Try something completely new and exciting. Take your<br />

mother and father on a unique experience on the glacier. All<br />

safety equipment is included. Minimum age of participants: eight<br />

years.<br />

Via Ferrata<br />

A lofty experience on a safe climbing route from Loen to the summit<br />

of Mount Hoven (1,010 m). Minimum age: 12 years.<br />

Riding Fjord horses<br />

Every summer, Norsk Fjordhestsenter at Nordfjordeid offers horse<br />

riding trips in the mountains, one-hour and two-hour riding trips,<br />

half -day or day trips. Horse riding camps for young people.<br />

Stryn Summer Ski Centre<br />

How about a skiing trip in the middle of summer? Stryn Summer<br />

Ski Centre is the best known summer ski centre in Northern<br />

Europe, with great conditions throughout the summer. Here, you<br />

can try snowboarding, alpine, telemark or cross-country skiing!<br />

Open from May to July.<br />

Harpefossen Skicentre<br />

Harpefossen is also a good starting point for cycling trips on a<br />

varied network of roads and paths. A great 8-km circular route<br />

that passes four summer pasture farms. You can also cycle<br />

the old Post Road in idyllic surroundings from Harpefossen to<br />

Bjørkedalen and back, a total distance of 20 km. Season from May<br />

to October. www.harpefossen.no<br />

Tenpin bowling in Vågsøy<br />

Here, you can celebrate birthdays, have something to eat and<br />

drink, bowl, play pool and other fun activities.<br />

Indoor and outdoor swimming<br />

There are beautiful white sandy beaches along the coast of<br />

Nordfjord. Take a bucket and spade with you and explore the<br />

following sandy beaches in Selje: Seljesanden, Ervik, Hoddevik or<br />

Refviksanden in Vågsøy. There are also great spots for swimming<br />

along the fjord. Alexandra Bad & Spa and Selje Spa Thalasso have<br />

swimming pools and outdoor jacuzzis. Gloppen Camping and<br />

Byrkjelo Camping have heated outdoor pools with a sun terrace<br />

and play area. Some of the public swimming pools are also open<br />

in summer.<br />

Enclosed ball courts, playgrounds, sand volleyball courts and mini<br />

golf can be found in the various municipalities in Nordfjord, often<br />

in the vicinity of schools.<br />

Stryn Skatepark<br />

There is a skateboard park and great football pitches at Stryn<br />

Stadium.<br />

Walking trips<br />

Many child-friendly walking trips and cultural trails in Nordfjord,<br />

contact Tourist Information for more information and tips.<br />

Cinema<br />

If it is bucketing down, it might be nice to stay indoors and watch<br />

a film. Ask at the Tourist Information Office or look for posters.<br />
