where students pursue their own research interests while working closely
with renowned faculty in world-class facilities on two continents.
The NUS-Imperial College Joint PhD programme
will provide graduate researchers the opportunity
to collaborate in depth with researchers
in another country, to benefit from exposure to
their culture, to build strong friendships and
networks, and to receive a prestigious degree
jointly awarded by two leading global universities

About the programme
The Imperial-NUS Joint PhD Degree is an award
conferred by both institutions, which allows
PhD students to spend half of their time at each
institution. This degree is particularly aimed at
those that want a comparative degree or whose
research would benefit from the expertise of the
two academic research groups whether they are
working in complementary areas or whether they
want to gain an interdisciplinary element.
This programme is offered across the various
disciplines that each institution offers, and is a
great way of taking research forward on an
international level.
Imperial owns one of the largest
estates in the UK university sector,
equivalent in size to 133 football
pitches. This estate includes cutting
edge research facilities, industrystandard
equipment and top
teaching environments, including
labs, workshops and smaller
workrooms for individual or small
group study.

A leading English-speaking global university
centred in Asia, the National University of
Singapore (NUS) offers a global approach to
education and research, with a focus on Asian
perspectives and expertise. Its 14 faculties
and schools across three campus locations in
Singapore provide a broad-based education which
is rigorous and flexible.
Application can be completed
through either university.
However, students will be
enrolled in and have full access
to facilities at both institutions.
Students will need to meet the
requirements of both institutions
at both the application and
examination stages, including a
joint viva.
The programme will normally
take three or four years and
will include transferable skills
training. Time will normally be
equally shared between each
institution.
