Great Dane Awards<br />
The University at Albany's Department of Athletics hosts the Great<br />
Dane Awards every May as a celebration of the current academic year's<br />
athletic achievements. The most valuable players on each of the 19<br />
intercollegiate teams for men and women are recognized, along with<br />
members of the UAlbany Athletic Director's and Athletic Academic<br />
Honor Rolls and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Featured<br />
award presentations include the Presidential Scholar-Athlete Awards<br />
and ECAC Merit Medal recipients.<br />
Baseball's Chris Ott, lacrosse's Renee Levitin and field hockey's<br />
Vanessa Walter received the 2008-09 Presidential Scholar-Athlete<br />
Awards as the senior male and female athletes with the highest cumulative<br />
grade point average. Soccer's Steward Ceus and field hockey's<br />
Ashley Ross were given ECAC Merit Medals which are awarded to the<br />
school's top senior male and female student-athletes who have shown<br />
classroom excellence and as <strong>com</strong>petitive athletes.<br />

UAlbany's <strong>2009</strong> senior class was recognized prior to the<br />
eighth annual Great Dane Awards, an annual celebration of<br />
the current academic year's athletic achievements.<br />
The National Football League's New York Giants made the University at Albany<br />
their summer training camp home in March 1996. UAlbany has played host to the<br />
second longest stint of any Giants' training camp. New York Giants training camp,<br />
which is averaging more than 32,000 fans per year, begins in July and continues for<br />
a four-week period. The camp attendance record of 45,040 was established in 2004.<br />
