RICK COE<br />
DEPUTY ATHLETIC DIRECTOR<br />
Rick Coe begins his fifth year as UAlbany's<br />
deputy director of athletics. He<br />
previously served as associate director<br />
of athletics since 2002.<br />
Coe, who has also served in the role of<br />
University liaison with regard to New York<br />
Giants training camp, manages athletic<br />
business operations. He also has administrative oversight for<br />
various sports programs and has been a key planner in the<br />
master plan for the athletic and recreational <strong>com</strong>plex and the<br />
turf fields project. John Fallon Field (lacrosse) and Alumni Turf<br />
Field (field hockey) have been built under his direction along<br />
with the renovation of SECFU Arena's basketball and indoor<br />
track surfaces.<br />
A native of New Cumberland, W.Va., Coe was an independent<br />
consultant in the financial planning and insurance industry prior<br />
to joining the UAlbany staff. He administered all business and<br />
fiscal affairs and served as chief financial officer for American<br />
University's department of athletics from 1989-2000. He was<br />
also a member of the NCAA self-study steering <strong>com</strong>mittee.<br />
Coe received his M.S. in physical education with emphasis in<br />
athletic administration from Western Illinois University in 1984.<br />
He has a B.S. in business administration with an accounting<br />
specialization from West Liberty State College in West Virginia.<br />
Coe and his wife, Mary, have three children, Lindsay, Rachael<br />
and Michael.<br />
CHARLIE VOELKER<br />
ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR<br />
Charlie Voelker is in his fifth year as<br />
associate director of athletics for external<br />
affairs. He came to the UAlbany athletic<br />
department in the summer of 2003. He<br />
directs the department's marketing and<br />
corporate sales division, plus oversees<br />
ticket operations and specific sports.<br />
Voelker previously worked for two minor league baseball<br />
organizations. He served as director of player personnel for<br />
the Berkshire Black Bears, and was vice president and general<br />
manager of the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs. He was named<br />
Northern League General Manager of the Year twice.<br />
A native of Garden City, N.Y., Voelker was a radio color<br />
<strong>com</strong>mentator and play-by-play announcer for UAlbany football<br />
and basketball broadcasts from 1996-2002. He also worked<br />
in the Capital Region as an account executive and <strong>com</strong>merical<br />
producer for Time Warner Cable.<br />
Voelker received his B.A. in rhetoric and <strong>com</strong>munication<br />
from the University at Albany in 1987. He has <strong>com</strong>pleted the<br />
marketing and sales segment of the MBA program at The Sage<br />
Colleges. Voelker and his wife, Kim, reside in Delmar. He has<br />
one son, Andrew.<br />
Paw Prints: University at Albany Vice President and Director<br />
of Athletics Lee McElroy played his college football at UCLA for<br />
the legendary Tommy Prothro. McElroy earned three varsity<br />
letters as a linebacker from 1967-69. One of his teammates<br />
was 1967 Heisman Trophy winner Gary Beban. In 2006-07,<br />
McElroy served as president of the National Association of<br />
Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).<br />
JAN BROWN<br />
ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR<br />
Jan Brown serves as associate athletics<br />
director of student-life enrichment. Brown,<br />
who joined the University at Albany staff<br />
in the spring of 2005, oversees academic<br />
support, enrichment, sports medicine,<br />
<strong>com</strong>pliance and campus affairs. She also<br />
serves as the athletic department's senior<br />
women's administrator.<br />
Brown served as the NCAA's Director of Division II and<br />
Governance Liaison to the Executive Committee and as Assistant<br />
Chief of Staff for Division II for nearly six years prior to<br />
her present appointment. In that position, she provided counsel,<br />
advice and leadership to the main governing entities of Division<br />
II intercollegiate athletics, the NCAA President and other NCAA<br />
staff regarding current Division II issues and policies.<br />
From 1994-99, Brown worked for the NCAA as an enforcement<br />
representative. She investigated allegations of violations<br />
of NCAA legislation <strong>com</strong>mitted by member institutions and<br />
presented findings to the NCAA Committee on Infractions.<br />
Brown received both a B.A. in economics and a M.A. in urban<br />
and enviromental policy from Tufts University in Massachusetts,<br />
where she <strong>com</strong>peted in both track and field and soccer. She<br />
went on to earn a Juris Doctorate degree from the College of<br />
William & Mary's Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1992.<br />
CARL ANDERSON<br />
ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR<br />
Carl Anderson has served as assistant<br />
athletics director for student-life enrichment<br />
since December 2005. Anderson, who<br />
monitors the academic advising and life<br />
skills programs for UAlbany's 440 studentathletes,<br />
previously worked for more than<br />
six years at New York University.<br />
In that period, Anderson served as academic affairs advisor<br />
and <strong>com</strong>pliance coordinator for athletics. He was responsible<br />
for the eligibility certification and academic progress of nearly<br />
300 student-athletes. From 1997-99, Anderson worked at St.<br />
Bonaventure University as the academic coordinator for studentathletes<br />
in 14 sports.<br />
Anderson received his B.S. in physical education from Slippery<br />
Rock University and a M.S. in athletic administration from<br />
Florida State University. He worked extensively as a both a<br />
graduate assistant and intern in the school's student-athlete<br />
academic support department. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa.,<br />
Anderson and his wife, Jennifer, have two children.<br />
JENNIFER SVATIK<br />
DIRECTOR, SUPPORT SERVICES<br />
Jennifer Svatik is in her fifth year as<br />
UAlbany's director of student-athlete support<br />
services. She works with academic<br />
advising as well as the school's Student-<br />
Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).<br />
Svatik previously served as an intern in<br />
the University of Hartford's athletic department.<br />
She had duties with the director of ticket operations and<br />
director of event management. From 2003-04, Svatik worked<br />
with the University of Virginia's CHAMPS/Life-Skills Program. A<br />
native of Stratford, Conn., Svatik graduated magna cum laude<br />
with a B.A. in psychology from Springfield College and has a<br />
master's degree in sport and exercise psychology from Virginia.<br />
