RICK COE
DEPUTY ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Rick Coe begins his fifth year as UAlbany's
deputy director of athletics. He
previously served as associate director
of athletics since 2002.
Coe, who has also served in the role of
University liaison with regard to New York
Giants training camp, manages athletic
business operations. He also has administrative oversight for
various sports programs and has been a key planner in the
master plan for the athletic and recreational complex and the
turf fields project. John Fallon Field (lacrosse) and Alumni Turf
Field (field hockey) have been built under his direction along
with the renovation of SECFU Arena's basketball and indoor
track surfaces.
A native of New Cumberland, W.Va., Coe was an independent
consultant in the financial planning and insurance industry prior
to joining the UAlbany staff. He administered all business and
fiscal affairs and served as chief financial officer for American
University's department of athletics from 1989-2000. He was
also a member of the NCAA self-study steering committee.
Coe received his M.S. in physical education with emphasis in
athletic administration from Western Illinois University in 1984.
He has a B.S. in business administration with an accounting
specialization from West Liberty State College in West Virginia.
Coe and his wife, Mary, have three children, Lindsay, Rachael
and Michael.
CHARLIE VOELKER
ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Charlie Voelker is in his fifth year as
associate director of athletics for external
affairs. He came to the UAlbany athletic
department in the summer of 2003. He
directs the department's marketing and
corporate sales division, plus oversees
ticket operations and specific sports.
Voelker previously worked for two minor league baseball
organizations. He served as director of player personnel for
the Berkshire Black Bears, and was vice president and general
manager of the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs. He was named
Northern League General Manager of the Year twice.
A native of Garden City, N.Y., Voelker was a radio color
commentator and play-by-play announcer for UAlbany football
and basketball broadcasts from 1996-2002. He also worked
in the Capital Region as an account executive and commerical
producer for Time Warner Cable.
Voelker received his B.A. in rhetoric and communication
from the University at Albany in 1987. He has completed the
marketing and sales segment of the MBA program at The Sage
Colleges. Voelker and his wife, Kim, reside in Delmar. He has
one son, Andrew.
Paw Prints: University at Albany Vice President and Director
of Athletics Lee McElroy played his college football at UCLA for
the legendary Tommy Prothro. McElroy earned three varsity
letters as a linebacker from 1967-69. One of his teammates
was 1967 Heisman Trophy winner Gary Beban. In 2006-07,
McElroy served as president of the National Association of
Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
JAN BROWN
ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Jan Brown serves as associate athletics
director of student-life enrichment. Brown,
who joined the University at Albany staff
in the spring of 2005, oversees academic
support, enrichment, sports medicine,
compliance and campus affairs. She also
serves as the athletic department's senior
women's administrator.
Brown served as the NCAA's Director of Division II and
Governance Liaison to the Executive Committee and as Assistant
Chief of Staff for Division II for nearly six years prior to
her present appointment. In that position, she provided counsel,
advice and leadership to the main governing entities of Division
II intercollegiate athletics, the NCAA President and other NCAA
staff regarding current Division II issues and policies.
From 1994-99, Brown worked for the NCAA as an enforcement
representative. She investigated allegations of violations
of NCAA legislation committed by member institutions and
presented findings to the NCAA Committee on Infractions.
Brown received both a B.A. in economics and a M.A. in urban
and enviromental policy from Tufts University in Massachusetts,
where she competed in both track and field and soccer. She
went on to earn a Juris Doctorate degree from the College of
William & Mary's Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1992.
CARL ANDERSON
ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Carl Anderson has served as assistant
athletics director for student-life enrichment
since December 2005. Anderson, who
monitors the academic advising and life
skills programs for UAlbany's 440 studentathletes,
previously worked for more than
six years at New York University.
In that period, Anderson served as academic affairs advisor
and compliance coordinator for athletics. He was responsible
for the eligibility certification and academic progress of nearly
300 student-athletes. From 1997-99, Anderson worked at St.
Bonaventure University as the academic coordinator for studentathletes
in 14 sports.
Anderson received his B.S. in physical education from Slippery
Rock University and a M.S. in athletic administration from
Florida State University. He worked extensively as a both a
graduate assistant and intern in the school's student-athlete
academic support department. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa.,
Anderson and his wife, Jennifer, have two children.
JENNIFER SVATIK
DIRECTOR, SUPPORT SERVICES
Jennifer Svatik is in her fifth year as
UAlbany's director of student-athlete support
services. She works with academic
advising as well as the school's Student-
Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Svatik previously served as an intern in
the University of Hartford's athletic department.
She had duties with the director of ticket operations and
director of event management. From 2003-04, Svatik worked
with the University of Virginia's CHAMPS/Life-Skills Program. A
native of Stratford, Conn., Svatik graduated magna cum laude
with a B.A. in psychology from Springfield College and has a
master's degree in sport and exercise psychology from Virginia.
